    different bands go for different things. Chon is more approachable in general. I actually think I like chons music more than this newest album but I love both bands.

    Chon are definitely not the same style.. Chon are mixing a lot of Math Rock in their sound, which Animals As Leaders has none.. also, AAL's Metal-roots are way more evident. Chon had some metallic demos, but overall their music is some sort of modern Math Rock/Prog Rock mix rather than something related to Metal. With that being said... I honestly prefer Exivious with the jazz/metal combo. Tymon is a ridiculously underrated guitar player that definitely gets Jazz a lot more than Tosin. For starters, he knows how to actually improvise, lol.

    rereading the initial comment I responded to, the very notion of a band being "superior" without any discussion is ridiculous. There is no such thing as superior music. More technical? More harmonic fluctuation? More of what you like? Doesn't mean superior, it means you just like it more. All bands discussed are awesome in their own rights.

    AAL _is_ superior to most bands, but *not* superior to bands of the same style. I have compiled a playlist of other Prog bands that have written great songs. I welcome you to visit my KZread page and check it out! Peace

    One of my favorite bands. Tosin Abasi is a freaking prodigy. The bass solo at 2:36, the insane breakdown at 3:16, and Tosin's absolutely mind-blowing guitar solo at 3:48. What sets his playing above other bands of this genre is that he plays with soul and heart, and you can hear it in the music. Looking forward to hearing more music from these dudes.

    Listen to the rest of the album if you haven't yet, there are some insanely heavy parts. They used a 9 string (or 8 string tuned as low as a 9) a good bit in this record it seems.

  • @absence7445

    @absence7445

    7 жыл бұрын

    I think it was their Strandbergs or Rick Toones with the extended fretboards, they tune those down to C# and, by the sounds of it, D for some songs on this album. Although they have posted videos of 9 strings, so I could be wrong.

  • @ThePerson7474

    @ThePerson7474

    7 жыл бұрын

    I think they probably did both, I know that on Private Visions of the World Tosin played a 9 string (at least on Instagram). I was thinking they would do one song tuned that low but was surprised to hear multiple, I got out my 8 string to compare to make sure I wasn't going insane lol.

    there is no "superoir" or "inferior" bands. there is the one who smashed your brain, and the one who don't. The rest is blabla. And this band leave nobody untouched.

    Chon is far more sophisticated than this. This is just a bunch of fucking exercises and lifeless scales, Chon actually has creativity and high amounts of it. I have been an AAL fan since the debut and I have to say I am not impressed with this album. Just proves more that Tosin is a poor man's Misha Manor.

    Chon? More Sophisticated than this? Chon literally use the same keys, time signatures in all their songs. Don't get me wrong, they're decent, and songs like Puddle and Dust are decent, but compared to AAL their technicality is nothing. It's just a load of 2-5-1's with distortion and guitar solos which sound the exact same laced over the top. AAL however.. Whole different story. Imo, anyway.

    i can see that. honestly i listen to both for different reasons. aal is really abstract or avant-garde as far as melody is concerned, and the melodies fracture before becoming a longer cogent statement in favor of more technical passages whereas with chon the melodiousness is just so loquacious and tends to flow continuously
