Antique Bassett Furniture Flip The worst piece I ever purchased
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I knew this piece would need a bit of work, the auction photos looked okay. Wow I was in for a surprise in all my years this is the worst piece I have ever started with. I put off working on this project for well over a year but in the end well just wait till you see it.

You are a hero, not giving up on the piece😊! You’re also a good teacher! And you save furniture. Personally, I love your accent! It makes me calm!
I love to see someone caring to give a second life to old furniture that most people would throw away, well done ! Great attention to details.

Its fun for me to look at how this piece started like you say does not look like the same piece. I love it
It looks AMAZING! I like your version of the piece better than the French looking patina it had before! Thanks so much for sharing

I just love how this piece ended up looking - the French country look is not a style I usually do but I did give it a chance to sell. I would have been happy not to go through all that stripping but it was well worth it.
I’m so glad that you rescue what a lot of other flippers pass by. This is stunning!

Thank you and that's so true. The bright piece you see in the background sold twice at auction before I picked it up both times the buyer took one look at it and refused to take it. I'm working on it right now and its going to be exceptional.
That is absolutely stunning! I love the work that you put into your projects, but I especially love your presentations. You’re a real professional.

Thank you so much! I spent so long putting off this project I knew it would it was going to be bad but when the paint stripper failed my heart just sank. Glad you like the video presentation its a lot of work but enjoyable and fun to share.
I like your choices. I agree with you in that sometimes we have to do what the piece needs. Plus, you were creative, and it turned out great!

You are so welcome! I cant believe how much this piece changed over that journey too i've re-watched this a few times my self.
Well that turned out amazing. My Grandma would call that a Gentlemen's Dresser, because of the valet box on top.
@RIA

It was the box on the top that drew me to this piece, I've always called it a glove box but valet box is interesting and makes sense to me too. No matter the name its a really nice feature.
A wonderful antique dresser restored beautifully. Great work.

I just found your channel. I really appreciate how you explain everything. Even up to the PPE you use. Nice piece!

Thank you, glad you found the channel. I never plan to go so in depth but it happens all the time might I just embrace it now.
It is not often that I am thoroughly impressed by someone regarding the intellectual importance of what they are presenting on KZread, you are that rare exception. The care that you give your projects and the knowledge that you convey to your viewers and your explanations is exceptional. I have several projects that I would like to work on. What I’ve learned from watching your videos will be invaluable. This dresser turned out so beautifully. All the extra effort and love for these historical pieces really shines through. Thank you.

Thank you so much that really means a lot to me. I am always happy to hear that people are learning from these videos things that they will able to put into their own pieces. Old pieces like this do take much more work but are so rewarding when they are done. I hope when you get into your projects and they go well and you get the same rewarding feeling I got with this piece.

I wish the pieces I will be working on were more historical antiques, however, they are mid-century modern from the 1950s. Good, solid wood pieces, that have a lot of storage (which I need), but lack the character and age that make my heart sing. (Although I do have a few of those pieces as well.) At this point I need to update the 1950s to a look that is more unique and hopefully with some added style with a twist. I may use your wallpaper technique on some pieces. Fortunately, I have a very meticulous nature, which should help when it comes to tedious work.
Wow! I discovered this video by googling Bassett Furniture because I just discovered that the founders of this company are my ancestors. The 3 Bassett bros. and thier brother in law started this company. They are my 6th cousins on my mom's side. You did a spectacular job restoring this antique gem! And I approve of using the dental tools as I am a dental hygienst😍 I used to have patients that would ask me for my old scalers so they could do projects like this. Very cool. Love it! Mahalo🤙=^..^=

That is wonderful to hear this is certainly an early Bassett piece it would be nice to think your ancestors played some role in the design of it. It was made to last and I have no doubt with a bit more care it would never fell into this condition. Thats funny about the dental tools I've used them for year nice to know I am not the only one.
So well thought out and executed beautifully. I know it was a lot of work but the birdseye maple is as you say stunning! That piece deserved the makeover and looks SO good - what a difference! Your choices were spot-on.

Thank you very much! With all the different paint colors this is probably the 5th makeover in 100ish years - I like to think this is the best its looked since it was new. Glad you enjoyed the process.
You’ve made that piece into an heirloom that hopefully will be treasured for generations.

Beautiful job. Love the birds eye maple. The patience and dedication to save this piece is very commendable. As you say, it is not one to flip for profit but what an end result! I need to replace the wooden casters on my grandmother's birds eye maple princess vanity( a wedding present from my grandfather in 1920) so thank you for the source.

You have to admit, the bird's eye maple was your reward for all that tedious stripping. Very nice result for an originally beautiful piece. I do love MCM, but am a sucker for the old stuff, too. Nice work for sure. And, you speak my mother-tongue, southern.

Beautiful. I just found your channel. I'll be binge watching your videos. 😊 What was the color that you chose for the paint?

The color is Tricorn black and you can have that mixed in the paint that you prefer to use. You can also make it into chalk paint with some calcium carbonate if you prefer it as a chalk paint.
