LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Ani changed my life.
I've seen her live, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
I love Ani Difranco. She is so strong and says exactly what she wants. She is a beautiful person inside and out.
I was in a band in Fredonia, called the Jupse Sliders, I had the pleasure of opening, meeting, and talking to Ani, she is very real, and I appreciate that realness, of not giving in to corporate, and donating to the whole commercialism and socialism of "quote" "unquote" the man and the system. Ani is pure and far outreaches the standard "substance of being"
She's Brilliant! I Love Her Music!
Yes, it is a tenor guitar which, in usual form, like a tenor banjo as well as a viola or cello is tuned as: C,G,D,A.
i was lucky to get to see her in my hometown wilkes-barre this past spring.
I think the band deserves a bit of recognition, because they really got the song, without dumping a lot of stuff on top of it. Quite a remarkably "properly-stated" (instead of "overstated" or "understated") piece.
That's great, what a cool thing to share with your daughter. Kudos to you both.
BRILLANTE artista!
great band sound :) and voice and lyrics.
YOUR THE BEST ANI!!!
You speak well. What you said is true. Thank you !
So poetic - so accurate! Love this woman's thought/voice/joy!! :)
muy bueno!
Bless you Ani for being willing to stand up and to follow what is right....not be lead astray by money or power or the bullshit that we are fed each day by the media...when I have a daughter I will be introducing her to your music very early in her life.
Hearing her music, and watching her perform give me hope. Honestly, she is just essential. (Even if I disagree with her politics sometimes, and despite the fact that as a middle-aged man I am well outside of her main demographic, anybody as talented, as real, as joyful as she is gets my attention. I've seen her more than ten times live, and I suspect I'll still be going to her shows when I am 70.) Hard to write a real love song, and this is as good as they come.
I love this song, but I love it even more live.
I had the same question myself! I did a little search and understand that it is called a 'tenor guitar', which is tuned in fifths and usually is tuned the same way as a viola, cello or tenor banjo(C,G,D,A) but can also be tuned as a mandolin or violin(G,D,A,E) or be 'alternatively' tuned as well. Unfortunately, I can't give you more information than that. I found this information on Wikipedia under Tenor Guitars.
@TheBrowndawg - That is a tenor guitar. It, like the tenor banjo is a four-stringed instrument. the strings from lowest to highest are tuned the following: C, G, D, A. The viola and cello are also tuned this way.
good vibration....
yes, but when you start playing the vid , look at the right side where the discription is and clic on the i like the old layout.
Too few are making music this good these days!!!
@drtdawg07 the song is called Smiling Underneath ! cheers
She's great and she's got a point. What instrument is she playing?
@WoundedEgo Personally I really like seeing a drummer who knows about dynamics.
She got a new drummer. ? I haven't seen her in a while. :)
what song is she playing during this clip?
what a soul.....swoon
Smiling Underneath
Amopian, I do not know how old you are, but Ani is in her early 40's (as am I) and we were the kids who were the first to have the internet readily accessable, so, using your own argument, she IS correct, WE are a generations of dissillusionment. In our early years we did not have all the information so readily available...most people I know my age did not get home internet capabilities till they were well into their 20's. When the veil was removed, the dissillusionment followed.
does anyone knwo the name of this guitar?????
What does this have to do with NG?
Dang... I think we need more of that disposition. Not so much "devil-may-care", more like her...
allu got to do is take off the flip from the url
you may be right about the sea of information, but you are failing to consider that as the amount of people in the world grows, so too does the need for intelligent people to speak what they feel to be the truth. The beauty of the human mind is that it allows us to think for ourselves, which means we get to filter the information and choose what is beneficial for us. In this way we collaborate on the growth of the existing information on our planet. It is our duty to speak the truth as we see it
god, she's beautiful.
Love the song, but these spammers are confused. This would not make a good ring tone at all, lol
nice one KZread ;) April fools day.
why did she say it as if ambition's a bad thing. i disagree with her use of that word, these elected people are not only servants but also leaders. you need those leaders to lead by good example and not through shady actions and force.
I don't really like metal so I'm going to max out my volume and explore the music section or search until I find a Pantera or Lamb of God concert video on some cheap cameraphone, then make an angry comment about exterminating metal artists. That'll show 'em!
I'm going to be lost if she ever stops making music............
APRIL FOOLS
first ;]
I would have to disagree. I get annoyed at all the whining about politics too, but these lyrics are more, I think, about being happy with what we have, even though some things suck. I don't remember anything about politics in the song, correct me if I am wrong...
Geez amopian, you came back 4 days later to keep the argument going, and had to get the last pretentious words in. I can smell her patchouli through my computer.
An erudite woman. I'd rather talk to her about politics and social issues than listen to her music.
Never cared much for her. Oddly enough, it took being around people I didn't care much for to later on appreciate her. Funny world.
haha, fail
@freeorla WOW buddy! maybe you should get some help for those issues before a serial abuser breaks out. Or wait, has it already happened?! Some one sure sounds like there's some residual pent up anger lingering. Geesh! grow up already take resonsibility and stop blaming the world for your short comings. Face the facts your short comings are all your own. Sad Sad Sad.........................
