As someone who very much understands that feeling of isolation and loneliness from long term drug addiction, this just really resonated with me. Sometimes when I feel so low, music really is the only thing I can connect with. I also love how thoughtful all of his answers are. You can tell how important it is to him to correctly convey what he is feeling.

@@AG-ur1lj I think that the songs that we don't like, we just don't understand. And we have the capacity to understand any sort of music, but it takes time for your neurons to come together in a way for you to realize the importance of the symphony/noise or the combination. One song you like is just a gateway to the album, and then the artist. And then, an artist's frame of mind at moments in time..... Music is actually a painting in time.

At the end of the video, after discussing many other amazing bands from that preceding time period, John mentioned specifically about his love for REM and that their music made him feel like he had a friend during a time in his life where he felt close to the edge of existence. That’s a really beautiful thought that I think a lot of us take for granted when thinking about artistic contributions, and what we value in terms of style. I know that I’ve personally found myself moved to tears by their music before, and that has value beyond strictly clinical abilities. Indirectly, REM saved music for everyone post 99’.

Such an interesting artist. You wonder if he even realizes how brilliant he is and what an influence he is to other guitarists. So surprising to see someone who is so remarkably gifted be so insecure or vulnerable. It was somehow refreshing. Very human, thankfully.

That’s what led me here. Pretty awesome to hear. The size of the gap in quality between the albums featuring him and the ones without him is stagger. They’ve made maybe 4 decent songs in total without him. They are one of the best bands ever with him, and arguably, a completely forgettable band without him.

To be fair, John was sort of rambling and was the reason for the topic being drawn out 😂 he could’ve just answered the question with a short and sweet compliment. It seemed as if his older guilty subconscious was coming back and he felt the need to explain and right all of the old wrongs he used to say about Anthony.

Oh, wow 😃 Even though I didn’t know about the b-side of In Utero John spoke about when he said *_“moist vagina and ehh what was that song called ehh..”_* @09:00 I some how knew inside me (and hoped) he’ll say “Sappy” and he did 🤗 It’s been my ultimate favorite “rare” Nirvana song since I was 15, I downloaded it from Napster on 3,75 kb/s speed and added it to my Mini Disc player back at 97/98... I knew he’d met and toured with Nirvana, but I didn’t know John to be such a fan, although *TeaJerker @ One hot minute* is about Kurt Cobain, John F wasn’t in the band at that period. *With out Nirvana, I would have never been motivated to pick up my sisters guitar and start learning by listening to their albums.* 🙏🏼💜
