I absolutely LOVE Angie Bowie. Im currently reading her book Lipstick Legends at the moment and she is HIGHLY intelligent. Has a wide range of knowledge about the history of androgyny, drag, feminism and alternative fashion. People say she just used Bowie for success but this woman has got brains and really did actually help style and create the David Bowie everyone knows and loves. She helped design outfits, get gigs and really encouraged him to push boundaries. She helped HIM get famous.

Angela or Angie will always be a part of the life and history of David ! She got him a contract for Mercury records for Space Oddity she loved him dearly and got married to him because she needed a work permit for GB to work for DB ( she is born in Cyprus ) It was Bowie who asked her btw , nothing wrong with the happy times between 2 talented open minded young people creating the beginning of a huge change in music fashion sexuality and racism ! Duncan ( Zowie ) Jones is their son born in 1971 ( cooks of Hunky Dory " will you stay in our lovers story ) ''

I'm just an aging redneck from south GA but I KNOW music and story. She was a HIGH IQ individual with an affinity for an amalgamation of things not commonly cultivated for sure LOLOL She has a flare to be questioned for sure, but she is smart and was very good for Bowie early on. She's also entertaining as sht to listen to!!

People making very mean comments need to stop. She has health problems herself and is a very lovely woman. It's a shame that she is being perceived as a Bowie groupie. She was his wife for many years!!! Just like Freddie Mercury had a common law wife for more than six years!! These women have amazing stories to tell. Live extraordinary lives that only you could dream about. To be able to hang out and party with Warhol,Bowie,Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop all there at the same party back then was the norm. To lose both Steve Strange and Bowie in the same year is a sign of the times. Angie and David had a Polyamorous marriage. The movie Velvet Goldmine doesn't even do their relationship justice. I hope that Angie and Duncan can forge a relationship.

while I find her an interesting woman, and no doubt believe she was thrown under the bus by Bowie and his entourage, she tells a lot of stories. I do feel sorry for her , shes obviously not a well woman and never was really. theres a reason David got custody of Duncan and don't believe for a second it was because she wanted Duncan to be with his Dad, as she now says. moreover, I don't believe for a second that Duncan stopped speaking with her because she was not well off, as she has said over the years. theres a lot more to it than that. although I do hope her and her son reconcile. I think it's tragic for a child to disown a parent.

She helped him find his look and his style. She was a REAL catalyst. She was and is INTENSE and probably very reckless, regardless, she was smart as a whip and I wouldn't want her mad at me rock star or no. She loved him, she was beyond a groupie. She was a junior executive and she definitely helped Bowie find his business sense. And as far as groupie red... Having the song "Angie" by the Stones written about you, beat that... BITCHES! That song will be sang by many after they're all dead and gone. It was a work of art and she was a muse that helped it evolve, kinda amazing.

What I do respect her for though is the fact she made David happy back in the day and I will admit it made me smile when she said she wanted to remember the good stuff about David and not the bad things. (Even though it was her fault the marriage ended)

711honved You can say that again. Listen to pre Ronson songs...Folky kitschy crap. Space oddity aside, it was and is utterly forgettable music. Mick wrote riffs, guitar solos, and arranged strings. Turned his basic songs into hits and got zero credit for it pretty much.

@Shannon May, that's just your opinion really, certainly not shared by everyone. Personally I love a lot of the stuff David recorded in the 60's and don't consider it crap or forgettable at all. And it's not all 'folk music' as you seem to think, either.

  • @711honved

    @711honved

I think David's 1969 Conversation Piece is a masterpiece & folk based. There are many other fine examples of his folk stuff too. David's All The Young Dudes was quite folky & Mott The Hoople turned it into an anthem for rock n' rollers. As the folk era came to a close Mick Ronson brought his rock interpretations to David's brilliant song lyrics. Ronson lit the blue touch paper to the rise & rise of David Bowie.

