    This. It was only recently finally mentioned by Bruce Greene when they were discussing Star Citizen, and he made the point about how gacha mobile games completely overshadow what Star Citizen makes. So 700 million seems like a lot (and it is for a crowdfunded game) but compared to other AAA titles and mobile games, it's a drop in the bucket.

    not only that but even non service games like Red Dead Redemption 2 made more within 3 days of its opening weekend in 2018 than Star Citizen in 12 years with $730 million in revenue and by the end of 2018 they made $1.4 billion. That game did cost approximately $500 million including marketing so they pretty much broke even within a day.

    In regards to crafting I wish they look at Star Wars galaxies' system where the material that you gather (metals, fibres, gas, etc) have variable quality which impacts the end product. Imagine players are able to craft shield component of better quality than what's in the stores. Plus the best crafters were well known around their servers. It adds so much to the social aspect of the game, not just the gameplay loop.

    I like the idea, that when your LTi ship blows up - you request a replacement and an order is made for a player to fulfil/make that ship and deliver it to a location. Had not really considered a player could craft a better ship than the store. Not sure how I feel about that. I do like the idea a crafted ship could come with the components you have specked.

  • @havocnchoas

    I've said it before, and I'll continue saying it, but we need items to matter, more than just "I need ammo" or "I need armor". In EVE, at least 90% of ALL ITEMS in game can be melted down to "crafting" resources. This means that even a heap of underpowered, or "worthless" items can be turned into a useful component or even an entire ship. I have personally constructed battleships (the largest non capital class ship in EVE) with little more than "worthless loot" collected from PVE ratting. This means that there is always a derived player demand to every such item for its melted value. To add to this, I sincerely believe that once we go 1.0 live release, "owning" a ship or fps gear in Star Citizen should not mean that you can endlessly spawn it from a hangar, but instead that you own a blueprint to make that thing. This way, if you blow up your Idris, it's not just a respawn timer or expidition fee, but also resources you need to collect or have on hand. "Destruction matters" is one of the pillars of EVE and I believe a good sandbox space simulator of any kind. Maybe it's too late to move to blueprints, but I think it would correct a lot of the problems we're all seeing staring us in the face for release...

    The issue with server meshing is the server/s must be able to support the entire population of all of the other nodes in the same shard. For that reason the server cap needs to be a fraction of load compacity incase the shard population moves all to one location that would be on the same server node.

    My take on what REALLY needs to be in before the game feels like an MMO: player activity NEEDS to be directed towards specific areas with an actual reason to group and collaborate. At this point im just salvaging, doing ERT's, bunkers.. solo, solo, and solo. a buggy event once every blue moon does not an MMO make. so yeah, nonstop, dynamic group events which gets players together (be it co-op play or pvp) is the only thing that's needed at the moment.

    I have to agree with Croncy about the $700 million in the tracker not being what CIG has spent. At the end of 2022, the CIG financial report stated that over the life of the project, CIG had spent $630 million, with almost $130 million of that coming in 2022. If spending remained the same, that means total spending on the project was $760 million at the end of 2023. Projecting out a little further, it is likely CIG has spent over $800 million developing Star Citizen and Squadron 42 since April 2012.

  • @BizzMRK

    Ай бұрын

    people really overhype the whole vehicle (not ship) repair facility stuff on the Ironclad. The Carrack, Crucilbe and some other deep space explorer ships also all have "crafting" rooms in them that were advertised during their concept sales so thats nothing really new with even one of the catterpillar module concepts they showed off years ago being a dragonfly workshop. Technically even the vulture and Reclaimer have "crafting tables" now but those two weren't advertised with it during their sales. Back then they just reffered to them as repair rooms because back then outright crafting wasn't planned to be in the game, even though the Carrack has literal 3d printers in there. As for bases, they have already said that there will be basically cargo level base building for small bases which wouldn't require specialised ships/modules, vehicles for up to medium bases, the galaxy basebuilding module for up to large and the pioneer for up to xl bases so plenty of options for anything between solo players and big orgs.

    I'm really worried if they can push the performance of the servers up with server meshing split. Notice how we already have split many services from the old servers, like shops, asops, inventory etc. And despite having those separate now, we do not see even one server FPS as the lowest standard now. Before the split server FPS was as low as 4 and now guess what, it's still as low as 4 FPS. How is that possible?

    simplest crafting things are crafted items are after market parts. Insurance pays for things through primary companies and the companies in star citizen have been selling civilian versions of ships. players able to craft higher grade parts or overclocking existing parts would be aftermarket and not covered in insurance and im sure most parts will degrade over time either way. partially why i am starting to consider placing part of my ship gameplan to things that use industrial parts to conserve my military grade components.

