+Juan Carlos Distefano Anna Magnani was a great contribution to the world of art and entertainment. Her essay of the isolated wife in Mississippi, of all places, was a standout in cinematography. If ever an update were made, I would have preferred to see the actress, Kathryn Narducci, she of "The Sopranos" and "Artie's" frustrated wife and partner in a café enterprise, play the role. Narducci's work in "The Sopranos" was the stuff of which awards are made. I also thought Drea De Matteo's work as the ill fated "Adriana" was notable and showcased the actress' dramatic range. Truth be told, the entire cast of that riveting series was well cast. Not a poor performance in it from anyone, even those with small parts.

This is an absolute treat! Having watched the Oscar show for decades, the 1956 presentation was before my time and unknown. Brando! Charming, perfect! One of the most delightful "presenter" I have seen. Only a few years later, two of the all-time screen greats joined Brando in the strange but brilliantly acted (of course) The Fugitive Kind … Magnani and Joanne Woodward.

@@koln1996 "The Fugitive Kind" is one of my all time favourite films, but unfortunately audiences like yourself couldn't FEEL the woven emotions of Brando's ethereal & magical acting, complemented by Magnani's dramatics. What a waste of a brilliant film which didn't receive the accolades it deserved. I hate critics! They can make or break performances, films; with the American audience too lazy to watch it for themselves & make up their own minds. THEIR LOSS:)

@@michaelverbakel7632 Umm. you're going a bit too far. Dean Martin loved Jerry Lewis. Yes, they had their issues, but they made up famously on the Jerry Lewis MD Telethon thanks to Frank Sinatra. I am also aware that he got grumpy as he got older-as most do. But these Oscar clips and other clips (What's My Line, etc) of him in his prime prove how fantastic he was-- quick-witted and extremely talented. Here's a story from Peter Bogdonovich: who was just out of film school and working at a job at Paramount, in Jerry Lewis’s office in particular. Being essentially broke, he took the bus a lot and would miss meetings or be late for appointments with Jerry. One day, he apologized to Lewis, who said, “Follow me.” They got into Jerry’s Lincoln and drove to his home, with a line of Ford cars out in front. Jerry told Bogdonavich to take one, and if it needed gas or a repair, just go to the gas station on the Paramount lot and tell them it’s my car and have them deal with it. As it turned out, Jerry had an agreement with Ford for product placement in his movies, and he always had a fleet of new cars at his disposal, if he wasn’t driving his Jaguar XKE. Bogdonavich took a Ford Falcon convertible, and the next day, he thanked Jerry for using the car. Jerry then asked which car he had taken. When Bogdonavich said "Falcon convertible", Jerry jumped up and yelled, “Go back and take the Thunderbird convertible or the Mustang! Women will like those better!” And also- nobody dedicated so much time and effort to the lives of sick children as he did. Nobody is that giving without most considering him an extremely nice and big-hearted person. SO many famous stars loved him and appeared on his Telethon to help him. So whatever stories you've heard-- there are way MORE stories in the other direction.
