Renault's F1 Anti-Lag System Uncovered
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Turbo Anti-Lag Systems are well known today, but at the start of the first Formula 1 Turbo Era there was one, you've never even heard about - the Dispositif Pre*rotation Variable - or short "DPV" engineered by Renault's Formula One engine genius - Jean Pierre Boudy.
It's a very clever way to spool up a turbocharger, maybe just as clever as the Subaru “Jet Engine” - Rocket Anti-Lag - but with less flames, much older and based on the Russian Swirl Throttle.

Is this system applicable to diesel engines as well?? Great editing btw, just slow down a little :)
@maisteer
3 ай бұрын
The same principle should also should work on normally throttle-less diesel engines. But turbochargers on diesel engines usually don't come with the seals that would be required to make it work. Traditional turbocharger seals CAN NOT seal against a vacuum on the compressor side. And if this is happens on a diesel.... sucking in oil and air will make it runaway. Maybe worth a try, but better not ^^ This video explains turbo charger sealing in more detail, maybe worth watching for you: kzread.info/dash/bejne/imiqsMSPqN2WiMY.html

@@ThaDutchDK1989 "Some people make a living ... with “”just “” 300k viewers .." - maybe, but this is missing a lot of context. Do they have something else they sell? How many videos they publish per month and in what niche? Do they have Sponsorships or paid memberships? How much do their videos cost to make? How long does it take to make them? My previous video was not free to make, and it took a long time to make it. When my first one went viral, the channel was not even monetized to benefit from it (at first). I invested money and time to make them - and I'd like to think they've provided a lot of value to the people that watched them. They've covered some things, I have never seen covered anywhere before. And I've learned myself a lot while making them. But there's something else I've learned recently... Advertisers HATE to pay for advertising in January, the month when the last video got the most traction. The first day of January the 'revenue-per-view' was almost 3x times lower than the day the video was released. I've enjoyed putting in the time and learning new stuff along the way, but I think that context is needed to understand the situation. From my perspective the way forward now is to make videos that don't cost money to make (and only when I can afford the time to make them). Someday that might open up the door to continue to do the content that I'm really interested in. (and seemingly most of my viewers) But until that day comes, there is now the option for the people that see the value in my videos to accelerate this process. There are now two options to get more of my content - you can pay with your money or your lifetime. You choose.

Top quality content as always! It’s great to see so much work put into the videos! I’ve made another donation to the exhaust research fund. Your V12 videos were a breath of fresh air - entertaining and informative. Helped so much with my m70 exhaust! Have you thought about merch? Hats/tshirts/hoodies? I’d buy one!!!

@@LemonborghiniThanks again for your support and I'm so glad you could get something out of my videos for your project. That's the point of making them. As for merch. I've seen the hassle my friend has had doing it, and he only delivers in one country. Since most of my viewers are not even from the country I live in, I've then also have to deal with customs in addition. I would spread myself to thin, if I would try to handle that by myself at the moment.
I dont think i ever laughed thus hard at a video about cars before
The subaru rally anti lag system is still one of the most impressive to me, I feel nothing beats it!! Hearing a turbo at full boost whilst the car is at idle is mesmerising... So much engineering went into it.

@yucannthahvitt251 you can make them from 321 or even 304, there is a pikes peak camaro that has an external combustor from stainless. The hardest thing is making it work with the electronics. A lot of dynotime = expensive
Darn this wa sawesome I cant believe how much efford and production value there is here! I really enjoeyed the video, and cant wait for more. Doesnt have to be exhaust, although I love those, anything from you is automatically great. but why isnt this used more widely today?

This editting is amazingly unhinged :D
This could be quite interesting setup on BMW engines with Valvetronic. Variable lift should allow for pretty much always open throttle and even better response and finer control.
Completely mental editing Loved it Incredible!
This is now my favourite channel.
Alright that editing was amazing, also when i get my paycheck i may just donate a little
Just did a subscription spring cleaning, and wanted to let you know the smile I had when I saw the name, and remembered the v12 video. Here we are my friend, thanks for another banger.

Darn, your videos are so great, I don't get why they are sometimes so unpopular. I think I've seen never before such editing, and I like it. Keep up the good work, greetings from Russia!
i was amazed by the facts i see in this video but i'm extremely impressed with the editing skill, bro you're on another level 💪
Not to be like I did know that this existed but I know it as a "Guide vane throttle" I know Cosworth were using it in the 80's and 90's, but I did not know where it came from. Nice video.

Outstanding editing, absolutely epic
My high school car was a '66 Corvair Turbo. MUCHO LAG. My Dad's identical twin brother was Chief Engineer for Outboard Marine Corporation's Lawn Boy Division. Dad worked on airliners with piston engines, turboprops, turbojets and turbofans. They came up with the idea of locking the Corvair's carburetor butterfly open and making the foot throttle turn the distributor instead. It had the disadvantage that the exhaust pipes all glowed yellow and it drank gas at a fantastic rate. But the manual transmission car AT IDLE kept the turbo spooled up to an estimated 90,000 rpm. Not long after that Uncle Jerry came up with what he called "The Mechanical Switch" because it operated much the way a railroad track switch works. Thrown one way the gas pedal operated with the distributor locked at stock 24 degrees and it opened the carburetor like when stock. Throw the small lever on the floor the other way and the carb locked wide open and the gas pedal took the distributor from 24 degrees AFTER Top Dead Center at idle all the way to the normal 24 BTDC. It took more than three whole seconds off the car's standing start 1/4 elapsd time.
such quality content, props to you and the creator

Phenomenal. New favorite car media
You've just declared war with the global armadillo population after that comment
I have seen many tries to get turbo and super-chargers to work without lag, and the best way, before fuel injection was to pressurize the carburetor. Then, someone put a gate between the intake and carburetor, to bypass the turbo. That worked, but was unreliable for all situations, and didn't work for superchargers. My favorite design is still the turbo or super-charger to pressurize the carburetor, even tho you need a can over the carb.
Such a high production value, gg dude