  • @Noskavian
    @NoskavianАй бұрын

    A long long time ago, they talked about insurance. The 3 they had planned were Hull Insurance, Upgrade/Component Insurance, and Cargo Insurance. LTI was/is planned to only apply to Hull Insurance. If I remember correctly they planned to have Insurance tied to Security level too. So like the price of Insurance would be cheapest if you only want High Sec coverage but get a bit costly with coverage down to say Low Sec. I Think no insurance would cover Null sec except maybe Hull Insurance. But if the ship was destroyed outside of the hull insurance coverage you can still claim it back but pay a penalty for being out side of the coverage scope or something like that. Same thing if your insurance lapses you can renew the insurance and pay a penalty and get it back.

  • @Noskavian

    @Noskavian

  • @ephalanx1

    For meshing, I think they are sticking with 100 per server, BUT you may have more servers per system. 100 per and most likely a server or two per landing zone being highly dependent on AI density. It really will be teased out based on the entity count. Maybe this would get you 200-400 per system, 400-800 for Pyro and Stanton. 400 per system is 3x more than we have now. That will be a huge difference. Server costs are not cheap so they do not want to have to pay for 10+ servers per shard. Also I don't understand why one feels we need to have constant interaction to be fun. This is not WoW or other MMO's. This is the vastness of space. It may actually be detrimental with players playing the game like Sea of Thieves, or other MMO's. Going to be an issue with players holding up hangers and more. Also the assumption is that SC will have the player base volume to warrant the server costs.

I’m not a solo player having solo cope, I play with groups, but I’ve seen time after time games die due to not catering to the solo player base, they are the larger player base. Of course they can’t expect to solo everything, but if at least those needs aren’t met after engineering, solo players will just find a new game

But before leaving 4.x, It would have to be it finalized, i.e: each planet has its own server, each planet area has its own server and all the space between has its own server. So crusader is 1, yela, daymar, celin, seraphim, and all the space in the crusader system except the planet crusader itself is another system, and all the space around planet systems is another, so cru-l1 mic-l2 or the aren't? Crafted components must not be lost on vehicle death because these customizations are what attaches the human player to their vehicles and to the game. Why? Despite the highly customizable avatar appearances, players can't attach to them because they have perma-death. This leaves only their favorite vehicles left for attachment. The attachment is necessary for player retention and for the player to feel invested in something. As of right now, without the rare crafted components, there's no reason to continue playing the game beyond the first death of the spaceman.

    People keep comparing Star Citizen budgets to the budgets of game production. Star Citizen is mainly the development of a game/server engine with accompanying content generation tools. I suspect Star Citizen is going to be like Doom 3; a full-featured tech engine showcase (id Tech 4) with the intended profit being mainly from the engine licenses it leads to rather than the game itself. Id Tech 4 had stiff competition, but CIG is still ahead on the network side. The main issue I see is how the planet population tools compare to those for Unreal Engine made by both in-house and its large developer community. So, how much does it cost to make a state of the art game engine?

    I think you might be harboring unrealistic expectations about 4.0. IMO even if it's a shard with only two servers, one for Pyro and one for Stanton with a jump gate seamlessly connecting the two of them, that qualifies as 4.0. Anything more than that would be appreciated, but isn't necessary. I also feel like comparisons to 3.0 are missing the mark a bit. Server meshing, Pyro, jump gates, etc. conversations have become some saturated that we don't feel anticipation for them any more, and instead we're asking, "Okay, but what else is there?". While I understand that mentality, I think it's causing us to forget how monumental it will be to have those pieces of the game actually in LIVE and working.

    I don't think missiles should get less realistic. They should get more realistic. Without atmosphere they should be limited in range only by the sensors but need more fuel to maneuver. In atmosphere they have an easyer time maneuvering but have to fight back against air resistance thus burning fuel the whole time. Maybe have some fire and forget missiles that display a warning for the whole time and some fox 3 type missiles that don't alert the target until they are close but you have to keep the lock.

    I honestly really don't care about the player count once static server meshing goes live and I really hope they don't push it right to the limit again so that everything ends up were we are right now again, I just want to have (working) NPCs actually populate the servers finally as CIG has always claimed they would eventually be basically 90% of the server population. Even if they doubled or trippled the player count the world would still feel pretty much empty outside of LZs or hotspots like GH, JT etc. People like Summit wouldn't be bored to death from waiting an hour for a single player to get pulled out of QT if they could pull out NPCs much more frequently and industrial/cargo oriented players wouldn't always have to be loot pinatas for pirates so they can get any of their gameplay fix, while also finally having some pressure by AI pirates put on solo miners/haulers as well, which could revive combat/assist beacons and mercenary missions as well.

