My big gripe with Overdrive is that they could easily have added smaller rewards like Armour and Weapons to your hangar collection! Stuff that you can't lose, and is tangible to everyone! But they force us to buy a pretty expensive ship to really have the reward. It's great that we can loot the special armour, but we can still lose it, and that upsets me. I would've been 100 times happier if they added an armour set and a gun and maybe even a stupid hangar flair. Then I would be happy with this!

Definitely a modern game. But they should rename the store *OnlyShips* and offer more teaser pics of ships (with the big weapons censored out with emojis) and limited time offers for the true fans.

Star Citizen is basically this situation: If your friend invited you to their house saying "it's a party, come join us!" and you went over there bringing snacks and drinks, but then there's not much going on, just your friend preparing for the party, and asking you to just chill on sofa while they get stuff ready. And you keep asking once each hour "when's the party starting?" but your friend says "soon". And so hours go by and you go to sleep on that couch. Days go by like this, you're on that couch, and your friend keeps promising the party "starts soon". You sometimes go to the store to buy more snacks and drinks, which you and your friend share. At some point, you ask yourself "why am I living on my friends couch still? I could do something much better right now". And indeed you could be doing something much better. That's what Star Citizen is. There's no party yet, guys. But your "friend" CIG will keep ensuring you that it is, and you can choose whether to chill on that couch and pay for snacks to pass the time, or get up and leave the house, and come back when/if the party starts

1.0 = Everything they ever sold is in-game along with its fully polished gameplay, even if it's tier1 level gameloops. Add more things and flesh things out later, but bare minimum is delivering the specific things they've taken money for.

That's an extremely long list when one digs in to all the things they've advertised while taking money. Going back to the original kickstarter the features that got me in were SQ42 WITH the drop-in drop-out campaign, with modding support and dedicated servers. I also thought the game being built from the ground up for VR was cool, I had an Oculus even if I don't anymore. Since then they've confirmed they're no longer working on end to end VR support, while the coop campaign has allegedly been reduced to a few missions. Meanwhile the modding support for the dedicated servers was sold until October 2023 but now it's a dead link, so there's a risk that two more sold features have evaporated even as they've raised something over 13x more money than they said they'd need to do all the things they said they'd do when taking the money.

They sold the Herald, MSR and Raven on the idea of datarunning so datarunning needs to be part of 1.0. Same goes for Pioneer/basebuilding, Endeavour/agriculture, etc. No exceptions.

this is an impossible ask, they won't even have all the ships done for YEARS, much less all the other things they've promised. I want them to get to 1.0 so they can start selling the game instead of just relying on ship sales alone to fund the project. I hope they just push ahead and release it soon. They can continue to work on things as they go.

@@Nitrox_909 They say a lot of things. They said they were going to do a serious push on VR support next year... referring to 2016. They didn't. Meanwhile if you check out the new UI on EPTU it's all flat cards - things that won't work for VR so yet something else that would need a rework if they were serious about VR support. Right now the game is in this weird middle where we have a lot of rendered in-universe UI elements that are there to support VR yet they're blurry and hard to use for non-VR users, yet there's still a lot of stuff that won't work for VR in there. It's the worst of both worlds.

I'll admit I've got 20 grand in the game still , I told my 30 grand account , I played during last event the hornet thing for the first time in a year and it's almost playable , the npcs weren't in walls , desync wasn't as bad on full servers , I was impressed , turbine really stepped their game up , after they took over development things are coming together . The ship sales are a joke , they still say get this now then resale it for months , they don't know groceries went from 100 a week to 400 a week or health and auto insurance went up 3x last year cause "the price of cars rose " I returned everything I bought last year and sold 1 account for a little more than I had in it , and canceled my sub and haven't bought anything else , I'm not planning on buying anything else in the game they stated this was not gonna be eve online and it is turning out to be eve with fps , they broke scope , plus the gay pride esg dei crap is just getting annoying , I've whined about it for 10 yrs and it's time to whine with my wallet . It is improving though for sure .

