If you're new here, welcome! I hope you'll subscribe so you can see more of what I do with old books. If you are curious, yes I do sell them when they are finished. I do not take orders or do commissions, but rather I sell them on a first come, first served basis. I always give a heads up so if there is one that is speaking to you, you can pop over to my Etsy shop (link below) on that day/time.
Thanks for watching 👋😀📚✂️
Please note: I usually just turn on my camera and chatter while I work. It's not fancy. It's not clever tutorials (although I do hope you learn something.) It's just me creating in my studio 🥰🎨 #junkjournals

I just love old books. The look of the covers and the feel of the papers! I like greens and blues. Love the journal you are making now.

I'm going to write that suggestion down and do that some day. Remind me in a few months if I've forgotten. I do that these days. LOL!

Fun to see your "stuff"! You have such a soothing voice I fell asleep the first time I watched. I am 73 now, and I think I have at least 10 more years in me!

Nancy's "Scottish Chiefs" was a beautiful journal! You're lucky to have a copy of that book too. I love yourLouvre books! I have only one and it's a paperback that I got at the Louvre in the shop there in 1984. It was published in the 70's. I loved seeing all of your books and interesting magazines. I love the picture of the two men and the boat on the front inside cover of the journal you're working on now. That is a beautiful picture in my opinion! I really enjoyed this today Catherine!💐

As ever, thanks for joining me Kathleen. It's nice to read your cheery comments. You'll find another Louvre book when you least expect it. I just know it.

Absolutely love your book collection! My favorite books are the old ones from the 1800’s-1900’s. It’s amazing to think how long these have been around and I would love to know the background of each one! 😆 As for color I can’t really decide- anything with an interesting cover and title is my jam!❤️

That's my thing too... wishing I knew who owned it, who read it, what was their life like? Did they like the book? All these things go through my head. And makes me so glad that at least they aren't recycled back into paper pulp. They become art.

Good morning ☕️ That was a wonderful morning coffee time. Thank you for sharing your books with us. There has to be a way to use those big books. They are to beautiful not to. A 3 inch spine makes for an awkward working journal anyway. Maybe the wide spine as a bookmark. There just has to be a way. You will think out of the box and how exciting. If you're taking requests.... a close up and story of your original artwork would be cool. 😊 ❤ Thank you.

Thank you Catherine for making my junk journal hoard look small ;) I've got to show my husband this video lol. Of course, I also have sewing, quilting, watercolour and scrapbooking hoards, but that is irrelevant :) I need to get back to crafting, but anytime I get into my craftroom, I get overwhelmed with all the cool stuff!

Ahhhh I know the feeling. When I point at the closet, it's because that is my "Monica's Art Closet". Meaning it's stuffed full of MY paints, brushes, watercolour papers, etc. LOLOL! I sure do appreciate your feelings when you get in your room ❤️

Catherine you have so many wonderful books!! 😘👌🏻 Thank you for the tour of all your amazing stuff and answering my question! 😍👏🏻 I mean….is there such a thing as “too much” Edith 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ I think not 😉😆 A lot of these books (most of them really), even if they don’t end up being made into journals, they are just beautiful as they are to use as decor and have on display. I just love old books and their beauty. They don’t make them like they used to!! Hahaha you made me LOL at the end with the “Buddy the Elf” comment 🤣👍🏻

My favorite color is blue. My journals tend to be shades of blue, green, dark reds. Right now I am using a colorful book called Summer by Alice Low. It is so fun!

One thing you could do is sell “junk journal kits”. You have enough stuff there for you to make these curated junk journal covers, and ephemera kits. This would be a way to use up the BIG books that make it difficult for you to sell and ship. Always let me know if there is a book you don’t want. I will be more than happy to buy it off you. Not that I need any more books, but who can resist? Also, one thing you could try to do with some of those super heavy books if you want to sell them, is to time the sale with a trip over the border. USPS has a media mail rate that cannot be beat, and books qualify for media mail.

♥️🥰Great video! Thinking you can use the “too big” book covers and make a smaller spine… that’ll mean a lighter journal (less pages) to ship. Of course it’ll mean extra time to create a new spine… Hmmm…. Decisions, decisions…. oh the perils of a Journal Artiste!! 😉. Sending luv!❤

I'm going to think about that. Another subscriber also suggested making a book mark out of the original spine so it doesn't go to waste. Which is also a great idea. I now have hope.

Colors I use lots of: reds, rose, greens, blues, black, purple--- deep purple, but never lavendar --- yick! I love dark gray's. I'm learning to love orange and yellows -- but not neons. I love the antique books. I have two copies of The Diary of a Provincial Lady bc I had so much ephemera for my first copy that I went ahead and bought a second copy to use all the same colors in the ephemera I had made or collected! My next challenge is to find an outlet to sell the journals I have made and are making. Any tips on that? I would appreciate them!

This has been YEARS of having no self control when I find a pretty book, or an old book, or an ugly book, at thrift stores, yard sales, online, and a local book sale that happens near me every Saturday. I have had to force myself to only go to that one once a month. Oh, and I love ready many of them too!