    ENGINEERING: imo I think stock components should have the most resilience, but least performance, so that the players who DON'T want to play engineering are not as impacted by the engineering mechanic. But players who want to play engineering, can upgrade their components to be much better, and since they are already swapping components, they will be able to repair and replace them as a reward for that better performance. Forcing players who don't want to play engineering, to do engineering, is a very bad idea and bad game design.

    The argument regarding military ships is the same as mining or cargo…leverage numbers (escorts). So “more” lesser ships could overcome any one F7A. Not everyone needs a trophy. It’s not just US military, any military should be more powerful than its civilian competitors. Otherwise why even bother making a big deal about a ship, and having a 5 week event is meaningless if it’s too similar to anything else. If something more powerful comes along that’s fine, I would not ask to make the new ship weaker or the old ship stronger. From reading the comments and Spectrum I hear influencers crying more than anyone else. Also, didn’t A1 just put out a vid disproving how “god like” this ship is? I hope CIG keeps things behind gates. There are still things I’m not able to get to, but it gives me a reason to work towards something.

    Easy solution for ship crafting: You can't craft a ship without blueprint. You earn blueprint of particular ship only if You buy it in pledge stor or in game, ant then You can even buy an insurance for crafted ship, and even sell crafted ship for other player, but crafted ships does not provide blueprint. Then we can think about engineering skill. Only skilled engineers will build better ships than base ones. This will connect also to facilities, resources and so on, so If You want to build a ship You need proper base with workshop and hangar, so building ships from scratch will be come an engame. Players without proper base still can buy Basic ships and upgrade them in personal hangars adding better components, maybe tuning up thrusters, painting, upgradeing other stuff like capacitors, maybe even hardpoints.

    yea, though ship crafting for complex ships should be complex but it isnt a skilltree thing but an actual player skill thing and maybe (like in real life) if a part is not the very same as another you need to tune them slightly differently for the same results (think of the mining gadgets, maybe in a similar way)

    Insurance on crafted ships SHOULD be a thing, but there should be a baseline quality of the crafted ship to insure it. If a ship made from a blueprint (and blueprints should be earnable via rep through a faction, instead of a pledge/bought in game) comes in too far under or over a certain "quality" after production, it can't be insured. If it's too crappy, it's just an utter mess and insurance doesn't want to touch it. If it's too much better than the baseline purchasable option, insurance doesn't want to handle sourcing the high-quality replacement materials. This would give crafters a reason to make a good product to sell it, but also make the REALLY good quality ones that you feel risk, taking out of the hangar.

    Honestly entire Xenothreat questline so far was a garbage. Starting with 3/3, 5/5 repetitions - it is same as "kill those 30 boars", like 5 is not enough to capture the moment. And the bugs,... gosh, I did Priority Targets 15 times instead of 5 because damm tigerclaw did not spawn, or spawn somethere in the walls of HH. Incursions 10 times because of lost ships, those damm boxes all around Pyro-station and players with deperate faces doing squats in Admin's office I'll remember forever. CIG could implement kicking move for character, players would practise soccer with boxes. I've read chat at PTU what's going on at Pyro. Didn't even come there. Tested Firebeard on those who thought it was nerfed.

    Ok here's some Copium.... We don't want levels or skills right? But why not for crafting? Ship building lvl1... You can make ship frames including light fighters. Ship Building lvl2.. You can create ship hulls Up to the point where you can make a full ship.... After that, you specialise in Light fighter... Heavy Fighter and each Frame you make has more HP than the last... Each full has better armour etc. All of the early frames you make are stock... And you just sell them on to level up you crafting skills or send them to the Org to make one use ships... Even if it's the blueprint levels up? Each time used, the process gets better.... Sale of BPs is restricted by Rep... Outsourcing Ship frames to rookie crafter... Oh man..> I need to lie down.... This is too much

    Simple solution for the ship crafting - Ships are crafted at a baseline. It's improved components that make them better. You can buy a ship from a crafter, maybe for less than what it costs at New Deal. That makes the crafter money, that gets you a discount. However, you buy crafted components, and when they're fully blown up/not repaired? They're dead. You have to replace them. And you have to get a crafter to make new, also good ones. That keeps the economy moving. Stuff like Croncy said - 3% extra capacitor, 5% extra shield HP, etc? Those can all be handled on a component level. The ship market persists due to the possible discount, or maybe someone having a blueprint for a ship that is scarce (if they ever implement a supply situation for those ships), but the real improvements come from what you put IN that ship.

