Angelina Jordan Sings 'I Put A Spell On You': Reaction Video

Ойын-сауық

We all know that Angelina Jordan is an incredible talent, but in this reaction video, watch her take it up a notch as she channels the greats while singing 'I Put A Spell On You'. Join me as I react to this incredible performance and share my thoughts!
I make it clear that I'm not a fan of child performers but Angelina has won me over. She seems to be very special and it's clear to me that she is channeling.
I had a similar reaction several years ago when I stumbled on Grace VanderWaal's AGT audition. A soulful voice and tons of talent bursting from a child.

She is very well protected and her AJ childhood was Sara main priority. As far as musical drive its all Angelina. Yes Jazz was played in the house but it was AJ who fell in love with it and all the old greats.

    - The Barefoot Princess - (From her book, television and radio interviews, and podcasts made between 2014-2015. Includes excerpts from her diary made that day in 2012.) Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

Angelina is a gift from heaven, and has come down to earth to be an amazing role model for how to live your life, by helping others, and inspire children to become great adults. My only analogy for me is when my grandson came into the world. He is the greatest gift my wife and I ever received, and the love this little guy has given us, makes us happier beyond our dreams. Angelina is a gift for all of us.

Angelina is channelling the original artist, Screaming Jay Hawkins, who was a pretty wild character, but she was doing it in her own unique way. It's tempting to think she must have been driven by ambitious parents, but the opposite is the case. She binge-watched people like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald on KZread and badgered her family to let her go on Norway's Got Talent, which she eventually did - and won at age 8. There's a fascinating story about why she performs barefoot, but I'll let other 'angels' tell you about that. Glad you liked the song!

Angelina Jordan is 17 years Old. She sang yesterday in Paris at the ceremony - FIFA Football Awards 2022. A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZread went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZread video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZread. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZread, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

I apologize to all those that follow Angelina's "Spell on You" reactions, but I have tirelessly played this video maybe a couple hundred times and am still dumbfounded by the performance and delighted by the shocked reactors. I cut and paste this following reply all the time now because it gets tiring typing it out so often .... so, again, I apologize, but it must be done: Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records. Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive. Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension. She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years.

Some would say she is channeling Screaming J Hawkins, the original artist, but she is channeling Ella Fitzgerald, who the said could sing the phone book, and if you remember she sang “A Tisket A Tasket”, and she also scatted which there are no words only sounds that truly made her another instrument in the band, Angelina has this talent too, they say she sounds like Billie Holliday, but she is smoother, Amy Winehouse, but she is smoother, Nina Simone, but she is smoother, Etta James, but she is smoother, Elvis, she matches but amplified, especially in the emotion department, and even Frank Sinatra, she out smooths the old smoothie himself, and all that is because she went to school on Ella Fitzgerald. Don’t take my word for it, listen to the songs like “Summertime” and you will hear it for yourself. kzread.info/dash/bejne/p2aWy8mfY5adkbg.html

Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy. She is now 17, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records almost two years ago. She is not widely promoted yet, however, as her family has decided to wait until she graduates school, so she has a normal childhood. Here is a link from ages 6 to 17 of 106 Angelina chronological KZread performances with five originals. m.kzread.info/head/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO Here is a more comprehensive playlist of 180 videos including tiktok and Instagram. kzread.info/head/PL2v8kgVeo4EbQD6l_WAVjOfItquzW7oEc Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond. Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love. kzread.info Please remember to include in your description the artist Official Channel as well as the original video, if you have not already done so. Greetings from Scotland! "Who is this child channelling?" Well that would be all the greatest Jazz singers of her Grandmothers day! Mery Zamani is a very respected Iranian artist - and one of AJ's Grandmothers! She has always had a passion for Jazz music and AJ listened to it constantly when she was with her. In 2015 (when she was 9yo, around the same time as this video) AJ published a book called "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts). Her grandmother Mery, illustrated it for AJ. The book tells the story of the 6yo AJ meeting a poor motherless girl in the Middle East who was barefoot, because she had no shoes. AJ and the girl spoke at length, and as she departed. she took off her shoes and gave them to the girl! The girl promised to pray for AJ so that she would fulfil her dream to become a successful singer. AJ says the book is based on a real story and she says this is the reason *she always performs barefoot!* She insists that she will do this until all the children of the world have shoes! It's not just a book or a story, AJ has raised tens of millions for children and families in need all over the world! Pretty special young lady eh?