13:16 If they do a roadmap, it really shouldn't be much more then what Croncy says here. These are the features we want in a 1.0 release. WITH NO DATES. We all know it's gonna take longer then they want. But, to get an idea of the feature sets, that's something they had better have by this point. Enough foundations should be put down now and enough basic gameplay established that they should be,... should be.... able to determine what a 1.0 will look like.

Why have a co-host when you can do the talking all by yourself

Are those old backers Croncy talked to just huge whales? I am a Kickstarter backer and not fine with most developments towards "immersion and fidelity". When you spend 10 grand on a dream and after 11,4 years you rather go back playing X3 TC and AP, Starsector, and many smaller, cheaper and older space games, it makes you sad when reading these "letters" from CR. I am getting old and already nearly died 14 months ago. A smaller scope with less space age tech and focus on game mechanics would have been better for me. I still don't need walkable planets in my space games for myself.

For me, it's neither a game nor a store at the moment. Because I won't play it and won't buy anything anymore until it's a real MMO with several thousand players playing at the same time together and enough polished gameplay, missions and content. If it's a game for you, fine, but if it's a store for you then something is wrong.

Jmo as a newish player (my one year anniversary is coming up at invictus) I felt pretty bad when I realized I couldn't earn the token. ( I commented on a previous video covering the event and another viewer clarified for me) where is the incentive for me to play the event? If I cannot earn the token or an equally interesting reward. It's time for CIG to start appealing to players not backers.

If I must purchase the ship IRL I'm not achieving the goal of the event. The goal is to obtain the token in order to get the military variant upgrade.

A global event focusing on an upgrade token should apply to all players f7c mk2's not simply store purchased ships. Then it's an upgrade. Right now... it's buy one get one... for doing a thing.

I also bought in the game around the time LTI was supposed to end and they introduced the 300i. I don't think all the stuff people are doing to get LTI is really that bad, there's always LTI tokens for sale, and if anything it's teaching them about CCUs the best way to get discounts on ships. :P I also don't care and hope that LTI will be be a nothing burger but it kind of sucks when we don't really know how it's going to work and you introduce new players to the game who hear about it and immediately get concerned.

Croncy is wrong on this one re: the reward for the Overdrive event. You can argue that P2W isn't an issue, or not applicable in this case, or that the reward is driving people from the actual game to the RSI store, etc., etc. However, the way I'm looking at this reward, is that it's not relevant to the majority of the player base. A coupon to upgrade an F7C? What about the people who a) cannot afford to buy an F7C, b) don't even want an F7C/F7A? Where's their reward from participating in the event? As you guys pointed out, anything that doesn't go in our hangars is meaningless at this point, due to being alpha, future wipes, etc. How hard would it have been for CIG to offer a commemorative item, e.g. hangar flair, alongside an F7A coupon? It's baffling to me how often CIG puts their fucking foot in their mouths, and snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. As you said, NO REWARD would have been better, and produced less outrage.

TIme stamps and so on would be great, part of the conversation is like watching paint dry

This is why Star Citizen should be a paid subscription model, no shop, no pay to win, just subscription based.

Star citizen is a live service GAME the same way WoW is or EvE Just it’s development stage and overall goals are completely new. Needing completely new tech and server dynamics that other games just don’t have. Being someone who plays somewhat regularly over the last 3 years I’ve experienced the pitfalls and successes of what’s available now. It’s hard to explain the game and how it’s been developing but it’s worth it to understand because it can have major implications to games from other developers in the future

I do want a roadmap (though really I want a plan and schedule) to get to 1.0, not just the next quarter like we have now. I want the scope, schedule and resource plan of 1.0 to all align and be realistic, and funding not be spent on nice-to-haves before the core gameplay is solid. I find it unprofessional and insulting for CIG to not even provide an indicative release date to backers, as if taking for granted backers funding and patience as infinite. I want these things because CIG have lost my trust and I do not believe there is (or was) a realistic plan to get to 1.0, not until it’s been presented to people that will actually hold them accountable for delivering it - people that can choose whether or not to give CIG more money that they need. I do trust RT when he says that there is (or will be) a realistic plan for 1.0. However, I should fully expect the important parts of that plan, scope and schedule, to be shared with backers for review, before CIG asks anyone to put any more money into this project (, ha! I wish).

