this album sounds like it's going to be a culmination of all of their previous works, but with new elements. like a totally perfect mix. this song sounds like the equivalent of standing up too fast and getting dizzy, in the best way.

They’re a band, IMO, that meticulous and purposefully evolve over small Increments. Every album builds upon each other and experiments in slight new ways. They’re foundation- even beyond just their band- is SOLID and HUGE. They just keep building upon it.

I think Animals as Leaders are way too focused on the rhythm element, most of their melodies don’t stick with me now in the same way those first 3 records do. Literally zero melodic hook for half this song which okay fine, but it is more boring because of it

@@nilssonschmillson5395 ikr, this is kind of my problem with many recent "djent" releases. I get that the sound is percussion driven for all these bands, but there just isn't enough melodic intricacy. Like the lead line is literally a single riff, a little improv solo or harmony over it wouldn't hurt

Okay this was interesting to read in relation to the title of this song - To quote Merriam-webster, "According to Greek mythology, when the peasant Gordius became king of Gordium in Phrygia, he dedicated his wagon to Jupiter and fastened its yoke to a beam with a very complex knot. Centuries later, when Alexander the Great arrived on the scene, he was told that he couldn't conquer and rule Asia unless he proved himself worthy by untying the knot. Alexander quickly solved his problem - and gained a new kingdom - by slicing the knot in half with his sword. Since then, "Gordian knot" has become a term for a difficult problem, and the phrase "cut the Gordian knot" has become a popular way to describe a neat solution for an apparently insurmountable difficulty." Damn!

You can tell by the music that these guys are inspired by far, far more than metal. They are tapping into a pool of spiritual and intellectual resources to make their music- and instead of coming off as pretentious and elitist - they are simply just *happy* and *excited* to express how much they love it all.

Supported the band by buying an AAL Parrhesia jumper and I think streaming AAL, mostly this album, probably 1,000 times. Lmao, my Tidal account shows almost played AAL 900 times last month. Lmao, I am utterly obsessed. I love Tosin and Javier, but there is something about Matt's jazz fusion background on the drums on this record that brings AAL to new heights. Saw them live in Melbourne, Australia last month. Incredible!!!!
