I think she's so lovely and just a delight but she has come across phoney and try hard in the past, which has rubbed some people the wrong way. She's spoken about/semi-acknowledged that in relation to her Oscar acceptance even. Seems now that it's pretty much the result of anxiety but I think that vibe throws people a bit: there used to super-confidence bordering on arrogance from stars, the anxiousness is confusing and suspicious.

Yo Its AshTray there’s nothing wrong with choosing to do nudity in a film. If you don’t like it or don’t want your children to see that then quite simply stay away from it and keep it from your kids. Do not shame people, particularly women, for choosing to do what they wish with their bodies.

+magnetiktrak That was her way of bragging about how much money she made from that commercial "it ran for a long time" : including housing and fees, at the time year at her college cost $50,000, so Anne was letting us know she was paid $100,000+ for 1 day's work (before taxes). Her family is wealthy; her parents would have paid for college if Anne hadn't already started working as a teen. I remember that after she made the first Princess Diaries movies, every interview and article went on about how Anne was just a regular kid and college student at Vassar. Later articles kept talking about Vassar, ignoring the fact that she dropped out after 2 non-consecutive semesters, transferred to NYU's Individualized Study program (which lets actors and models show up when they feel like it) and then dropped out completely without any degree.

I'm happy people have stopped hating on Anne Hathaway.

After she accepted her Oscar rather insincerely (she stated that she pretended to be happy when she won and that she was actually miserable on stage that evening due to not fully recovering from the role of Fantine), people began to turn on her rather quickly. I thought her speech was a bit hokey but she never deserved that level of vitriol.

I'm not sure why people suddenly started hating her. I think certain celebrities just become "cool to hate" after a while. It's happening to Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lawrence right now. The backlash set in with Anne Hathaway after she bombed hosting The Oscars. But that really had nothing to do with her, though. Most of it was just because she brought that weird mannequin with her on stage.

She went through a period of overexposure where she was campaigning like a hyper, pretentious try-hard (she admits here with the Meryl story that she's prone to showing off when anxious), seemingly desperate for that Oscar, and by the time she got it audiences were a bit sick of her. But she wisely stepped back for a bit to mellow out, become a parent and it seems to have made her seem more appealing and "real" again.

simpleplanfan011 poor thing. She was so good as Fantine and is who started my obsession with Les Mis, but people need to realize how HARD it is to play roles that demand so much of you! Les Mis is a very difficult show to be a part of, physically and emotionally. (I’ve put it on with my cast) so sad people turned on her so quickly :(

She was fabulous in this interview. Her beauty, the way she told her stories so eloquently and that amazing compliment for Stephen was beautiful to watch; doesn't get better than that.

That guy in that commercial still uses it to brag at the bar. Haha!

Interesting thing to note at 6:57 : Even though she's primarily having a conversation with Colbert, she is still keenly aware of the audience reactions, as well as the lack thereof. Possibly also a side effect of social anxiety.

I love how dorky and quirky she is. She was super composed here but you can tell she was trying. I'm so glad she talked about her anxiety - people who give her grief for being dorky need to realize she's fighting her own battle and go fight theirs.

Yeah, Stephen has a bad habit of talking over his guests, particularly at the beginning of the interview (and maybe particularly the female ones??), if they don't conform to his internal timetable. Also, it didn't really happen in this one, but he's one of the worst at adapting to what guests say and having a real conversation rather than just awkwardly jumping to the next scripted question. Maybe too much practice playing a blowhard host? 😐

rachayya swamy I agree. She’s ineffable. When I see her interviews I always really feel for her because of her nerves, but there’s a sort of softness to her that’s really endearing. But she’s still funny and doesn’t take herself too seriously, and there’s evidence of a mind at work (which is sometimes hard to find for some celebs, lol). I always end up wishing I knew someone like her. Some people have a hall pass list of celebrities they’d like to have sex with, without getting in trouble from a significant other. I have a fantasy football-esque Squad list with my friends and she’s securely on my “wish I could friend” list.
