Anthony's 80's Vision Mark Gonzales Custom Skateboard

Ойын-сауық

I had been wanting an 80's pro skateboard. I picked out all the parts I liked from my dad's skateboard shop www.amjskateshop.com and he surprised me in the store with them one day. It's an awesome 80's Mark Gonzales reissue setup and it is fun to ride.

    When I was like 13,the shop where I hung out every day after school was having a demo with a raffle. And I knew the board they were going to raffle and the entire setup. I won the raffle and they called me up to receive it I'll never forget it. Sims Rocco, thunders and Sims nitros!!! I was watching and counting the days to get that board!! Sad thing is some kids stalked me and my buddy one day, coming home from the shop and we were overpowered and I got the board robbed out of my little 13 year old hands. Dad helped me in the next week's put another one together, different colors, but same stuff!! Thanks Dad!!😄😄

    man... I loved the 80s... my 40th is coming up and my wife is buying me what I had back in the day.. It was the Vision M. Gonz.. I'm stoked.. It's been a long time but nothing wrong with cruising and getting that feeling back.. All I need is a boom box, with some Agent Orange playing. Great video! Kid got some taste!

    Great video man! Your son has great taste in 80's board history ( thanks pops ) . Traded for my first Gonz back in 1985 and just ordered the new concave one today (age 43). Hope he holds onto that deck forever , even as a wall hanger after he's thrashed it . Good looking out Dad!

    Jarett! Such a great video! Reminds me so much of my first pro setup. Mom brought me to the Schwinn bike shop in Lima and let me pick out all my parts and they put it together right there in front of me. 1989...such a long time ago, but such an impact on my memory as I'm sure this is and will always be for Anthony. Good stuff! Made me smile!

    Killer. My son is 8 and just got his first real setup. I was stoked that he wanted a shaped old school deck. He chose an elephant brand street axe. I'm 42 and I ride a modern cowtown popsicle on 139 indys and 54mm skateboarding is not a crime wheels and an old school Santa Cruz 30th anniversary broken, sitting on 8.38 minilogos with 60mm 97a slimeballs (vomits,never maggots!) although I wanted OJii elite combos. Never had any board that wasnt a Powell Peralta, Santa Cruz or SMA until I bought that cowtown 8" popsicle, also never ridden any wheels but Santa Cruz. I prefer the comfort and confidence I have with the extra weight, width and most importantly, the longer wheelbase. The wheelbase is the thing I like least about modern decks. It's funny how at our age, the riding is second nature, it's the falling that I suck at. Those 66 slimeballs will flat out fly and they are killer sliders. Blown away by your son's good fortune and taste in that set up!

    Thanks for the comment to dude, and that is so awesome that your son wanted an old school board too, not to mention an elephant brand board. Now that I know more about skateboarding I wish I did get the slimeball vomits, though the OJii elite's look sweet as well. It's a fun board to ride still till this day. Again thanks for the comment and tell your son that I said to keep on shredding!

    Awesome video, really cool to see the new generations getting into the roots. Quick question regarding old school decks. I'm looking at the Vision Agressor 2 reissue, and the place I'm ordering from doesn't include risers in the complete build. This is my first time dealing with a classic board, so I'm really not sure what to put on there, if any? It's got OJ III 60 mm wheels. Any thoughts?

    +dick tuno Love that deck, this is my opinion....but i'd put a 1/2" riser on there. There's quite a few things that can help determine whether or not though. How do you ride you trucks? Loose, tight, medium? If loose, you want to keep yourself from getting wheelbite as much as possible. If tight, you might not need to worry about a riser, or with the 60mm wheel you might want to do an 1/8" soft riser. Haha, there are so many possibilities on this. Risers are cheap man, i'd say get a few sets and try them out to see what feel you like best.

    Aw man , almost made me cry ! I grew up skating in the mid to late 70s & 80s . It's really refreshing to see a younger person taking interest in "pig decks" ! I'm considered the dinosaur in the family , but I've decked out all of my kids , nieces , nephews and even the grand nieces and nephews too . I have given them all the options for their boards and even tell them when skateboarding was a CRIME . Yuup the cops would confiscate your board for multiple warning violations , but we'd get them back after a while . Right on ! PS: where's the nose guard and tail block ?

  • @AMJProductions

    @AMJProductions

    Thank you very much for the comment, we really appreciate it! I (dad) grew up skating in the late 80's to present. I too remember skateboarding being a crime, and really for the most part in our hometown it still is. It's definately further from being accepted then the alternative. Which is good and bad. Skateboarding in my opinion should always have a certain uncertainty from the outside people looking in on it, thats what used to make it great. Becoming accepted erases the core principles it was built on. Regardless...we ended up making a custom tail gaurd for it that came out very well. My suppliers on occasion will carry re-issue products, at the time we were making the board they didn't have tail blocks in stock. And unfortunately i've never seen them carry nose guards haha. Again, thanks for the comment!

    Yea gullwings are cool. Indy's are great as well. My dad helped me build this board. He told me that back in the 80's gullwings and tracker trucks were up there with indy's *in terms of popularity*. Gullwings have that dip in the middle of the truck. If you rode ramps, the idea behind the dip was that your trucks could lock into grinds better. It's all personal preference though. Me and my dad both have indy's on our new school boards.

    I've been riding Gullwing super pro III since 1989. I have tried Indy, Tracker, Thunder and my personal opinion is Gullwing is better feeling and almost as if they give me more pop and seem lighter. Always had the pro III with the composite plate and used 1/8" soft risers. However I noticed these days Gullwing are selling super pro III with a metal base and still calling them by the former name. I cannot however speak for that model. Maybe worth a try for you. I love them and they have somewhat of a cult following with loyal fans so that alone can say a lot. Ah fuck it, go get some haha! :)
