Anthony Kiedis - Episode 26 - As It Lays, Season 2

    I have a world of respect for Anthony Kiedis. From the first time I saw him on tv running down the street in the Under The Bridge video on MTV when I was 4 years old, I have listened to nearly every song he has ever written, read his book about 20 times and every interview I have seen with him just reaffirms that he is a spiritual giant and one of the greatest poets of our time. This might be the best interview I have seen of his. I love the dry humor but the questions are so thought provoking. You can tell Anthony is impressed with these questions. He really is amazing!

    I admire that he is open about being sober addict, I think this is very important to communicate with people, especially young ones, what addiction really is and how it will transform your life. Maybe one day we will see him talking to kids at school about drug abuse and addiction, I always took it way more seriously from people who abused drugs themselves and talked about it than just "regular' adults warning you.

  • @OaksArmorial

  • @LenkaMichalkova

    @LenkaMichalkova

    @@OaksArmorial please don't get me wrong, I don't mean to disregard people who never been addicted that try to keep people from abusing, no, bless their hearts but there is a difference in sharing information and getting the message over. We see lot of prevention at schools but I don't think that police officers telling teenagers that drugs are bad is going to have a long term effect on them. Most of the people that abuse dope are in age 18-25, I can imagine that once the fear of authority is gone and you start drinking/smoking etc you might start thinking what else have they been scaring you of from, maybe you start thinking that the addiction is not really as strong, that you can handle it and then it's already too late. In rehab facilities they make people talk to each other, I view this as a true way to make people understand, because lot of addicts are self-abusing, self-destroying but they still might have empathy and this is extremely powerful and we need to share this. Hearing people talk about this hell, about this pain makes you understand way deeper than fear. Ever since I was young I was reading books or listening to talks about heroin and this was reason why even just thinking about heroin turns my blood into painful mess and it made me sad when I heard AK said that he regrets writing Scar tissue, because I felt such pain from this book that it reminded my fragile mind that likes to get high, what this shit is really about, and I saw many people sharing the same view on this book. Forget the gossips, the judgements, there are more important things in life, and one of them is helping people any way you can.

    Lenka Michalkova I strongly agree that the education system could do better at drug education & prevention. However in my experience I also think parenting plays an enormous role in the development of an adults decisions later in life. The whole system/approach of parenting needs a revamp. It’s similar to how I view people owning dogs in the current day in age. A majority of people are oblivious to the magnitude of education you must have and implement when raising a living being. Not saying that raising a dog and child are the same but they’re quite similar. Similar to how pet owners neglect and or are ignorant to proper socialization, training, exposure to body handling etc Parents of kids similarly can be ignorant the importance of teaching healthy habits, boundaries, what/how to do things instead of reprimanding the bad, fill their kids time with productive activities-all of these scenarios require a parent to have a certain perspective, knowledge of how and why these things are important & serious involvement. If severely overlooked, a dog forms behavioral issues that the owner and outside world deem normal until a certain point like aggression. A kid will present the same. And then it’s all so confusing for the dog / child. They grow up and if never intervened, can become a harm to themselves and others. The underlying thing in all of these is how the being was raised and of course possible trauma/abuse/neglect sometimes genetics etc.

    kiedis is not practicing the steps . he is a dry drunk/addict. your not getting high but your going to epstein island. at 44 you get a girl under pregnant after she kicked you to the curb for cheating on her with an 18 old. she takes you back after 2 months and she is pregnant. you did not marry her and after the child was potty trained he gets primary custody or joint custody. i think primary. goes back to the 18 year old he cheated on with. dumps her when she hits 25 or got tired of his ass. RECOVERY IS MORE THAN NOT GETTING HIGH.

    I'm sure somebody here has commented on the seemingly intentional deadpan style of the interviewer (like Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis), but what is impressive to me is Kiedis's quick-witted responses. It really is a sign of someone's intelligence when they can adapt that quickly and just go along with the awkwardness. And he still manages to come off as candid and sincere (and funny). This could've played very badly, but Kiedis is a pro.
