Anti Thatcher Protest at Funeral

Watch our coverage of the Margaret Thatcher death party, Uncensored contains swearing, over 18 only: • Anti Margaret Thatcher...
Protesters at Margaret Thatcher's funeral turn their backs on the coffin. We spoke to political activists, anarchists, police officers and even to Jon Snow. Many express their support and some are disrespectful and full of hate.
We are here in St Paul's trying to find out how do people feel about the fact that Margaret Thatcher getting a ceremonial funeral. Margaret Thatcher doesn't deserve 10 million pound spent on her. I think she deserves it. Where is all Margaret Thatcher's money? In the British Isles in a tax haven. She was a great Prime Minister so why not? Of course it's wrong isn't it? That's why I came to London to witness her funeral. Margaret Thatcher had a service yesterday for 150 friends and family doesn't need another great big one today. I think she was a very great leader. I think its absolutely disgusting. Mrs Thatcher saved this country there is no doubt whatsoever. She is the only Prime Minister in history whose actually made legislation against human rights. She was a very divisive figure I don't see why public money should be spent on the nearest thing to a state funeral. That woman is worth over 70 million and all their family is paying is 2 million towards the cost of this today. Quite incredible in her electoral success. I think it's disgusting. I think it's appropriate. I don't think the cost is excessive compared with what she saved us during her lifetime. Waste of money. She was a wonderful woman that's why I am here to pay my respects. I am disgusted that tax payer's money is being used for a state funeral for Margaret Thatcher its filthy. Margaret Thatcher did incredible things she changed the country beyond recognition. Booooo. Margaret Thatcher had millions stashed away in the virgin islands why could she have used that to pay for her own funeral. She freed this country we need her now in all sorts of countries. Her family should be paying for it. Pretty remarkable woman. Really pissed off that I am paying for it. We are expected to pay for this are we? Absolutely right couldn't be more appropriate. I think it's a disgrace that there is all this public money being spent to celebrate the life of somebody that destroyed people's lives then but her legacy lives on she is destroying people's lives now. We are here to rejoice that she is gone. Turn around boooo. She wasn't a feminist icon like people are trying to make out. If they told us the cost before the funeral there would be more protesters here. They should have protested when Margaret Thatcher was alive what is all this nonsense. Did Margaret thatcher believe in free speech? Yes. Then what are you doing? There is an anarchist behind you. The devil himself will turn his back on her. It really is a waste of money. I earned a lot of money out of her god bless her. I bet you didn't expect that. I have no respect for her none whatsoever. Its ridiculous they should just have a private funeral. It was paid with tax payers money that's what I heard and I don't really agree with that. She deserves a carrier bag bin liner in the grand union canal not all this bollocks. I am here simply to report what I have seen. So what have you seen in a nut shell? I have seen an ordered rather delightful charming crowd of interesting fellow citizens. The people who have put these barriers in place have done it wrong ad they are facing the wrong way so police officers would just have to move the barriers around to make them safer all right? Can you move back? Do you want to say please? I said please the first time. Can you say it again? I am not saying it again thank you.

What is most fascinating about humans is their inability to see evil. Even when it is staring them directly in the face. Whether mesmerized, desensitized or both, they choose not to see what is clearly in front of them. Throughout our human history there have been individuals who have walked this earth and commited terrible acts against their fellow humans. Some have been given great amounts of attention ,others far less. While some have had their crimes against humanity inexplicably and inexcusably justified. What these types all had in common was one thing. As individuals they were human and only just a person. But this factor, alone could never justify the horrors they caused to innocent people.

I find it quite funny actually. The people protesting against the funeral, and those who condemn what she did don't sound like they have an A level between them. That's probably why they have such a warped view of history, they are too thick to do any research to formulate their own opinions, so just repeat the bile that has been forced into their heads by their militant unionised parents. If people spent less time picketing funerals and more time working, then maybe this country wouldn't be in such a mess!

Tom Rose Don't bother trying to get reasoned thought into an argument with such people. Their minds are far too narrow for them to fit. The idea that anyone who doesn't have a job is worthless and that judging a person's intelligence by the amount of A-Levels they have, is really the extent of their mentality. They'll probably never realise the irony. No one was born simply to gain the approval of such a person, yet they think otherwise.

Tom Rose The north of England is still paying. Lets look at that statement. The unemployment rate is 7.4% for men and 3.5% for women. People don't have to crawl down a hole everyday to pull rocks out of the ground getting every illness under the sun because of it. The employment rate is now climbing, if the coal industry had not been closed when the mines ran dry miners would have been out of jobs anyway and left with no skills relevant in the modern world. People in the north of England will vote labour just because their parents did and their parents before them. It was not the Thatcher Government that spent all the money and didn't save while the economy was booming, Blair did that.

