ANTIQUE Hit Miss Engine RECOVERY? RESCUE? RESURRECTION?
Ғылым және технология
Hey all, its that time of year again for me to get ready for our local farm show. This year I wanted to dig out one of our engines that hasn't been out for many moons. Can I get it out in time? Does it even still run? Watch the video and find out!!!

you are very fortunate to be able to work along side of your father
What a thing of beauty, love listening to the sound of these oil girls.

As do I!
I had a 6hp Alamo built in 1919 for several years. Loved to hear it run!
Great job. Thank you 😊
You are amaizing how you look at an engine and figure out right away what the problem is and fix it.....Just a little spring and she's up and running!

I have lots and lots of time spent around these old engines. Might have picked up a thing or two 😆
By the air charge being sucked in you can tell that old girl has great exhaust sound. Usually the big gulps have big bangs!

These hit-n-miss engines were still in use in Wyoming's oil fields running pump jacks into the 1980's. They ran on well gas.

Once the engine is really warm you can switch to kerosene as kero has another ignition-temp compared to gasoline. Nice video. Really liked it.

Very observant to spot the slope was affecting the governor holding the exhaust open. Excellent, job getting the Witte out of the workshop. Interesting to see the steam engine work underway. Do your USA regulations mean that you will have to have a boiler test? great video.
I will see you at the show.

Hey there. Just found your channel. Very cool. A bit of a mystery to me yet. Question: could one of these engines run a generator for a light duty power source to supply a house?
They all have their own personalities don’t they ? LOL ! Nice engine, thanks for showing it .

lol .. one way to get the shop clean and organized
I had a Nova engine that was a small vertical cylinder until my stepdad had a clean-out of our shop and he sold it on me I think it was about 5 hp or less it used to run excellently it was a hit-and-miss
Kansas City, MO?!? I wonder where they were located
A front end alignment would be good.

im just wondering... why does it only seem to fire every 10th or 11th cycle?
Are you allowed to have a riveted boiler on the traction engine ? Some authorities insist on welded boilers now .
Your Dad's shop looks like mine!! Too much stuff and not enough Shop!! lol
This are the learning things for me ........a littel spring was the problem 😂. I learn a lot from your video's thank you. Greetings from the Netherlands

When your starting it r u pushing the exhaust valve down slightly to get rid of some of compression? We have a 4 ho and that old girl has a ton of compression i can barley turn it over any suggestions?
@Cast_Iron_Curiosities

I'm pushing down the intake valve to bypass the compression to get the piston to a position right before ignition. As you know, these engines have a ton of compression!

Mycket jobb! Hade det inte varit mindre jobb att skruva bort axlarna på motorn å dra ut den med två pallyftare?
the witte engine runs good 😊😊 U should paint the engine it would look alot better the paint color is dark green close 2 forest green there should be a paint no 4 it U will have 2 see U don't see many of those engines head type or headless I did see 1 many years ago I have no idea 💡😊 where that engine was from another fellow see the engine long and got at a show it ran very good 😊😊 OMG 11 3O 2O23

I'm a fan of keeping them original. I believe this engine has a good bit of paint left on it still. Just needs cleaned up. They are great running engines!
I've had several witte engines over the years. At 1 time I had 127 engines

@@Cast_Iron_Curiosities nothing more satisfying than taking a peice of rusted cast iron that not 1 thing turns and a few weeks it's a running and operating engine
do you find all your engines on auction? is facebook marketplace a decent place to find stuff like this?

Auctions, marketplace, and word of mouth are all ways I end up with my stuff.
I have one major question. When under a load, will these hit/miss engines maintain a constant RPM?
@steveayers1053
Ай бұрын
Yes they do. Instead of firing every few rotations, when they are under a load they fire on every rotation. This is what keeps the speed constant.
I am always shocked at how quiet these are compared to modern engines
lol...i have a big joe forklift too
I thought heated seats were a new invention.
I'd like to see at least one video on the Steam Engine.

I'm so jealous of your dad's shop I can shit myself. In fact, I think I did because my wife just gave me a look of questionably apprehension and disgust.
slowly but surely
So, let me get this straight: If i want my children to help me clean my workshop i have to bury some nice hardware in the far corner. Got it :-)
What year is it

wouldn't the steam from the hopper steam your rear-end if you sat on that seat ?🤣

One would think!
We found an old engine exactly like this one out in the woods near our house which used to be a very old farm. My father brought it up to the house to tinker with it and called it a: "one-lunger." This was over 60 years ago, so it wasn't old enough to be considered an "antique," but old enough to not be worth the effort to fix it up and running. It sat out behind the house until I left for college in 1971. What happened to it after that, I don't know, but it's great to see what it might have looked like in a rescued condition. Thanks!
You're the one that put the camera there! 🙄
what dynosaurs....!
Hit and miss...only at idle.
In order to get this out you need to be smarter than the person who designed it. COME ON MAN! THIS IS THE 20TH CENTURY!! Take the wheel off and use a roll jack to maneuver the thing!!!
I don't get what the release valve gizmo is doing every 8-9 cycles...wtf? Sounds like a COPD patient.
Carhartt has gone woke btw

KZread is blocking me for using an adblocker. Having all videos interrupted 2-3 times and not wishing to meet Ukranian women nor shop at Walmart is far too annoying. So I'll be unsubscribing to the 30-some channels I follow and finding other entertainment. Best of luck with your channel; I really enjoyed it.
