Hi Doug. Great video and thanks so much for the intro to JustMacros with your scripts. Running it on the Mac (from Windows via VMWare Fusion) connected to the ATEM Extreme just fine. Then connected to Companion and Streamdeck with some success. Beyond the basic functionality you described in terms of cycling through layouts and applying I couldn't get Companion to store a selected layout as a preset to recall on demand. Gave up. I'm not clever enough obviously! Keep the videos coming. I still enjoy watching other people be much cleverer than me!

On X-Keys you can press multiple buttons at a time, like you would do with a Shift key. That makes it easy to have buttons be multi-purpose, such as having a SHIFT+press to store a preset, and pressing without Shift to recall it. Companion doesn't do this, so it doesn't make sense to have a store preset button. I recommend using the RecallLayoutByID script with Companion to address the specific layout you want to use rather than using presets.

Hi Doug, thanks so much for this detailed information on how to setup your SS Scripts. Just two questions: #1 How would I change the layout number that is used for the "Quick 2 Box" layout script - let's say I want a cropped 2 Box like layout 24? #2 How would I setup a button on XKeys that switches to a specific layout and does a transition if SS is on PGM? I know I can store some Presets but what about a "fixed" button that always recalls a specific layout? Thanks again!

No. The ATEM Mini Pro doesn't have the SuperSource feature.

This video is greatly appreciated. I have been using the regular mini. With your macro are you able to have a feed as a background and not just black screen?

Yes. That's independent of my macro scripts. Just use ATEM Software control to set the source for the background on the Art tab of the SuperSource palette page.

My software is available; you just have to read the page that the link sends you to. JustMacros is getting hard to find, though, as the website is now gone. Also, JustMacros does not work with ATEM software version 9 and newer.

The Macros built into the ATEM switcher and Software Control will not be able to trigger these transitions. You can start some of these effects manually from the Macros tab of the JustMacros software. But in some cases you may want to create dedicated macro files to access specific functionality, as is done in the sample SSPreset1, SetLayout1, SSLayoutRecall1 or SSLayoutSet1 scripts included in the download.

Consult the my included PDF for references to BitFocus Companion, as you'll use a the same function calls from Touch Portal. The URLs to call will look something like: To execute a JM script: 127.0.0.1:39812/EXECUTELUA:ScriptExecute("ScriptName"); To execute a JM function: 127.0.0.1:39812/EXECUTELUA:FunctionName(parameters);

Hello, Thanks for the video, I have one question about Atem mini pro / extreme or even the first atem mini , Can I stream in 1080p and Write to disk in 4 or 8k (The original output of the camera)?

When connected to the ATEM Minis the cameras will only output 1080p. If you want to record in 4K or 8K you'll need to record internally in the camera.

There's a small bug on line 6 of SSLayoutNext which does a -1 instead of a +1. A bigger issue for me is that the script does not scale the boxes correctly when the language settings in Windows are not set to US English (e.g. Dutch in my case). I think this is due to a numbering format issue with commas and decimal points, etc. The boxes end up being 0.07 instead of e.g. 0.8. The position of the boxes appear to be correct.

Can you use any macro-programmable keyboard for this, or is it set up for just an X-Key pad?

JustMacros by itself only talks to X-Keys controllers and MIDI devices. This can be made to work with Stream Decks using BitFocus Companion, as demonstrated in this video. There is a way to trigger these macros from other applications if they can make HTTP requests into JustMacros as well.

Would following transition be possible with supersource: From one camera showing talking head to circle PiP with head in it and on the side screen from lets say keynote presentation. All this also with an overlay with cutouts for circle pip and presentation window. Is this possible?

Sort of. But you couldn't easily transition from full-screen to a circle, and you wouldn't use the SuperSource for the PiP of the presenter, as it only does rectangles. You could create an Upstream Key using a pattern to get the circle, and start with it centered full-screen. For a smoother transition, you could start with the same source behind it so the upstream key with just the circle would be showing the same thing as the video behind it. You could then use the Flying Key feature to animate the circle from full-screen to wherever and in whatever size you want. If you did a cut or dissolve on the layer behind the USK at the same time it would give you some kind of animation. Another way would be to use a 3 or more M/E switcher, use one of the M/Es to create a full-screen layout with your talking head in a circle with a solid green background behind it. Then use another M/E to put that into a SuperSource box and do any animation on that layer, and then use another USK on the main M/E to key out the green. Not even my 2 M/E switcher could do that, though... in the case of the Blackmagic Design models you'd need either the 4 M/E Broadcast Studio or Constellation to pull that off.

