Wow, that's amazing. I think that is beyond my turning skill at the moment but I'll keep this in mind for a future project. It's a real attention getter!

Another gorgeous piece. This is still on my bucket list of things to make. Thanks for the Inspiration. I assume this was shot before you got the bandsaw?

Thank you, Michael. Yes, I made this before I got the bandsaw.
I seriously can't wait for my shop to be set up so I can try my hand at one of these. I get inspired to do it every time I see you make one. How long do you typically spend on one?

Difficult to say. I have never timed it. I could make the rings in a day, probably. Cutting, gluing and smoothing is done over several days, but there is a lot of time waiting for glue to dry.
Sorry, last question! Lol, did you finish with tung oil? And if so, did you wet sand with the oil or just several coats? Thanks

I used Formby's Tung Oil Finish on this one. It was my favourite finish. Alas, it is no longer available because it was bought out by another company. I have never wet-sanded anything. I usually sand up to 400 grit. I still prefer oil-based, wipe-on varnishes.
I wonder if you could cut out a circle without rounding the edges, just a solid circle with 90 degree edges, then route the round over so it's completely or mostly round, then finesse the edges with a dremel?

Sounds like something you should try. ;)

@@CammiesGarage picking up a 2x12 douglas fir to check it out this weekend. I have a ton of work to do, but might try getting the piece on the lathe to try. Going to try a 3/4" round over bit on all sides.

Did you ever try with the 90 degree angles?

@@mikeyandalyssab4782 no, it took a long time to heal up from a surgery. Longer than I thought it would. It's still on my to-do list.
