That red gel stuff is actually wax and it does last quite a long time. The larger paintings usually have you place the gems right next to each other so you don't see any of the background. If you do get a larger one, I don't recommend the ones with square shaped gems. They're very hard to keep straight and within the row you are supposed to keep it in. Round gems are much easier!

Even though you don't get to choose between round and square and the tool kits aren't that good, you still get them for pretty cheap and you can buy tool kits there for very cheap too!

If you're interested in low-cost but also decent to high quality diamond paintings, AliExpress has an excellent selection! Shipping takes weeks since it comes from China, but I've had good experiences with what I've ordered so far. There are great Facebook groups that discuss what AliExpress sellers are reputable. The most important thing is to read the reviews if there are any!
