Anthony & Marsha Springer : Left to Burn

Anthony and Marsha Springer didn't like caring for their daughter with disabilities, so they kept her chained to her bed. When the house caught on fire, nobody was there to save her.

We pull up the cop knocks on the door she opens. The cop says “ your daughter made various claims of abuse to her friends and teacher “ in front of me . There was no follow up interview or child welfare check . My life was forever ruined because of the trauma screw Cps .

The issue with trials is that you have to convict of something you know you can prove. If they tried for 1st degree murder and we're unable to prove it without reasonable doubt in the eyes of the jury, then we'd have another Casey Anthony case. Better to try for a lesser, easier to prove charge to nail the conviction.

I’d really like to know why, when CPS becomes involved because of reports coming from teachers and school counselors(mandated reporters), the parents are allowed to remove the child from school, purportedly to “nome school” that very child? What’s wrong with this picture? Calista, I hope you have lots of friends where you are and are free of pain and fear. Rest easy baby girl.

This is so heartbreaking. I live in a rural area where this type of behavior is rampant. The very sectors in place to protect our children behave this way. Money, power and job security is more important than our children's safety? WHY did they not follow up? Laziness. Plain and simple. I had a young child who was friends with my son. I had seen her hurt several times by the people around her. I made a call and spilled my guts. At that time she was 10 and being molested by her mother's boyfriend. Six years later, a news story showed a 15 year old girl turned in her mother's boyfriend for sexual abuse. Finally, she got justice. This is after 15 years of repeated reports. The agencies need to look beyond the surface. It will prevent years of irrepairable emotional damage to the victims.

15 reports of abuse! This is so disgusting and unconscionable. The CPS workers must not have had a soul! This makes me so angry and sad! I’ll never understand the purpose of CPS. After my mom died I was raised by my alcoholic grandparents. I’d tell CPS I wanted out and it wasn’t a good place to live and the social worker told me “they could feed you only potatoes and give you the sack to wear and you’d still be taken care of, you aren’t going anywhere.” As a 14 year old I lost all hope. As a 29 year old now I’m still plagued with the trauma of being raised by them. CPS is so corrupt.

The laws in most / many states are HIGHLY biased toward reunification of the family based because of warped idea of parental rights. When CPS is adequately and competently staffed (which is not nearly often enough), they’re often still hamstrung by the law’s bias in favor of parents. “Best interests of the child” rarely govern the outcome by law. I’m sorry you experienced what you did. The system is broken as hell and it needs to be reformed from the ground up, including the laws and constitutional provisions that govern how things can be handled, and it needs the funding to hire the best people and fund the services needed for parents, but more importantly for children.

As much as Anthony wanted to shame the community, the fact of the matter is, he did nothing but take advantage of the kindness of the community. He and Marsha are scammers. What they did to their children was beyond monstrous. There is so much more to say about this case. There are current and former CPS workers who should have been charged with dereliction of duties. Unfortunately, a parent can set other siblings against one another just by treating them different. The other kids will perceive that the sibling has done something and even grow to despise them, though the sibling has done nothing. It is then easy to get the other kids to say whatever to cover for you. It's happened in several of these types of stories. Also, it is a vicious circle, the more the one sibling is treated differently, the more different they act, exacerbating the situation. It is an especially sickening type of abuse.

They don't have them fir under 12 unless it's severe. Basically unable to function in any way. The system does NOT want that burden and will fight taking it. Pica is no joke. This story is kind of unfair. I worked in a developmental center for 5+ yrs. They were hooked up to w/e they were in at the time 24/7. Bed = restraint, chair = restraint, wheelchair = restraint etc. They would become violent often, these ppl weren't capable of handling this. No reg ppl would be. Impossible. I'm not saying they're great ppl. I'm just saying it's an unfair telling. They're only real option would of been to forfeit the kid. Nvr see her again or updates or anything. Which is what most do. NONE of the residents where I worked got a visitor. EVER. They just laid, sat and moaned. Tried to eat the bed sheets, which actually happened a few times. Nurses beat tf out of them. You'd tell right? Who? The supervisor? Nope, they did it too. The administration? Show proof, no cameras allowed, no recording devices whatsoever. If it can't be proven, you will be terminated for creating a hostile work environment. Care center?! Grow up. Only an option if you have 500k a yr to spare.

Schools and CPS workers need to dive deeper when it comes to kids suffering at home. I feel like so many people focus on the undesirable behavior a child is engaging in rather than finding an explanation for why they are doing it. Sure there are kids that are more prone to misbehaving than others, but often times misbehavior is a cry for help. It's heartbreaking to hear that she wished for a new family and some friends, she had to feel so alone. 💔

Way too often its used to make the child isolated and unseen due to some sort of abuse. There is obviously way too much leniency given and eyes which are turned the other way, and only the children suffer for it.

They exaggerated her problems as some sort of defense, which clearly is nonsense. I'm so glad the jury and the judge thought so as well. As for CPS; it's always the same story just a different child in a different place. Utterly useless to the point of criminality. RIP Callista you deserved so much better.

I often can’t watch stories where children are abused and/or killed, but I took a chance. My fears were true. Some time ago I saw one about a young black boy whose mother was incapable of taking care of him. He then went to his Grandmother. Everyone failed him. Even the teachers at the school. He died a horrible death. I wished I remembered his name. I looked up his name then and teared up when I saw all the tributes for this little boy.

Love your voice so much, love your content. You are true crime Final Boss, sir. And my son is on the spectrum. He is now 25 years old and pursuing his PhD in Latin and History. Nothing they could have said about my child on paper could have squelched my happy wish to continually feed his love of learning. Family outings were museums and book stores and dollar movies at the mall. I was fortunate enough to be able to homeschool him, which eliminated some really nasty bullying that was going on in public school. I don't understand how just anyone is allowed to homeschool - I had two BAs and a love of learning and reading, and I see parents who can't even write a proper sentence or do third grade math teaching their children. I hope they know there will be test they must pass at the end of it all to qualify as "taught," if you want them to have any credentials at all. Our children are rockstars, and it's crushing to see, when parents truly behave like monsters.

I've been diagnosed with bipolar, APD, BPD, NPD, extreme rage/ anger with "Rage blackout", among few other diagnosis. With that said --- I can FULLY understand being angry, going into "Rage" mode, etc.... But even with all of my issues, I've been able to work it out so I can minimize how I react with my children & family. I've been through numerous meds.. which they just made me more angry & the lithium treatment made me lose 40% of my hair. So I opted to work it out on my own. (I am a smoker cigs & 420) I also thoroughly communicate with my family & children. I also have a phrase I tell my children so they know to stay away from me. (I do not want to lash out at my children for no reason at all) It's the duty of that individual to manage their own issues, period. Also to add --- I was one of those crazies that actually had to work on building up "compassion" & I've had to actually learn to "love"... (I know -- it sounds mad crazy.. but that's the best way I can describe it. 😂) So --- I always say that pos like these characters are just weak & feel the need to pick on the vulnerable groups of people to feel like a "man" when they're really nothing but a 🐈‍⬛ I am also an introverted misanthrope. No excuse to mistreat *ANY* child, period. 💯💯 Children deserve better... nothing but love ❤️ Edit: that pos can drop that "we are a victim" bs... 🙄🙄 #RIP Little Angel 🕊😞
