In the early eighties, Marv Newland organized a collaboration between many animation artists insisting they did whatever they wanted with his design - so long as the artist ends with a clear drawing the artist after him or her can start their scene with.

This is essentially an animated exquisite corpse.
Thank you for the excellent quality upload. This short had special significance to me, because I first saw it at 10 years old. It was in a *wonderful* old theatre in New Orleans, on a huge screen, with hardly anyone in the seats. It was an animation festival, and I will never forget the effect both that, and Anijam had on me.(That manic piano intro cut through me on those giant theatre speakers) I very nearly entered into animation myself, but instead, went into other artistic avenues. Still, I have extremely fond memories of this piece, as it was an incredible piece of creativity for me to see at such a young age. I also love the concept of the collab.

I think this is the only Rocketship cartoon I've seen where it starts with someone clearing their throat.
I have no idea exactly what the hell is going on in this animation.

would also love a good res version of marv newland's sing beast sing if you have one. my mom produced it and i lost my whole rocketship reel vhs in a fire.
So how exactly was this realised? Did they come together to maake it, or was a tape sent around?

I get the impression a single drawing was sent from one animator to the next one who animated their scene up to an end point and that last drawing was sent to the next guy to do their thing.
