I've played the visual novel and watching the anime I see how rushed everything was. The visual novel was probably one of the best friggen stories I have ever played in my life though. The anime couldn't capture it.

I agree; the vn was definitely better, as you'd expect, and seeing the anime does really make you see it was rushed... of course I still enjoyed it as it was still the same characters I was watching so it certainly helped in viewing it.

I first discovered this Anime on DVD at HMV, and I noticed that some of the Characters in this Anime also appear as playable Characters and/or Support Characters in a PS3 Fighter Game I recently bought called: "Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match".

Ironically enough, Hakuro's personality was shown in the OVA. Especially his Bathroom battle with Oroboro and his guilty trip with his tsundere general. Those OVAs did the game and Hakuro justice.

Thanks for this review. I started watching the current run, and found out it was a sequel. Found the original run, but decided to just find a review. Glad I watched this as I got a sense of the back story and what may come in the current run sequel. Now I know where that fan came from, at least (Ep 2 of Itsuwari no Kamen).

I got some complaints with what you're saying. 2:48 there is a reason given why Eruru is a little cliche and clingy towards Hakouro, but that's a spoiler. 6:47 the ending is a little bland and less than it could be, but Hakouro's true backstory is one of the biggest plottwists i've ever seen. However, it isn't too far-fetched. It just makes sure you would have never expected it. 7:50 right after Hakouro is saved by Aruru, he still scolds her. By watching the anime you should also know by now that punishing someone isn't how Hakouro rolls. And earlier in this video you praised Aruru's rebellious nature. 8:00 Does.....does this really bug you. We're watching anime, remember? not a western show. 8:27 implying Hakouro had a fucking choice in this. Also, the joke is that he left with all the main female characters. On top of that, he gains help from the local rebel army.

If the next review is a special, I know I'll enjoy it.

I actually found that scene to be hysterical. Rather than make a big deal about a kidnapping, everyone, including Hakuro himself, seemed to just be thinking "Whatever, road trip!" What bothered me was the forced fight between Ellelue and Hakuro, thankfully they resolved that fairly quickly though.

a bit correction sir, when Hakuorou go to Karura Country (i forgot that country original name), he actually didn't want to go, but Karura Kidnap him, and the other girl just follow her, so he didint really "choose" them. Urutorii go because she want to help her childhood friend, Kamyu go because he want to follow Urutorii, Eruru go because she's a bit jealous with Karura, and Aruru well she just want to follow Hakuorou along, and she take Yuzuha with her (because she thinks it is a picnic), so Hakuorou didnt have any choice in here.

What is your stance on the current Moe/slice of life phase (K-ON etc...)? I hear a lot of hostility towards it, most of which is understandable. Personally I like it, but you've never analyzed a Moe show and I'm curious about what you think.

Fancy looking at the plot of skip beat, it has more character development in the first episode than many anime have in an entire season. Although it doesn't have a dub, which is sad because it might possibly be more popular outside of Japan.

I was just about to watch Utawarerumono when I watched this! XD Currently I'm at episode 5 since I haven't had the time to watch after I started watching FMA, which I just recently finished. Best experience ever.... BTW shadow will you tell me your opinion on Conqueror of Shamballa? I've recently just finished watching and am freaking speechless.

It's been ages since I've seen Conqueror of Shamballa, but I remember it being really great.

I guess I've read somewhere that proxies (non-humans; Aruru, Eruru, etc) age differently (live longer, and are stronger). Plus, it's not about Aruru, it's about the beast she can control.

Not a bad review ShadowACS. (I'll admit I watched this anime because of your top 30 anime list and while it did have some problems I still enjoyed it) So aside from the special are you ever gonna do a review of MAR? I mean I've seen some other people review it but they just don't talk about it in as much detail as you probably would

Dragon Ninja I hear that the manga had a different ending then the anime (or at least was handled differently but I don't really know). Still if you can sit through a couple of anime cliche episodes you'll be able to see the more mature themes begin to appear and change the overall perspective of the anime (in my opinion)

Ok. So here is where i stand on this review. I haven´t watched Utawarerumono, so i can´t really be as fair. But this is based on your review. It seems like you´re overestimating Hakuro. You say it like his Amnesia is what makes him interesting, but amnesia is one of the most clíche plot´s ever. And with the writing being bad, villains being bad, rushed ending, and a main character that could be better, it seems like the only good thing is the other characters. This is how i stand on your review. i enjoyed this video ;). Looking forward to this "speciel" review. And happy thanksgiving. (even though i don´t celebrate it :P)

I watched the anime, *and* played the visual novel, and I have to say, the single most damning part of the anime was that so much had to be stripped out to get it down from the length of a visual novel to a single season of an anime, and therefore so much is so obviously missing. One of the major parts of the the Main Character's personality, that is is downright ruthless, is almost stripped out in the anime. In the VN, he gets so single mindedly focused on a certain goal, that he becomes willing to do anything and everything to achieve it. It gets a single mention in the anime, but repeated mentions in the VN. He, comically enough, has a lot more personality in the VN than the anime, even though the perspective of the VN is the standard third person leaning on the second. The problam is the majority of his personality is internal in the VN, and is supposed to be elicit a very sharp contract to the rest of the cast and a more substantial connection with the player (which is tightly tied to the big reveal at the end). Most of that just does not carry in the anime. A lot of the reoccurring villian likewise just got almost all their personality and depth chopped right out in the anime. I'm not saying that to defend the anime's problems (for they are indeed problems that make the anime less interesting than if someone had figure out how to fix them), I'm saying it as the (oh so cliche) the novel was better. And speaking of cliches, the one thing I *do* want to defend is the amnesia. Yes, cliche, but also necessary for the story to work (or, more specifically, for the reveal at the end to work). Without it, the whole story just would not be the same.

