The song was composed by the Romanian Ciprian Porumbescu. (''Pe-al nostru steag e scris unire'' / eng: Union is written on our flag). The same song is also the anthem of Albania.

I am Romanian but I don't know why some Romanians are angry because the melody is loosely based on Porumbescu's composition. For me it is good to see that something Romanian has some influence on other European cultures. Albanians also used the composition for their anthem.