  • @FRAME5RS

All I mean is, if it was so great, how come he couldn't get noticed at the time. You might enjoy it now, but apparently not too many people enjoyed it then. He was a nobody until he hooked up with Ronson and morphed into Ziggy. In fact, that was 80% of his best work. Very little if anything he did in the 80s or 90s appeals to me at all. And of course, it's an opinion. That's the beauty of art.

it seems that in Bowie's early career, Angie was so involved in aiding and directing his career.........it even irritated his manager, as she seemed to have more say than he did...............it is just my opinion, that Angie should have invested a lot of that energy in doing something for herself..............improving/learning things that would enrich her personal life............it seems that she threw so much of her energy in helping her ex-husband in his early career.................to put all that energy in someone else, I think is a shame, one should make sure that they are enriching their own personal life...........no one "owns" another person.........we only own ourselves............we can give and take guidance, but one should not throw all their energy into another..........it should be for themselves in my opinion

@@annwhite2346 Who did David brag about sleeping with because it was part of his job? Her pursuing him and seducing him when he was vulnerable after his break up was her paid job. Let's not compare apples with worms here.

David and Angie. Angie and David. Both immature. Both talented and independent. Needing validation. Both troubled. Both from from difficult backgrounds. David died a terrible death and Angie lives on estranged from her only child and her grandson. He worshipped by millions has dissed Angie as a worthless person and mother. He created an amazing life for himself but never acknowledged her part in his success. He left 150 million 100 million to Iman, 25 mil to each child and 2 million to the housekeeper nanny, whom he claims saved his life from drug addiction. Angie received 500,000 £ in their divorce. Just enough for a home of her own. I adore David Bowie, don’t particularly appreciate Angie much mainly as David speaks so harshly of her. British men of that era are hard on woman they fear or lose respect for. Or challenged by. He’s called her the most narcisstic woman he’s ever known publically. Made out she was a monster. She seems ok on this show but you know she did bring up negative behaviour he subjected her to then pretended she didn’t want to destroy his fans faith. Why mention it. Because maybe David did act unfairly. It’s the past. David cultivated his image and personas. Angie has always been herself.

Sorrow was big hit on top 40 USA in early adolescence. Fan hood for David came easily due to his brilliance. Much was hidden for a time but it’s all gone out. He intimated much, she reported much, others in their circle reported enough to draw a picture of their marriage. When he said she with thinly veiled rage, that Angie was the most narcissistic person he’d ever known with no ability to comprehend what a person going through, with barely a tiny nutshell of empathy for anyone’s suffering. That was enough for me. I can list everything I know about their meeting and it’s quite true David didn’t wish to expose the truth publicly. Angie was eager to if anyone cared about her view and experiences as his wife. He’s such a refined person she’s a rough diamond. There’s her version of events and they ring true. So do his. What can’t be denied is his gift to us. As an artist with extraordinary skills and invention. His music saved my life many times. RIP David Bowie

agreed, he was kind of selfish as he made it so she could not have a relationship with her son--and he (Duncan) has not ever moved forward --a real pity-but don't kid yourself David did have a ruthless dark side, that was unforgiving. --

I actually knew and worked with Angie back in the ‘90s and last saw her at an event in NYC in 2015. She could be and probably still is a contradiction in terms and she changes personalities. She is highly intelligent, articulate and funny - and back then she was very kind. She shared unsolicited stories of David that were quite interesting but then she spoke of him with such contempt. Mentioned to her how I saw that he was appearing as Warhol in the Basquiat film and she said with such disdain “Oh that’s a name I don’t want to hear” (meaning David). When I last saw her at event in 2015, she was cold and bitchy. I do agree with David’s comment that she had the personality of a blowtorch and I can understand why her son chooses to have nothing to do with her. Just being honest based on my first hand experience. I wish her well though.

+Wotiluv Why are YOU interested in David Bowie? You didn't even know him in person! Angie was married to him for 10 yrs and has his one and only child. you think she has no right to talk about him? But it's okay for Priscilla to talk about Elvis simply because...??? Elvis didn't leave a penny to Priscilla but to his daughter. Bowie didn't leave a penny to Angie but to his son. So, Priscilla can, but Angie can't -talk about their most iconic ex ,es?

  • @wotiluv

stella patchouli Educate yourself on the subject before responding and going off on people. Who the hell are you to question why I'm interested in an artist I've admired for years? What's it to you? I don't think the question is relevant. I dn't think it' any of your business. FYI Angie's relationship with Bowie was tenuous; she was a drug abuser and so was he; they didn't spend 10 years together. They lived apart most of their marriage. Also he took custody of the child early in their marriage; also the son till this day won't speak to her and wants nothing to do with her. All this information is public and easy to obtain. Yes Angie can talk all she wants but she has nothing new to say. It's the same old story that is one sided and no one but you is interested.
