Happy to have been a young skater during his 80's peak. His artwork on those boards is imprinted on me in a big way.
Thank you Jim seriously. I have specific memories as a kid walking into skate shops and staring at your art work for hours. I read that Santa Cruz comic 100s of times and rode your graphics for years. You were are one of the reasons I have a lifelong love of skateboarding. Thank you.
Got the screaming hand sticker on the laptop that I'm viewing this clip on. Iconic! Thanks Transworld.

Thanks Jim Phillips, brilliant body of works!
Great history lesson, thank you for all the rad work Jim ❤️
Phillips was the reason I always had Santa Cruz boards. And still have. They look the way a skateboard supposed to look like.
This was so good! I was obsessed over Santa Cruz's decks, but I was real crazy over the Rob Roskopp designs. Still am! That ugly face, the melting face, or the big awesome eyeball 👍😉
So good thank you for making and uploading this. Very important history of some of skateboarding’s most iconic Graphics. His art amazes me truly one of my favorite artists.
I've watched this a couple of times now and it gets better with each look. Hats off to the team who created and edited this!

Correction for the video description: *THE* most iconic graphic artist in the skateboard industry, Jim Phillips. VCJ comes in a close second.

Depends on your age I think. For me it was Sean Cliver. He's behind the same number of World Industries/Dwindle classic beyond classics from my early, formative years (early 90's) as Jim and VCJ were to the generation 1/6 dozen years earlier.
Thanks Jim!
Such a legend!
excelleeeeeeeent!!!!!
His art is my childhood.
Muito obrigado Jim!
now please in full movie length ♥
Thanks Jim...
For me, this 3:24 should have been at least 9:00. Man you blazed through that too quick.

One of my favorite skateboard graphic artist. Have a decent collection of Santa Cruz skate decks on my channel.
The Natas panther in the video was designed by Wes Humpston. Jim Phillips did the other one.

I thought Kevin Ancell drew the original panther? I'm old and my memory is shot.

I think Chris Buchinsky did the first panther graphic, Jim Phillips and Wes Humpston did the next three. The one that's shown in this video is Wes Humpston's artwork.

PEOPLE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN THIS MIGHT BE ABLE TO ANSWER THIS. what happened to bullet wheels? i know you can still get the 66mm but i mean the normal ones. i used to rock the 95a 60mm for years. speaking of that, why dont they make 95a wheels any more?

Love Jim Phillips, had a Roskopp the year it was released.
skate imagination would not be the same with out you JIm
I wish they would put the sun god graphic on a old school shape that is more skateable than other shape they have it on now. Hint hint, wink wink.
Last deck I had was a SantaCruz ever slick. It broke in half after I did a judo air off a launch ramp. The deck wasn’t even a week old. Best deck I ever had was a Hensley stained glass window double kick. The best graphics ever were from World Industries. The Vallely farm deck started it all. Last trick I learned was a 360 flip back in 91. I quit it 92. Wish I never did quit. 30 years later I weigh a buck fifty and if I didn’t have a bad back I’d still be skating. Tom Knox said it best: Once a skater always a skater.
dude you got ta slow down and make this rdrawn out, its almost ruuining the history of it.
Gg
Not saying if you skate this you’re a poser but the Santa Cruz red dot logo is pretty much the face of tiktok posers
80's graphics were generally SO much better than the mindless idiotic garbage you see on boards today. A lot of modern designers seem to be mentally retarded people or satanists that think that just because it's printed on a board it somehow magically becomes 'cool'... There are so many 80's decks I'd buy purely to have them as a piece of art on the wall!...
