Cammie's Garage

Cammie's Garage

Welcome to Cammie's Garage!

A little about me: I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. Now, I live in Columbia, SC. I have been an artist and DIYer since I was a kid, helping my parents with their home improvement projects. I had a 20 year career in the animation biz as an animator, background artist and designer. Most recently, I discovered I have a passion for woodworking, especially the lathe. My channel's primary focus is wood art, with the occasional functional item, home improvement and caricature of a favourite maker.

My videos are for entertainment only. Cammie's Garage is not a how-to channel. It is a this-is-what-I-did channel. I usually make things up as I go along and do not make plans. Most of the time it works out.

I also have a sim racing channel, if you are into that. kzread.info

    My dad passed away on July 9th at 72 years old. Learning to cope with the loss and not be hard on myself has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. He loved wood working very much and left me with a bunch of tools and unfinished projects. I have decided that I am going to build him an urn. I also plan to finish his projects that he didn't get to finish. Last time I talked to him in the hospital he was excited to get home and get better so he could build things for my daughters and spend time with us this Christmas since we didn't see him much over the last 10 years. He sadly never got well enough to spend time in the workshop. We were mending a broken relationship with him. He loved Christmas time and used to dress up as Santa and hand out candy canes to people. He's deeply missed and I think building an urn for his ashes is the appropriate thing to do. My condolences to you.

    I'd be a little mad if I got my bowl back from the repair shop with a big contrasting racing stripe down the middle. I guess you have to do your wooden bowl repair shop homework. Can't just take 'em anywhere anymore.

    Yikes! The stingrays looked great. Pity the epoxy went sideways on you. I appreciate your sharing your failures, painful tho it may be--it can save others from going down that same path!

    @@CammiesGarage I've worked with epoxy once, was super-cautious with it, and came out the other side unscathed. I'm in no rush to press my luck a second time! 😅

    A garage does not make the shop, the maker makes the shop. You can work out of a closet or a rented space, but you'll always be a great maker. I'm disappointed I only recently discovered you. I hope you find a good space for your future projects and look forward to what that may be. Just please, don't stop creating.

    Just curious: Is the wood you use seasoned or unseasoned, and does it matter which kind you use?

  • @CammiesGarage
    @CammiesGarage6 ай бұрын

    When it comes to making spoons and simple things of that nature, it does not really matter. Green/wet wood is easier to carve, but can sometimes make more of a mess because of the excess moisture.
