Anton

Фильм және анимация

In our latest #MyFilmStory we meet Anton Ivanov, a film photographer who's love of analogue extends to his day job at Art of Foto, a gallery, large format photography studio and darkroom in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
Outside of the gallery we discover Anton's passion for climbing and how and why he tackles some of the world's biggest peaks with his Walker Titan 5x7" film camera and ILFORD black & white film.
In the 2nd half of this film we follow Anton into the remote Khane Valley, Karakorum in Pakistan where he and a team of Russian climbers make the first ever ascent of the newly named, 6,080m ILFORD peak (Hasho Peak II) in July 2019! (alpfederation.ru/news/1062/)

We were really excited when Anton contacted us about this project. What he does is extreme and we have to admire his dedication and passion to black and white film photography. There are not many people who will carry a large format camera up a mountain. Getting the peak named ILFORD Peak was also amazing!

So I keep watching this over & over for two reasons: 1) I took my first expedition cruise last month and I witnessed amazing glaciers in the Chilean fjords; our planet is so fragile and I'm inspired to do another expedition; and, 2) I love the imagery Anton captured. I am a documentary photographer and I think my images capture something special....but Anton's images are dreamlike, coupled w the the extent to which he goes to make each picture. I am about to hit the darkroom to print a series of pictures I made in NY City on the topic of sexuality; I walked into the darkroom, which is in my home, and chuckled that the images I will be printing were made during a weekend after taking a cab to a New Your City burrow; Anton's were taken after climbing amazing mountains. No comparison.
