I've been an Angel for almost 8 years now. I don't know what it is like going from 10 year old Angelina to 16 year old in a manner of minutes or hours, but I can imagine it's alot to process.

Elvis is a legend and rightly so but, in his versions of this song I never believed a word he said (although, he was entertaining). In Angelina's version, as usual, I was mesmerized by every word, every breath, and I believed it all.

I totally get the emotion this performance provoked on you. Specially if you had the Elvis version in mind, this one Angelina arranged like a balad hits you hard. Not only because you can really understand the lyrics and the story behind it, but mainly listening to the power and yet softness in her voice. And of course, the video is wonderful, Angelina's outfit, guitar and hairdo brings back all of Elvis and his wife Priscilla's style, as does the outfit of the piano player who by the way is Rob Christie, Republic Records Studio Director, music producer and creative manager.

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. I grew up listening to Elvis, and I heard this song HUNDREDS of times. Until Angelina did her version, I never actually heard the words, but with her I not only hear them, I feel them. On another note, being born in 1954 and hearing and seeing Elvis a lot, I wasn't impressed with the movie, but that's just my opinion. 😊

This song was actually written by Mark James who also wrote 3-5 of Elvis's bigger hits. Mark never liked how Elvis did his song. I'm certain he would approve of Angelina's treatment of it. In case you were wondering who Mery Zamani is that is Angelina's much, much, much beloved grandmother. Mery has been whatever Angelina needs her to be at any given time. They are inseparable. Mery was also a child prodigy as a painter and a poet growing up in Iran. Angelina is 25% Persian, 25% Japanese and 50% Scandinavian. She speaks Norwegian, English, Farsi and some Japanese. You have already heard her when she was 10 years old, although at that time she was more surprising because of her age than because of her enormous quality, it's even scary to think about what she can do at 30 years old. The pianist Rob Christie (music studio director of Republic Records distribution of UMG, two-time Grammy winner) changed the musical arrangement and Angelina changed the vocal arrangement, but she didn't change the lyrics. Angelina changes the lyrical structure starting with the bridge and gives the song a different meaning than Felton Jarvis and Mark James , Angelina version absolutely fits the lyric better. Once again, many people don't hear and understand the song until Angelina tells the story. 👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣 The producer Felton Jarvis from Elvis Presley cleverly covered this *Mark James song from 1968 in 1969* , Elvis' last #1 hit in the US and #7 of his most successful songs. Felton Jarvis took the original country arrangement completely from Mark James and pushed the song with more speed and additional instruments (wind instruments, violin etc.) and a spectacular backing choir (in the studio version).
