Well, here we have a new song from an "older" artist who refuses to simply play the hits. Ani will always be legit.

For sure. Half the show is new shit, then her favs and then a couple crowd favorites. I just saw her last night. Sounded great as always.

In a catalog of great songs, this has immediately gone to the top of the list for me. Just heard it last week! The version off her new album is even better!

That is true. Not he or she or they -- just me. I think Ani is not enthused about the idea that someone can simply "identify" as woman. After all, Ani is a 5' 2" woman who has had to deal with her pesky reproductive system that NO MAN can fully appreciate. The patriarchy exists because women exist.

3:10 That signature swipe off the open tuning fretboard followed by the "Ani Creep" foot steps. She is a hell of a guitar player.

I feel this song is insensitive, particularly to young folx. I understand that us older, wiser, established and mature adults may not feel the need to cling to labels so much anymore, but for younger ones these words are incredibly useful tools for comprehending and expressing their identities which is especially helpful during adolescence and beyond, when feeling confused and lost and finding their way in the world.

I did have this thought as well but I know Ani is not coming from a place of disrespect or disregard. I thought about it more and came up with this. As a young person who doesn't really identify with gender at all, I think the point is (and where I think gender discourse will head in the future but Ani has ALWAYS been ahead of her time) is that gender is reductive to who we are. Ani has stated that she understands how important identity is, but her message here is like don't feel boxed in because humans transcend gender. Gender identity should be respected but it really exposes NOTHING about who a person is. I feel like non binary people already feel this but I haven't seen the discourse progress that far yet. I think trans people are leading it, because we are all so much more than our gender label. Its a very radical and transcendental idea, n the discourse has not caught up to say hey, we dont need to define our gender period because we are so much more. Ani has always been ahead of the times, id encourage you to expand your mind a little bit more (I say that will all the love!!) to see what she's saying here. 💖

Beautiful! All things must needs be affirmed! We find ourselves here based upon giving material definition to things, that have things seen as apart rather than a part of. Still all things must needs be affirmed. In this age a shift, where all things are being affirmed through the "Light of Affirmation" and not our own material understanding. I see these things outside myself. I do not give them definition. The fact that they are seen is proof that all these things seen have already been defined. All these things are the greater proof of my own being. To deny them by any degree is to deny my own existence and ultimately that which presented all definition and is undefinable.
