Here is a patient who had an ankle injury 1 week ago. I do a brief evaluation hitting the key points to identify the need for x-rays. You will see the anterior drawer test, talar tilt test and Ottawa ankle rules palpation points. This evaluation is condensed for the patient.

I can stand on my feet, but when moving ankle to the side, it causes pain I guess it’s cuz of swelling and lingaments damage. Hope it recovers in a week. How long did it take u to go back to normal?

When the ankle rolled i didn't have that much pain so i continued playing and it went well. I came home, the next day i could walk properly can fo stuff properly but when I started working out that started to hurt again, its not a severe pain tho. What should i do?

I recently experienced, imho, a severe inversion sprain at work and an MRI was performed about 3 weeks after; it was determined that the Peroneal Tendon suffered a tear. Unfortunately, the Podiatrist I’ve seen isnt as thorough in providing me with an overview of my injury as you have here. Right off the bat, at the 1:00 mark, your mentioning of following the fibula and checking for the maisonneuve fracture AND how I indicated to the Podiatrist im seeing how that region was severely tender. This injury occurred on 6/23 and I’m curious if you’ve ever done a Peroneal Tendon video? Thank You, this 5min video was more informative than the 2 visits I had at the specialists office. Currently seeking a second opinion in the mean time.

Omg thank u so much for this! I'm also 46 and about the same weight. I run, swim and walk but recently I was on vaycay at the beach and the amusement park but somewhere in between that time I hurt my ankle.(dorsal region?) I had on flip-flops on the Beach and the sand was treacherous and uneven...I also packed my old walking shoes instead of my runners by mistake and did jog intervals in my walkers..smh. I can't pinpoint where I injured it but walking down the steps is tough...walking up the steps is fine. I'm somewhat distraught because I'm probably going to have to replace my high intensity exercises with swimming and bicycling...but this video made me feel a little better. I will put on my ankle brace to keep things stable and see how it goes..

Also the side of my leg is sore and it never crossed my mind that I could have fractured or hurt that. Makes sense. Hey Paul, on Nov 5 I sprained my ankle pretty bad but I’m not sure what grade it is. I was on crutches and moved to a boot but not on a doctors order and an urgent care doctor said I should’ve been wrestling last Friday but I couldn’t even put weight on it. Some symptoms are pain while walking, pain when I bend my foot and ankle and unbearable pain bending my ankle on foot with a little bit of weight. I am doing PT but I want to know what I should do, should I get an MRI?, my ankle mobility nor pain tolerance has been better since last Wednesday, or I should see a sports doctor but they’re expensive and it’s around the holidays and I don’t want my parents to pay for it but I want to know what’s best and also want to give my coaches a clear answer of what happened.

@@ocypherowens1763 thankfully I feel a whole lot better. It's been 3 months. But I'm finally better. You need an ankle brace to support your ankle when walking so You don't roll it again. Do rehab exercises 3 times daily. Stay away from salt and added sugars as they are inflammatories. Coconut juice without sugar is an anti inflammatory for the swelling and well as apple cider vinegar. I was drinking VITACOCO brand coconut mixed with pineapple flavor juice you can find at the local grocery store. It going to require time for the ligaments to heal as they have poor blood flow. So you have to be patient for a couple months or so depending on the severity of the ankle.

There is still a slight swelling in that area but I am able to rotate my ankle in all direction without pain to an extent. How long does it normally take for complete recovery? I rolled my ankle yesterday at cheer practice. It didn’t really hurt that much right away, but about an hour later it really started hurting. Now I can barely walk or move it but it isn’t really swollen or bruised. Do you think there’s a chance that it could be broken or sprained?

I sprained my ankle 2 months ago and had my X-ray done, there was no farcture. The doctor looked at it and prescribed some meds. Since then, the swelling has gone down and, I can walk and also comfortably jog but it hurts on the fibula (especially where the peronial tendons and cfl meet, and all around the bulging part of the fibula) when I run or press the medial side of my heel to my bed or something. My foot looked exactly like the lady's in this video when I sprained it, and it is still a little swollen around the fibula and the cfl. I have tried everything. What can I do??

I had a horseback riding fall the other day. Went to the ER they said they didnt see any fractures in the ankle. There is bruising on the inside of the ankle (left food was injured) I cannot bare any weight, even laying down is very painful. They sent me home with a air splint that wasn't helping alleviate any of the pain. I have severe pain on both sides of my ankle but its worse on the inside of the ankle.

I have a sprain from...no lie. Almost ten years ago.it started to really bother me three years ago, went to physical therapy didn't really commit to exercising it. Now, it feels so weak and really bad dull pain deep inside on left (right foot) and deep front. Going to get get it checked out soon. It doesn't seem like it'd be a bone - it's been so long. But I am fed up. Only relief is when I do ( pretty intense) stretching with bands! It's like the MORE resistance the better it feels 🙆🏾😩 anything I should mention? Should I go to pcp or just right to Ortho?

Question - I sprained my ankle about 3 months ago. Thankfully my dad being a background in some medicine and has all the random medical things, was on the spot with ace wraps, knowledge of stabilizing, and even crutches. I was unable to put weight on it, rested for about 3 full days, then gradually practiced putting weight over the next days. I watched a ton of videos and thought maybe it’s a simple sprain since I didn’t see any bruising. Kept ice and elevation. Since I thought maybe a simple sprain I decided to just observe and rest instead of going to urgent care. At about 1.5 weeks or so, I realized there actually was bruising, but I figured I was healing well and it was minor since I could put some weight on it. I think by 3 weeks I was limping and ok, but with pain in the ligament spots, but also a toe. Anyway now (3 months later) I’ve been fully walking, but notice pain/aching in some spots after some walking, house work, randomly when I wake up and before bed. So … definitely more often than I expected to. If I went to get seen and an X-ray at this point, is it too late to determine damage via X-rays? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Probably you would do an MRI to see ligament damage. An X-ray is to see bone fracture which it sounds like you do not have.

I am a teacher and sprained my ankle a year ago while coming down the stairs. Xray showed no fracture but MRI showed inflammatory synovitis with mild ankle joint effusion. I had no option to quit the job at that time, so I took no rest and kept working all days. I used to get cramps and pain while standing, walking, climbing stairs and swelling by the end of the day. The injury became more serious and I had to quit the job. It's been almost 2 months now I have been resting at home. But still I can't walk properly and my ankle shows stiffness, redness, swelling and burning pain. I can climb the stairs but can't go down the stairs easily. It really hurts. The real means to heal is to soak the 🦶 foot in Epsom salt, add some CBD oil or evil bone water oil to the infected area, wrap it, compressed but make sure the rap is not too tight and finally raised it ...if you have one of those yoga round rollers raise your foot on top of that and as you're doing that start exercising your toes to go in and out to exercise it. Then seek cold laser treatment from a physical therapist or chiropractor to help heal it faster and reduce the pain and eventually keep exercising the foot.