Well okay. I did just say what it sounded like. And i didn´t say i doesn´t work. Just that it is very Clíche, and basing the whole plot around it is pretty dangerous. Sounds like the Anime is strongly inferiour to the VN. But that is often the case. Though i am not strong when it comes to VN´s =3. Only read Katawa Shoujo. Sorry for bad english, not from england or murica.

wow...you know what? it really, really does lol. great leader with amnesia, swords and magic, rise to power, then just a bunch of wars, small band of warriors despite having several countries allied together. Yeah, I see it. I, however, forgive the small war bands because well...not everyone has to be in the same place at the same time. And elite groups can often take on larger missions with less people.

Only saw Persona 4 the Animation, but I don't have a system that plays the real thing. I wish they would adapt it to computer already so I don't have to spend hundreds on a new system, and then 20 bucks on it.

But, from what I have seen of Persona 4...doesn't seem too related. It's not a warlords game, he grows to lead a few kids with super powers, but isn't much of a leader...and I don't think he had amnesia.

SangoProductions21 I saw the Animation before getting the PS Vita version and it is worth it in my opinion. Sorry I didn't clarify, what I meant was that Yu is similar to Hakuoro in the fact he has more character then in there games that and Yu might as well have amnesia because we learn little of his past.

Ok to be fair with that sabotage mission Hakuro was taken against his will and did not have the choice of who he is bringing along

Over the top villains are fine if they are used as smaller threats to fill time or as backup to a bigger villain. You don't want to have an extremely bizarre/comic character as one of your main antagonists, otherwise your show will lose credibility, since your villain has few credibility. But it can always be one of those cases where it's so bad it's actually good. Happy thanksgiving.

Can you please review Hellsing Ultimate I know you said you won't watch Hellsing but Hellsing Ultimate is a masterpiece with a great story but it does have a ton blood and gore but it is great with epic action and underlying messages and subtly

I will watch this. I'm interested mainly because the main character has a fan for a weapon(5:48) I literally shrieked... Call me 'baka', but the fan wielding is awesome.

Maria Bacalso cant blame ya for your excitement. And let me tell ya, you won't be disappointed, the way he uses his weapon is really cool and well animated in most cases. Though considering how late I am you've probably already seen it lol

I'm rewatching this and just have to recommend that you play the 3 utawarerumono games, "Utawarerumono prelude to the fallen" is a rework of the first old game but in my honest opinion, despite LOVING the anime of utawarerumono, I found the sequel games were MUCH better (the sequel anime didn't live up to the games, hard to squeeze in 50+ hrs from VN into an anime). Both of the sequel games, "Utawarerumono mask of deception" and "Utawarerumono mask of truth" were both amazing games to me. And now both of them are even on steam. The sequels do start in a similar manner with a guy that has lost his memory, however the characters are really well made just as in the first game / anime.

villains need to have at least something that shows how much of a threat they are otherwise they are as beatable as regular fodder .

you should try the anime stiens gate its really good and has the same twists and turns style in death note and code geass so you would probably love it to bits

You should review Shakugan No Shana.

You should review Hellsing Ultimate. It has awesome plot and great characters. If not a bit bloody. Also if you do review it make sure it's ultimate the original is far less exciting and graphic.

I personally watched this anime and the ending just did not make any sense to me, it started out amazing and I loved it! But getting closer to the end made it weirder and weirder and just left me unsatisfied at the end. womp.

Let me guess, the next review is Full Metal Alchemist. I hope that this comment doesn't change the anime you review next, but if it truly was, I fucking called it.

austin cameron Actually I can see why he did. I love this series, but it's not exactly one I would say was on my favorites list.

The only problem I really had with the show, was the Karla arc. Karla by herself isn't a bad character, but the story about her homeland and her brother and the creepy emperor who was obsessed with her......this was all just really weak. And I have to agree that the team choice that they had for the infaltrasion mission was just.....stupid.

I personally love the show, but the parts that get really annoying in the English dub are when they start having conversations about the different gods, clans, and kingdoms, where the various names and terms were, at least for me, really hard to keep up with and be able to understand what they were talking about without putting the subs on.

Ya and pretty much Persona 4 did it better when they made the main character more having of a personality.

this is one of the few shows i was unable to finish it was extremely boring. i hate the dude with the ugly mask... the 3d battles are cheese i would of rather it been a romance based around the girls with the furry ears

My least favorite character was Kamiu. Her whole existence other than the last arc was grading to sit through. Her dub voice is awful also. lol