Did you test runnning this on a raspberry pi 4? I only hve my MacBooks and don´t want to start installing windows on them for justmacros.

While it might technically be possible to get Windows 10 to run on a Raspberry Pi, it is far from easy to do and would be a miserable experience because JustMacros would have to run under x86 emulation. You’d be far better off picking up an old used computer from eBay or Facebook Marketplace.

How many encoders does the extreme have? I want to be able to stream at a lower bit rate, but also record at a higher bit rate, since my streaming will all be via mobile hotspot. I'm streaming baseball games, so it is 2 hours per game. That will chew up lots of data if there is only one encoder. If only one encoder, any ideas on an external encoder that I can plug into the USB port or HDMI out?

It only has one. I use the Teradek VidiU series. But there are plenty of other great options out there, like the LiveU Solo or AJA Helo. Unfortunately Blackmagic Design's own Web Presenter HD doesn't have an HDMI input.

Hey Doug, followed along with the instructions. In Justmacros I’m getting an error when using the sslayoutcycle. If i use layout next and previous I can see it loads different presets but the boxes are extremely small, only some of the split screens are looking somewhat logical. Any idea?

I’m researching how to handle this. It is certainly going to require new versions of the code. I’m looking into how function calls are handled in countries where the comma is used as a decimal separator. And I’m not finding much information online. If you temporarily change your computer’s region settings to use the period as the decimal separator that should get you going though.

The 2 M/E and 4 M/E switchers require external control of some kind. You could use the ATEM Software Control software from Blackmagic to control them from a computer, or get one of their Advanced Panels. There are many other solutions out there based on the Stream Deck, X-Keys controllers, or even MIDI controllers.

@@bennozwanenburg9318 The main view you’re seeing is coming from my 2 M/E Production Studio 4K. The output of the ATEM Mini is shown in one of the windows and you’ll notice that it doesn’t have any borders.

I desperately want this. I NEED this for my productions. I just don't think I have the technical skill to pull it off. I hope in time those of us not so technically inclined can get access to this capability.

No. JustMacros is Windows only. I haven't tried it under Darwine or Crossover... that might work, but you'd have to figure out how to install the Blackmagic ATEM software under the virtual copy of Windows as well.

Great demonstration, thank you. Would it be possible with the x-keys and the Just Macros to hit a single key and have that execute a keyboard keystroke (like the space bar, or an arrow key), and THEN execute the supersource transition? I’m trying to have the single key advance a PDF slideshow 1 slide, and then execute the transition macro. I could also use my stream deck and companion if that would work as well. Thanks!

@@djp_video Thanks Doug... I saw on the XKeys 60, that there is a “2 key button” - like literally the single button actually spans 2 buttons. Like the ENTER key on a keyboard. If I used one of those, could I run the xkeys app at the same time as the Just Macros app and then program one button to execute the Just Macros supersource transition, and the other button to execute the space bar press (being controlled by the xkeys app)... but since I have the bigger, single button that goes over the 2 actual buttons underneath, one press would trigger the just macros and the xkeys apps.... sounds like a silly need, but as a single presenter and operator of the switch, I want to automate as much as possible with as few actual presses as necessary. My ATEM mini extreme is on the way, so excited to try just macros out... thanks! .

The double wide, double height buttons are customizable with the X-Keys panels. They actually come with at least one of each, and a 2x2 if I remember right. Out of the box all buttons are singles, and then you swap in doubles if you want them. I've done that with my CUT buttons to make them easy to find and hit. And yes, you could have the two underlying buttons do different things, but I don't know how it works if you have JustMacros responding to one button and the native X-Keys macros software on the other. I've never tried that.

If you want to record the Supersource it has to be the active video source on Program. I don’t know a way to delete all macros at the same time. You may have to do it one by one.

@@djp_video I'm trying to record supersource when is active video on PROGAM but I'm getting all black when super source is on air. When I cut to other cameras or DVE, everything works fine... Any idea why?

@@mildrok This may sound ridiculous... I had problem... the fix for me was through the control software and just moving the lever. Maybe that's not your problem but I googled it and others had the same issue. Hope it helps.

You can, but you'll definitely have a sub-par experience. BitFocus Companion with a Stream Deck would be the next best, although still somewhat compromised, solution, as you can't create a SHIFT button to enable the alternate functionality of some of the features in my code. Technically any tool that can make HTTP requests could be used to trigger the scripts in JustMacros, but it becomes a lot of work to set it up.

Slow motion requires additional equipment. I use the vMix software running on a Windows PC with a DeckLink 8K Pro capture/playback card. A DeckLink Duo card would work if you’re shooting in HD.