    missiles should be buffed and balanced with price!!! real life missiles are i win buttons but our military will seek cheaper resolutions to dealing with a target. as i was battlefield tactician and i can make my own calls when using artillery or smaller arms but the bigger the boom the higher the rank you need to use it!!!! and the higher rank it takes the longer it takes to get approval.... and approval is based on funding!!!!! if we didnt have a budget we wouldnt need a maned military!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we can use big booms to solve all our issues lol.... when i approved small arms it was for smaller softer targets when we used our smallest missiles it was an i win button our targets dont exist anymore! this game is supposed to be SIM based so we should have far more deadly missiles but they should cost millions like you you be able to buy 2 titans for the price of 1 size 9 missile if your a single player and you cant afford missiles then get better or make better decisions.... we need missiles to be a decision that should not be made lightly! they all should be fast they all should be very accurate there should be a way to rid of them but what they should not be is super cheap and non effective.. just look at avenger 1 and his entire corp think missiles are a joke and prefer to fly ships that gun because they can make guns work!!!! and pilot well enough that 99.99999% of missiles will never hit their ships as a military tactician and watching technology advance the US military i can say with almost certainty that lasers will be just about the only weapon of the 900 year future as missles and bombs get rendered useless to lasers being effective as killing other weapon types at speed of light. i know there are ignorant opinions that feel otherwise but im a subject matter expert trying to help CIG have an easier time balancing the SIM

    There is no speculation on the basics. Read what they wrote, "Reworking the Transit System used for TRAMS and ELEVATORS to be compatible with SERVER MESHING as well as generally more robust" This means that TRAMS and ELEVATORS will be the transition points between servers, otherwise they are working just fine without server meshing. So if they were not going to be the transition points, then they wouldn't need to be made compatible with server meshing. So areas that are separated by trams and elevators can be split off into their own server if needed. I'm supposing (yes, here I am speculating) that trams and elevators they will be the smallest unit of meshing for 4.x and might be further worked down to the door level, it's unlikely that you need more than 100-200 players in one 'area' at this point in the game's path. For 4.0 it will be STATIC server meshing, meaning they will just manually allocate servers for planets/space/moons. So maybe 20 servers per 'shard' to start with. That would give 2000 players per shard (max players, and under max load, so probably not very playable). It would be amazing if they can actually acheive that for 4.0, with DYNAMIC Server Meshing to follow in a 4.x patch, which means the server will dynamicly split off more servers for smaller sections as they fill up with players, and also shut down unused servers, kind of 'recombine' an area back into less servers as the players leave/logoff. Really hoping they can hit the target with this one.

    1:07:52 I really don't like you taking this pot shot at Elite Dangerous. The implication here is that Star Citizen _isn't_ boring after 3 hours. These things are totally subjective and I'd really rather you respect what Elite Dangerous has been able to do and what the games can learn from each other. While it may be boring to you it is definitely not for a lot of people as it has been, and still is, an extremely successful game. I have still been unable to get my friends to stick around to play Star Citizen while I've been able to spend hundreds of hours with them in Elite. I don't want to see you guys get stuck in this bubble where your glasses are too rose-tinted towards SC to the point where you're unable to look at the project from an outside perspective and relate to the broader gaming audience.

    video games are not meant to balanced . Balance is boring - you would be complaining if it was. The game is constantly changing, there should never be a complete balance - there are too many different items to even expect this . Everything should always be in flux and the variety is a good thing. There would be no progression if things were. Things are constantly improving. When things improve other things should become obsolete and left behind. If you want to balance. make everything in game ' THE SAME '. It will be much like a bunch of race cars at an event, 4 brands racing the same car, with the same engines and drive lines, which have have different fibre glass shells to make the aesthetics different. you guys sound like winer's carrying on about the exclusivity. I feel like everyone just gets on the META train, YOU don't need meta items to kill . If i kill you with the meta gun its the same as if i kill you with non meta guns - your dead you don't need a meta. It was almost impossible for myself to do the xeno missions with master modes to obtain an f7a token, having only returned 8 days ago from 6 years break. I achieved it with considerable effort and sacrificing my time, getting involved, making friends and helping others. I did it in 8 days with no sleep and alot of disappointments due to constant bugged servers and random event. WHY SHOULD someone who hasn't put the effort in, have access to the same ship without making some sort of effort or sacrifice themselves. So i don't think the F7a should be available to buy at all - It should be an exclusive item to those players willing to do the work. It was/is available to all players. players who put in effort through content like it has been implemented.I don't think it should be balanced down to appease the mob. sure fix the bug. but military is military. civilian is civilian. and in my real life experience miiltary stuff is very industrial in strength . not in the agricultural sense where its just slapped together and works. military is purposeful - no gloss - full function, well built, durable and exceeds the capability and specifications of anything civilians have access to. provided it is maintained, the nature of military hardware reliability however is generally temperamental due to HIGH maintenance requirements. those maintenance requirements generally exceed the ability and resources of the average person. anyway enjoyed your podcast . cheers {edit for spelling corrections}
