German for "shape decomposition" or Gestalt decomposition", is a type of visual agnosia and is a psychological phenomenon where delays in recognition are observed when a complex shape is stared at for a while as the shape seems to decompose into its constituting parts. In plain terms, if a subject reads or hears the same term over and over, that term ceases to have any meaning.

Holy shit, that's what this means? I have a memory of dissociative-ly staring at a toy firetruck for like 20 minutes when I was like 7 years old (heavy boredom I guess..? Haha.) and it just stopped making sense spatially/contextually as a firetruck to my brain for a couple of minutes - was just this strange red, black and white form that I stopped understanding. It's probably happened a couple of times since, but never so intensely. Never knew it was a phenomenon. Thanks for the definition!

@@will4282 ya that's from wikipedia and the 1st recorded phenomenon was a guy staring at an actual truck and it disintegrated after getting injured in the head. You can read about it from that Wiki entry.

How does staring at a funky physical shape until realizing that it's made up of many parts, have *anything* related to hearing a term over and over again til' it loses meaning?..

Saw these guys last week for the 5th time - loved the setlist and the energy was incredible, as always. I was a little bummed they didn't play this one. My favorite off of the album - hopefully next time!

I saw them perform this live last night, you felt a blast from the breakdown at 2:53 like it was like getting body slammed by music and emotions, same thing for the slow thumping part in physical education I felt a sonic boom. Seeing animals as leaders was a beautiful experience then Devin Townsend came out and kicked ass too.