All games are a store now especially if its a LIVE SERVICE Game anything from skins to time savers to straight up POWER/p2W we are here and have been for more then 15 years now.

I expect marginal performance gains, even for planet and moon boundaries for server meshing. Each server could still have a high player count, and those players could still be sufficiently spread out enough that the server OCS is overloaded like we see in the liver servers now. Not until individual landing zones and areas are server meshed do I expect to see any major performance improvements.

I thought this game was meant to be "the return of decent old space sims" instead it's morphed into the worst of the worst pay to win microtransaction, subscription model, modern day bs that we were all tired of back in 2012.

The return of old decent space sims should be Squadron 42 if we are to believe CR that it's feature complete and soon to be released. SC is more of what you are saying but also the forgotten cash cow that was always on the back burner, always promising more than they can deliver. In any case here is hoping SQ 42 is actually good and not some glorified lame ass spaceship shooter with hours of fancy cinematic GCs.

This is what happens when you fund your game with nothing but ship sales from players.

The reward could have been absolutely amazing. Like this could have been the "legendary item". The first part of the quest could of been to earn the F7C. (If you missed the first part you could always buy it) and then completing the entire quest line would get you the upgrade to the "legendary" F7A.

How is this different to pirate sworn, I would like to see the upgraded turret given to players who completed the mission.

Here's the laugh though. Everyone will bitch. But everyone will still log on, get the reward, and buy the ship. That will make it a marketing success.

I dunno man, I'm playing helldivers 2. I'm not going to bother booting this game up just to log in and struggle to do a quest that only gives me the option to buy a thing.... I've got better things to do with my time and if the F8C Lightning is any indicator, there will be plenty of opportunities to get this later.

Even with waiting, it is still P2W. Those people would have an advantage over you from putting money into the store.

43:27 I think the disconnect here is that, It seems the teams making the mission, and the people who are in charge of marketing, are not the same. Those we know, vs. those we do not. Who are the the people who come up with these marketing ideas? Market guy gonna do what market guy gonna do, but, What's the thinking? Now, Chris is obviously the one we need to charged this with, because he should be the one approving this, much of of the other devs are just getting mandates to do this work? But who's issuing these? That is a black box, and even if the Devs don't want pay to win, there seems to be something else at work, and Chris is the only one with a handle into that world. This needs to be understood better.

At this point, definitely a store. A good idea poorly implemented due to lack of focus and scope creep. It seems new features take precedence over a quality product, new features meant to entice old players to continue to spend real money while bringing in new players with promises of an impending baseline release. There are bugs that have persisted in frustrating players for literally years.

Ironically I'll bug report and try to provide valuable feed back in other games but not Star Citizen. ...Maybe it's just because there is too much broken, or it's too much to isolate why something is broken, or CIG already knows most things are broken and don't really care yet (just not priority), or the only way your input is at all useful is if it becomes the most upvoted on spectrum, etc. How many things are broken just because the tech isn't there yet or because the servers run at 3 fps. The other games that I participate in NDA'ed tests for will release super buggy builds but it's pretty impressive to see how cleaned up they become before going live. In star citizen it's just pretty hard to know what's a priority and what isn't or what's know and they just have no clue how to fix it yet.

