It is not the protesters job to defend Biden. As leader, he should inspire people to want to vote for him through his policies. If his policies are leading people in a direction that would result in his defeat, he should change them. He doesn’t want to. Biden is intent on allowing Trump to win, not the voters.

Civil disobedience goes much farther back in American history. It's been a crucial part of most campaigns for change in our history including the labor rights movement during the brutal era of The Guilded Age (domination by Robber Baron capitalism), back to the movement to end slavery and even before that for the movement to separate from England.

Civil disobedience is hard to organize because one provocateur can ruin everything. The campus protests were forced to close their ranks against non-students -- they would have been much better off if they'd been able to ask for the participation of the general public. But they learned early on that as soon as they did, someone that no one knew and who wasn't with anyone would start babbling about Jews. The best organized groups had a single spokes, and attempts by the media to sift through the protestors until they could find one who made silly arguments were balked because everyone responded to questions with the "talk to our spokesperson". I've heard the press considered this dirty pool, which is weird -- they deal with communications departments in every other context without even thinking about it. The ADL publicly called on the protests to be "infiltrated".
Robbie had an evil looking smirk at the mention of the national guard maybe getting called in.

"[I am] deeply concerned to learn that she is now facing administrative detention for four months, without charge and with no due process for her, her family or lawyers to challenge this. ... Under administrative detention, people can be held for four months and which can be renewed every four months for up to two years. Protest certainly helped to end US war crimes and agression in Indochina. But it was ultimately the resistance of the Vietnamese that ended the war. But protest here did raise the domestic costs of aggression as the US could not declare a national mobilization WW2 style, which was very good for the economy.
@chrisburnett9905
20 күн бұрын
Escalating the war WW2 style wasn't a realistic option in 1968. Johnson quit and Nixon said he had a secret plan to end the war. His desire not to oversee the U.S. loss of the war led to U.S. gradually turning things over to the South Vietnamese and the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops in 1973, Then South Vietnam was overrun in 1975. What is certain to happen, however, is more political contentiousness regardless of who wins this fall's presidential election. BTW, I'm also a former journalist and political science/journalism professor and I lived through the Vietnam War era.
@StinkCabbage

@@chrisburnett9905 Yeah and as Nixon was limiting the ground support for the client dictatorship in the South, the brunt of the war shifted to the bombers and under his watch 4.5 million tons of bombs fell on Indochina in a vain effort to sustain the client regime the US backed in the South. And Nixon managed to widen the war by expanding it to Laos and Cambodia. And my point about a national mobilization is well taken. Fighting a guns and butter war isn't efficient. By the way, I also have a degree in political science. But credentials aren't really needed to understand things in the social sciences. All it requires is an ability to read and elementary common sense. @@chrisburnett9905We won in Vietnam. Our definition of "winning" was different than the WW2 definition. Our goal was triangular diplomacy. We wanted to drive a wedge between Russia and China. In order to "win" in the traditional sense we needed 1 million boots on the ground. The pentagon knew this, LBJ and Nixon/Kissinger knew this. We wanted to put as much pressure on China as possible. Remember China had issues with Vietnam leadership at the time. Nixon said he would pull the troops out. Which he did in a gradual way. He used the navy and air force more than troops. We won that war because our goals were different than traditional war. That was also the war where we created "counter terrorism." That was under the JFK administration though.

And did everything he possibly could to take care of his big energy donors by scrapping almost every piece of environmental protection legislation on the books. He never came close to securing the border as even ultra MAGA congressman Chip Roy will tell you. He was never the anti establishment peace guy everyone proclaims he was. He did manage to achieve the unique distinction of having dropped more bombs and ordering more drone strikes than his two predecessors put together. Holding faculty hostage is despicable. I hope that that old man is not proud of what he did or anybody who had participated in that type of disgusting behavior. Every citizen has their right to peacefully protest, but If peaceful protests cannot contain themselves without becoming violent or wherein you start breaking the rules or the laws, then there has to be parameters on that. The issue with the protests now is the inclusion of hate speech, the intimadation of protected classes and people's, antisemitic speech and calls for violent actions, which in no way is protected under free speech and unfortunately most citizens apparently don't understand that and these people will have to face the consequences of their actions whether they understand what the consequences are or not. @@brandonburns5365 It's their, not there. I'm not certain of specific institution policy on refunding fees following expulsion but there are mechanisms in place for that at every institution. Code of conduct is agreed upon in your enrollment, so it's a contract.

No comparison with this and what would happen if these students were screaming for the extinction of black people because of what is happening in Africa! Would they be treated the same?

first admit that anti genocide demonstrations in no way call for the elimination of a race.

Jews are ridiculously overrepresented among the protestors. So if you and the media were reporting that protestors were calling for the extinction of black people, and then showing protestors that were mostly black, I would know I was being lied to and tell you to pull the other one.
I think this prof made a lot of good points. Apparently, he made no one happy. :/
This all ends when Hamas surrenders

biden's stupidity on teh issue will help elect trump
Buden is responsible for his own actions. So be it, if Trump gets elected. This would be a lesson to DEMS. But there is a third choice. Vote Jill Stein.
Why compare to 1968? Ask Briana about Jan 6th. I hope the get equal sentences
Biden's Israel can absolutely do no wrong views could help elect Trump.
It's a done deal. Trump will be president. He doesn't even need to campaign.

It seems like that, and he'd honestly be better off not campaigning. Anyway, the congressional and local elections are more important. The President is utterly immune to popular pressure, unless people become far more organized than they are now. Congress is a different story.
