Well... You do realize that Mulan and Pocahontas from Disney were also done in a similar way, right? You can also count Hercules if you believe in Greek Mythology (hey, some people still believe in the Greek Gods). I'm not attacking you, I'm just pointing that out. Also, don't try to say that this movie is accurate, because it's not. As much as I adore Anastasia, the real Anastasia was confirmed dead from what I've heard.

@@yuzukistardust87075 Her body was only recovered in 2007 so its inappropriate to make merchandise from soomeone who was just confirmed dead pretty recently while meking her identity a caricature that can easily be misenterpreted those who don't know the real story. Just because it was done to Pocahontas and Mulan years ago doesn't mean it should be done to another person again just for disney to get more publicity and make more money.

By the time this movie was released Anastasia's body and fate was not discovered yet. About a decade later her body was found with her younger brother meaning she suffered the same fate as her immediate family.

Actually, the body found along with Alexei was the body of MARIA, not Anastasia’s. There was an unidentified body found along with the Romanov family (Czar Nicholas, Czarina Alexandra, Olga & Tatiana) that was discovered back in the 1970s, but many were unsure if this unidentified body was that of Maria or Anastasia’s. Not until 2007 came and it was confirmed that the body along side with Alexei was the body of Maria, so coming with the conclusion that the unidentified body was ANASTASIA all along.

“THE RUSSIAN CIRCUS - I THINK IT’S STILL IN HERE!” killed me when I was 7 and still kills me now 🤣🤣🤣

*fan fact:* Anastasia's "fake" name 'Anya' actually means _dementia_ in Greek. I think it's really smart that they gave her that name because she does have dementia, she remembers nothing about her past and who she is up until a certain point because of her head injury. As a Greek person watching this when i was a kid i was able to pick up on it and i liked it lmao, but i figured most people might not be aware of that fact cuz they don't speak the language so i thought i'd share:)

@Diesel patches Is my Dad oh yeah, you're right on that one, Anastasia herself didn't have dementia. she did suffer from memory loss though, and that's the connection i tried to make. i don't think the creators cared particularly about the actual scientific effects each illness has on the person, but more about the creative part of the name they gave their character that suffered from memory loss. they probably just wanted her new given name to have some short of meaning that represented the person she had to become after loosing her family and her identity overall. that's why Anya fits her and her condition so well. not so much on the actual accurate medical symptoms of what she suffered from, but on the symbolism of it. afterall, Anastasia's memory loss was never actually addressed or given the name of an actual condition people have irl. i can only guess that's the main reason why.

Coincidentally on purpose, I guess? It's unknown whether she would know her name is actually Anastasia or not, since she didn't know whether she had any Russian blood and not even her last name. But a lot of Russians (most of them) have nicknames since they say their names are pretty long, so almost all Anastasias are known by their nickname Anya, or Stacy like the one I know. Maybe she was called Anya and that's all she knew.

Anya is a diminutive of Anna in Russian. Anna Anderson was the changed name of the woman most known for claiming to be Anastasia and a lot of story beats in a lot of Anastasia movies come from her own story. My guess is that the name choice comes from this. It (Anna and therefore Anya) seems like a likely choice for an orphanage (especially in Soviet times) to give a nameless orphan. It's short, it's simple, it's functional. Nastya is a diminutive of Anastasia (Ah-nah-stah-/see/-ya) in Russian. Nastenka is another (sweeter) one. In the Russian dub, Rasputin actually refers to her as Nastya during In the Dark of the Night.

This is why I loved her so much when I was little. She went on adventures and looked out for herself. Her destiny was in her own hands and she dealt with trauma and loneliness, an uncertain future. Anya was real

It’s almost a shame this movie is actually owned by Disney now, because though it’s always been Disney-esque there’s a kind of grunge to it that you won’t find in most of the Disney Princess movies, and that grunge showed through in her character as well; it gave the movie a personality it wouldn’t have had under Disney. The movies that came closest-I think-are Atlantis and, even more so, Treasure Planet (and not just because Dimitri looks like kinda like Milo and especially Jim Hawkins).

I can not express you all how much this movie means to me. I was OBSESSED with it as a kid. I would watch it at least once, every single week, and I would force my whole family to watch and enjoy it with me. I memorized songs, dialogues and even the backgrounds and character designs, I even taught some friends the songs! And they would ask me trivia questions about the real Romanov family. I'm 21 and I still enjoy playing my old VHS copy of this movie. Anya's personality and her relationship with Dimitri have stayed with me and influenced the woman I am today. This movie is a real treasure, I love it way too much.

I never watched the movie in english because the swedish dub is so nostalgic for me but maaaan did I miss out on some top-notch-sass. When she calls him a vulture, in swedish she only makes a remark on how it is rude to stare at people.....XD

I guess it's that the person who created this masterpiece wanted to be separate from disney,have their own identity. So for her to be a part of the very thing that she was suppose to rebel is..kinda sad. Like trying to get out of the grips of a tyrant giant. Personally i feel like she shouldn't be a disney princess. It feels like people think she's a good princess so she HAS to be a part of disney like as if disney princesses are the best of all. I want another selection of princesses to pick from. I'm tired of having to pick one from the same company. I want to find new princesses to enjoy that isn't a part of disney.