Hell Divers 2 has the right idea for live content service. Where you are given orders in-game. Example: The major order was to go and liberate a Mech Factory. Then when completed after the entire community rallies to take over you get a message that Mechs are being produced. All are in game. No developers are telling you this. Then when completed everyone gets a Mech for like a week for free to test and play with it before it becomes an unlockable stratagem. I dont want to read the website... i want to play, explore, experience and discover the world you CIG have created! Please.... if you read this... make it happen. Good luck developers... and marketing... stay away from this aspect of the game. Sell ships... dont sell gameplay. Thank you! 😊

But at some point you can buy, in game, the Civil Hornet and use your free token… You don’t need to spend money for this event if you don’t want to…

remeber CIGs actions are based on your FAITH and BELIEF in their abilitites to give you what you asked for if they show you a concept you have to work out how they apply it first it's a weird mechanic of reality

We really need higher player count servers but currently with 100 players some times you are waiting to spawn larger ships at some stations. What happens when there are 100 ppl at Seriph alone?

This is why they're making instanced hangers. You can hang out in your hanger as long as you want, spawn any ship instantly.

About the down in one shot. Tell me how often you run with a medic everywhere, no matter the mission you do? Any kind of one shot should not exist in a mmo of SC envergure. I never call a medic, you know why? because I never, ever, had to wait less than 30 min for them to come. Players have to be bullet sponge. And what is the fuss with recoil for laser weapon? It feels good. It feels fun. There is no need for other reason for that.

11:15 Croncy needs to go back and watch old 2014/15 videos and see how similar the vision for the game is actually. The scope expanded massively after the kickstarter exploded, but it hasn't really changed that much since then.

Re the MkII: 2x S4 and 4 x S3 is going to make everything else redundant. A medium fighter shouldn't have more firepower than a gunship..............

Some people want to complain just to complain. They've said repeatedly that 4.0 was SM with ability to jump to another system and that would be the switch from Alpha to Beta. How hard is it to understand that and then keep wanting more and more when they said that was what it would take for SC to be in Beta?

@@allthatishere I'm pretty sure 4.0 will be beta and 1.0 will be release. The time in between could be 1-2 years. I'd expect that 4.0 should be out by end of the year when they expectedly announce a release date for S42, then while CIG is marketing S42, SC will be in beta till S42 releases, then that's when SC will go 1.0. Most difficult thing for them so far has been to get PES, Replication Layer split and Server Meshing. Once we're able to freely move system to system, only dev time is stopping them from releasing more systems for us to go to and on the backend scaling down Server Meshing so that servers control different areas inside of the systems. They're getting there.

SC has a free fly event a few times per year where people can download and play the game for 1 week and 24/7 there are more people watching SC gameplay live streams than all the other space games combined. SC doesnt need the commercials to do the heavy lifting when you have games like StarField, Elite, No Mans Sky, EvE and all the other space games funneling players in from those other games to the point where SC breaks its player count and funding records year over year. If this is easy to do - why cant those other games do it? .. not enough commercials?

SC as a whole is plagued with server issues - hence the development of Dynamic Server Meshing to increase the server FPS, server crash recovery - etc.. but those free fly events let people get a inside look for themselves of the good points and bad points and how their hardware handles the game - and like clockwork an absolute ton of new players that joined to check it out during the freefly buy game packages because no way they are letting the ride end. @@allthatishere

There is FAR MORE to be mad about if you signed up after 2016. They have been taking pledges for PU ships, and using them to make some other game that you do not get. If you don't care that the thing you paid for got backburnered until you finished paying for CR's vanity project, you are very generous. He isn't "silly," or "wacky." The word is "lies." CR lies. Not "mistakes" or "oopses" or "oversells" or "undercommunicates," or "misunderstands," or "dreams too hard." it's just plain old "lies for money." Even the most impatient YT creator has incentives to downplay this fact. While it is nice to get multiple perspectives, the copium is getting toxic. Why is there any respect left for this human other than nobody has found a way to fire him yet?

i did the missions but then the next day all of my completed missions say 1/5. i have done them like 8 times now, several 6/5 missions. they all say 1/5 in history

i think cryin about ship sales in a game where a game package is tied to a ship, seems silly. the whole game is a ship sale... i feel like thats the point. as a company that makes most of its money off of ships this makes sense to me CIG is goin to need alot more money to even just run all the server meshed environments compared to many other games they're over head and they're greed is really low. and in this day and age id rather give CIG all my money over many other game companies.

