‘It’s just so uncomfortable’: US President Joe Biden and new UK PM’s ‘awkward moment’

Sky News Digital Presenter Gabriella Power has reacted to “one of the most awkward moments” between two leaders.
US President Joe Biden and new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held talks in the Oval Office.
Mr Starmer gave a delayed response to President Biden’s outreached hand for a handshake when they fronted the media.
“I don’t understand because aren’t those moments rehearsed,” Ms Power said.
“It’s just so uncomfortable.

First action i saw from uk's new guy starmer was letting prisoners out of jail after 40% of time served. They just let out a sex offender who is a foreigner. Not even deporting him l. Starmer is 0 for 1 in my book so far.

@@michaeld5888 my instinct would be to not let out any rapist early. That also if I am faced with prison shortages to announce plans to increase how many we can hold. To certainly be deporting a foreigner who is convicted of rape when they are no longer serving their sentence in our prison. Don't be xinvixted of rare of you don't want to be deported by me. I would also acknowledge that immigration numbers have gone up exponentially in recent years un the UK which will obviously increase future need for prisons and also the number is so high now that it is obviously out of control and needs to be dealt with and brought to at least semi reasonable levels. So yeah if it was me that rapist would not be free in the UK and would be announcing plans to increase room in prison and reform immigration. Or we can be starmer. Just let everyone oit after 40% of sentence completed. Don't deport a foreigner who is a convicted rapist. Dint announce any plans to increase prison room after facing no room in prisons. And dont address immigration that in recent heats has risen to ridiculous levels. I guess basic common sense is not an option.

As an American who voted for Trump, it’s uncomfortable to see this Australian woman newscaster laughing about Biden because he still is our President and if Australia ever was in trouble, you know the US would be there, so please show some respect. Also, Biden is my parent’s age. I don’t like to see anyone laughing about someone older who can’t help it. I agree with what this man is saying that I don’t think that Biden will be the nominee. However, I think that Harris would be a disaster. She was out of the race quickly in the presidential race, and her staff was known for unprofessional infighting and she has done very little as Vice President. And the border under her charge is and was a disaster. I think the Democratic National Committee would make a huge mistake in picking her. 🙏

As your piece implied, there is a total difference between resigning as candidate and not running for another term vs. resigning the presidency. Far too many US sites do not discuss that difference. There is a huge financial reason why it is better for the Dem party if Biden is named as the candidate and then withdraws for reasons of medical situation or disability. If he resigns prior to the nomination, all funds donated to "Biden/Harris" go to Harris. If he resigns after the nomination, the old men in their back rooms can nominate anyone they wish to replace him and can assign the funds to anyone they wish. They can also arrange a nice "golden parachute" for Biden. While he has stolen millions thru the years, it is obvious that he will not have a career charging $400K for a one hour speaking engagement or writing books with million dollar advances like some previous presidents and their wives have done. There are a few news outlets that have shown Biden's incapacity over the past 3 years, but all the mainstream media in the US have kept things hidden while the press and the dems in government have either lied or remained silent about the situation.

Sad to see that Sky News too is ignorant about the background of the Ukraine war.

The background is that Russia and the West both acted in bad faith. Russia ruthlessly pursued its interests, the West ruthlessly pursued its interests. Although, prior to 2022, people in the former Warsaw Pact countries (especially former Soviet states like Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine) didn't necessarily hate Russia, they really, really did not trust its policies or ambitions because they had been on the losing end of them far too many times. Ukraine, for its part, was never happy under Russian occupation. Russia grew ambitious and Ukrainians died. That's been the case for centuries. Putin, ageing and desperate to make a name for himself in Russian history, thought he could take his chance to be a successor to Peter the Great and Catherine the Great.
