Dimitri being charming for 5 mins

You know, the more I watch Anastasia, the more I see hints throughout the movie. I mean, just look at the thumbnail XD. I had to stop wheezing at 1 am. Anyways, enjoy!

That bugged THE HELL out of me! For me, the heart and soul of the movie centers on the fact that Dimitri risked his life to save Anya (and Marie). It's THE most compelling factor of their eventual romance, and it demonstrates Dimitri's true selfless and caring nature even at such a young age. I'm not sure why they decided to leave that aspect of his character out of the musical, but it was a mistake. It felt like a major emotional element of the narrative was missing. The movie packs a punch when it comes to emotional depth, but the musical was sorely lacking in that department imo.

After watching this and other Disney films (yes I'm aware that this was not a Disney film), is it wrong for me to want to _literally_ save the life of a girl? (like a princess or something, she doesn't literally have to be a princess) But like, you know, fulfill this fantasy of mine being "The Dashing Prince" and saving her? Like for real, I blame watching all of the original Disney Classics as a child. But... idk, someone tell me. Is it really that wrong? I mean come on. It doesn't seem so bad, if not a little childish. _looks down and kicks the ground_ Yeah it's a bit embarrassing to say, but I mean this is the internet. Had to at least put it out there. I have to believe at least _some_ girl wouldn't mind this. Don't have to literally save her life either, but even just from a bad situation. v.v Annnnd now I'm embarrassed. I'll show myself out.. @Jaclyn Brubaker You think so? :1 I mean I'm no hero, but if I had to fill that role, absolutely I would. I studied a couple different martial arts over almost a 10-year period. I've met and sparred with many women, young and old. So I certainly do not think all women are weak, I'm not of that mindset at all. But if she needs help, like I mean _really_ needs it, I'll be there. I don't even have to know her. Chances are I probably wouldn't. v.v I don't know any girl (doubt I'll end up as lucky as Dmitri). I certainly don't know any Anastasias sadly ha. :1 But whether I would need to put up my fists, or even just be a light in a moment of despair, I'd do it. I'd be there. I don't know her, and chances are she wouldn't know me. But I'd do whatever I could, if I but had the chance... Still sounds silly when I think about it. v.v

*fan fact:* Anastasia's "fake" name 'Anya' actually means _dementia_ in Greek. I think it's really smart that they gave her that name because she does have dementia, she remembers nothing about her past and who she is up until a certain point because of her head injury. As a Greek person watching this when i was a kid i was able to pick up on it and i liked it lmao, but i figured most people might not be aware of that fact cuz they don't speak the language so i thought i'd share:)

I think this is just a ridiculous coincidence. Because Anastasia, the daughter of Nicholas II, was a real person and was shot with her family. And the rest of the story of the cartoon was invented from the legend that the princess is alive. After her death, about 30 women declared themselves “the miraculously escaped Grand Duchess,” but sooner or later all were exposed as impostors. (How do I know? I'm from Russia.)

  • @danaeclean1328

@@user-gv7ov7jk6k i know this is based on the real story of Anastasia, but there are major differences between the real one and the cartoon version. I'm strictly referring to this animated version of Anastasia, that was given the nickname Anya by the people in her orphanage or something. That didn't happen to the actual Anastasia, because like you said, she died. But the creators and writers of the movie decided to have Anastasia lose her memory bc of a head injury and then proceeded to give her the name "Anya" which means dementia in Greek. I highly doubt this to be a coincidence. I think the writers were just being smart and played with the meaning of the word. But this has nothing to do with the actual Anastasia whatsoever, I wasn't talking about her to begin with.

“[At first, Bluth drew Dimitri as] the ideal Sears Roebuck catalog look, with the perfect face, nose, and cheekbones. Then Bill Mechanic came into play; because I drew so many Dimitris, I grew weary of him. He said, ‘Let’s make a guy that’s not very good-looking, just an everyday guy.’ So we broke his nose a little bit, and took his hair and let it hang down any old way, so it gets kind of messy. The first Dimitri’s were also a little beefy. Bill said, ‘No. No muscles on the guy. Let’s keep him pretty ordinary.’ So we took all the muscle off him. What he has to do is function with his brain. And, oddly enough, judging by the reactions at the previews, by taking off all those sexual kinds of physical affectations we created a very sexy guy. Which I don’t quite get”- Don Bluth You don't have to get it, Don. Just accept our appreciation.

2:58 I love this so much because he clearly had a crush on her when they were little (there is a scene that I think isn’t in here where he gazes at her longingly back then) and he saved her life by helping her escape. Once he gets older, I think he longs for her because obviously he would want to see his love from childhood, but felt like it was hopeless. His singing at 2:58 just shows how much he really did miss the princess and yearn for her by saying “yes princess I found you AT LAST.” The childish nostalgic feeling the song has symbolizes the return of his hope (that is flickered out moments later when he realizes that just like back then he won’t have a place in her life 😭).