Is Hearsay Realsay? The fact of the matter, is the people that hate the Tories, are assumed to be staunch Labour supporters. While this is true of some of them, many are simply choosing the lesser of two evils. During the election, a very young person said to me that he wasn't voting, because he viewed it as nothing more than choosing which colour shit you're going to get thrown at you. I've yet to hear anything as concise and as accurate as that.

Successive governments were pouring huge amounts of taxpayers money into it just to artificially keep it going. The unions didn't want to compromise.

On one hand, she made Britain a great power again, stood up to Communism and defended the Falklands On the other, she callously destroyed entire communities and then publicly talked down to the victims. She also helped to create bitter divisions in society which persist to this day She will be remembered among our Top 10 PMs and she was an iconic leader But just as her haters should grow up, her sycophants should recognise the pain many of her policies caused

Think of the communities and lives of working people in the mining areas whose livelihood, career, everything they have trained for and all they know had been taken away from them by what was imposed by Thatcher. Those communicates are still suffering years on till this day with crime, unemployment, underdevelopment and poverty as the result of their main industry, their revenue, taken away.

Just what the country needs. Disrespecting a person's funeral. I wonder how many of these people protest when their taxpayer's money is spent funding international terrorism or when 100 billion pounds is spent on maintaining their nukes, but no they have to come out and protest when it's one of their PMs funeral. Whether or not one agrees with her politically one should have the common decency not to disrespect a funeral for the sake of their family and one's own damn grace and dignity. You have not achieved anything by disgracing the image of left wing, go and protest to something progressive and defend your ideas today instead of stalking a dead woman. If this is what left wing has come to... What's great about politics, and may I add democracy, is the fact that we can have a healthy debate on how to better run our country, not to compete in ruling the nation. It's this corrupting idea that we need to hate each other and disagree with whatever the other side stands for that holds us back and doesn't let us take the good arguments of both sides and leads us into dismissing every single progressive idea due to pure hatred. This is what leads us into a two party system, into a system where two extreme ends of each idea stand and you have to become extreme if you want someone representing you.

I know Protesters are full of joy when she died . But I'm tell you can anyone get a chance to prime minister . I mean if the state funeral wasn't worth it I bet even the government won't even come . Why is it so that she has to be hated badly to the worst. And if she is those bad people she would have thrown those protesters in bars back then as prime minister it's not about how much money was spent it's about giving her a proper state funeral at the first female minister . And if people really hate her why should you guys protest can you guys talk back about her among yourselves . Have you ever put yourselves into her shoes and see that one day when you die your kins are so joyful that you're finally dead well unless you are a villain

I think some people have misunderstood. I am fully for these protests against the funeral, Magaret Thatcher did not deserve the amount of money spent on her. I'm so sorry it's so harsh but my Great Grandfather died from a long and difficult battle with numerous cancers and too say that Thatcher deserved a 10 MILLION pound funeral is like saying my relatives are worth nothing. What bothers me even more though is that we call ourselves a democracy but what good is that if we don't get a say in these controversial decisions? I'm getting sick and tired of conservative fools like David Cameron patronising me and making me feel small and insignificant in my own country. I have masters degree for goodness sake.

It is important that you listen to the other argument because you are discussing a political issue in which you need to democratic, which you are not doing. you are being one viewed which makes you authoritarian, which doesn't work. also a child born in 2010 would be un able to spell, know about or present anything I put in my comment.

Minizip Sorry Minizip, had a look and I think you are around 13 or14, If I'd realised you were such a youngster, I wouldn't have been so harsh. But, She sent those blokes to the Falklands, to get killed. While her own son was lost in he Saharan desert getting lost, and had to send rescuers on tax payers money, to find him. She did away with the minimum wage, and about a week later, gave huge pay rises to top people, (judges etc), many of whom refused them. She sold off all our precious essential services, and got rid of manufacturing, - we had previously had rather a good reputation for it. We had just found N Sea oil, she flogged it off for 2pence. She caused Mad Cows Disease, by passing a bill that allowed farmers to feed their cows with dead sheep. She invested her own money in Australian Industry, which didn't show too much good confidence in her own policies. Oh. I could go on and on, basically she wrecked the country, and made the vast majority very unhappy, and we haven't come to the end of the effects she has had yet. She herself, ended up with a nice huge lump of dosh, which seems exceedingly unfair, and she could've paid for her own damned funeral. She was really a very, very, nasty woman. I really wished that she'd been killed in the bomb attack on her at Brighton.

Emily Woodman The two men you mentioned didn't have a cockney accent. More like South Essex (basildon/southend area) sounding ones than an actual london cockney accent. It's a noticeable difference in sound linguistically, and also to a large extent culturally too, if you're from the south east of England. They would have in thatcher's day been nouveau riche tories, although many of that demographic have in more recent years become the leading activists of economic policy within UKIP.

The got rich off of other's misery in essence, making them very different from working class londoners who have remained in town, or for that matter working class people form elsewhere in the country away from the commuter belt. That's why the two men liked thatcher.