You know what game had ground breaking server meshing. Dual Universe. They achieved dynamic server meshing. Everyone played in the same game world/shard. At its peak was 10 of thousands of players.

Going off of what Mike was saying about being able to apply the token to the F7C down the road, if they say that it's not possible currently with this token, I think the fix would be to run the event again when the ship is then being sold in game. Then if they decide to do a similar event like this in the future for another ship, learn from this and make it so the token can be used later when the ship is sold in game.

Nobody is forcing people to buy more ships. Spend wisely if your making upgrades etc.

Two hours. Who the hell is going to watch a two hour video on discussing the hypotheticals and theoretical with this dark pit of an alpha?

"i don't buy ships or support the project, but i still want all things you guys buy" No! you want ships and goodies pay for that or wait until it is available in game. what crap message would CIG be sending? is it really pay to win, its a ship eventually available in-game, it doesnt win anything. bunch of entitled free loaders that want it all for free. because so. "i know CIG needs money, its fine" but any time cig sells something i'll sh1t on it every time because so. garbage takes.

in 2023, CIG made 117 millions from selling ships. Right now, it probably cost around 10 millions $ to maintain the current architecture without meshing. That means, 1 system 1 server. Add the replication layer to this with pods if they use something similar to k8s. Imagine having servers in hot systems for different planets and stations. The cost might easily reach 10x right now if the ccu increase. 117 millions $ won't be a enough for fix cost like salaries, studios rent, other expenses + the server and infrastructure cost. And selling more ships now seems to make the base angry more and more with CIG. Of course, Concierge want to keep buying stuff so they don't have to play the game to get them, but the game itself is based on what? Subscription is not only the most viable way to maintain a strong infrastructure, but will make it possible to stop selling jpegs.

I hear what you’re saying but sub model would kill SC. The reason the ship sales are so appealing is because it plays into the natural pride of ownership we have as people. Buying something on the pledge store feels more like you own it than ingame. I don’t see that going anywhere.

No self freaking heal their are serval orgs out their that just do medical and respond to different severs and rescue people that's all they do and their dedicated to jaut that gameplay and that will kill them and some player base I literally just play for medical stuff I do nothing else in game it is a career path and that would make it not a career path anymore

It's hard to take Croncy seriously when he describes these missions as fun, every time I did the event missions the AI just stood there and did nothing. What was fun about it: Needing to group up with several other players, I finally got to crew my carrack. What wasn't fun about it: Literally everything to do with the mission, we basically stood around afk for the 10 minutes it took to do each.

Still have that question and doubt? Is Star Citizen a game or a store? Ridiculous actually!! And yes, it has always been both. 3.23 is just around the corner with lots of new things and lots of new problems so hold on tight 😅.Enjoy what we do have because we have come a long way and still nothing can match Star Citizen currently, so Chill guys.

Currently this game is basically a store, but that's because it's incredibly expensive to build everything they've decided to do and ship sales are basically their only source of revenue. People can argue until the end of time about when they should have stopped the scope creep, but it doesn't really matter now because this is where they've decided to take the game. My hope is we can get to 1.0, they can release the game, and then the game sales will fund the project, and they won't have to rely only on ship sales. Not comparable. In SC the ships aren't just cosmetic pieces, they have real influence on gameplay.

Before CiG can make Star Shitizen fun, they have to be pro-player, and so far, they have demonstrated, to me, that they simply do not care about their players. Period. Game bugs? Who cares. CiG wants your money.