Another spell was cast by 9yo Angelina. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Thank you for continuing to discover Angelina. She is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZread, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Great reaction! You may want to rethink how you feel about child performers when it comes to Angelina. Actually, though, she's a 40-year old woman in a child's body! Lol! She is absolutely amazing. Speaking of her crib, there is a video of her attempting to sing "I Will Always Love You" at EIGHTEEN months, after listening to Whitney Houston sing it! I hope you're truly reading the comments from us fans, because if you read them on your previous reaction, you should undoubtedly know the REAL REASON why Angelina never wears shoes due to an encounter she had when she was six years old. Please research that because it's extraordinarily heartwarming. She published a book when she was 9 years old about the reason, making her Norway's youngest ever published author! It's called "Between Two Hearts."

I liked your attempts at rationalizing how she came to sing so well. Other reactors could only suggest channeling, but we know that's irrational. She just always liked singing and first attempted a tiny bit of it at age 1. You may be right when you say the Mom must've surrounded her with music. That may have enhanced an innate love for music and inspired her drive to sing. Plus, she had the voice!

The term, child singer, doesn’t apply to Angelina. She’s not channeling here-this is her arrangement that respects the genre, but it’s all Angelina. Close your eyes and you have a version of this classic blues song that could be part of any anthology of American blues. Her age is irrelevant. And you’ll see as you watch more of her, she will stun you in many other genres. Her covers of Adele, for example, are rated by many hardcore Adele supporters as better than the originals. Her vocal tools are endless. I decided she was the best singer I ever heard when she was 12 with her acoustic cover of Adele’s A Million Years Ago. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g3yA1ryKY9avp6g.html No channeling at all-just an incredible, uniquely beautiful voice and interpretation of lyrics that makes you feel every word.

Though she is honouring Screaming Jay Hawkins whose picture is on the candle this is not a straight cover, it's an amalgamation of several covers. She spent a great deal of time being looked after by her grandma who is a famous poet and painter. Also a child prodigy in her own right. She liked to have jazz playing as she worked. So you are right. Angelina heard jazz from the cradle but was born with perfect pitch. There is a clip of her at age 1 and1/2, with a mike. That is really shocking. It's a clip on an interview after her audition at 7 years old on NORWAYS GOT TALENT aired.

The was a cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins’ The candle she was holding at the beginning has his face it. She was 9 years old when this was recorded. There is an wonderful story as to why she performs barefoot. She befriended a young shoeless girl, when she was six. She wrote a book, between two hearts, about the experience, and became the youngest published author in Norway’s history, at the age of nine. She gave this girl her shoes and vowed to always perform barefoot as long as there that don’t have shoes. Please note, she made her public performance debut when she was 7, by completing on Norways Got Talent. She won the event and donated the winnings the children’s charity. She is not your average talented child singer. Yes she has been exposed to many of the greats starting from the beginning of life. The earliest recording of her singing was when she was 18 months. This is her passion and she has worked very hard to perfect her craft. She is self taught, does her own arrangements, choose the songs she sings, she knows what she wants and is very courteous when directing the musicians as to what she wants. The is true whether it’s one or an orchestra. To date she has released 5 originals, all wonderful. She tuned 17, on January 10, 2023. The list goes on but these are some highlights of her approximately 10 year career. I have no question that her career will take of like a shuttle launch, shortly after she graduates high school this year. Her fans are called Angels. It sounds like after hearing this performance you will be one also, welcome to the amazing world of Angelina Jordan. Is a vast world and there is beauty at every turn. Welcome❤

Nice reaction, Jennifer. One very important thing to remember about Angelina is that she's singing because she loves to sing. She has said that singing is as important as breathing to her. Nobody is, or has been, pushing her to perform. Why does she perform barefoot? The short answer is that she does it to remind herself that there are needy children who don't have shoes. There is a longer answer in the book she got published when she was nine, making her Norway's youngest author. The book is absolutely worth reading. It brings tears to my eyes every time I reread it. A short explanation is that when she was six years old, she was in the middle east with her mother and grandmother and happened across a girl beside the street with a bathroom scale who was weighing people to get a little money from them. Angelina struck up a conversation with the girl and found out the girl was a homeless orphan who was caring for her siblings. It was cold outside and Angelina noticed the girl was barefoot and had scars on her feet. Unprompted, Angelina took off her own shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl said she would pray for Angelina every day. Angelina made a commitment to always perform barefoot until all the children in the world had shoes and clothes. She has since always performed barefoot in public. She was barefoot when she sang at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony outside in December in Norway. She has performed barefoot for several heads of state and on possibly one of the biggest stages in the world she was barefoot on America's Got Talent. A six year old made a promise and she's still honoring it at 17.

I wouldn’t say that Angelina was “channeling” here, more that she was “interpreting” Screaming Jay Hawkins. At 7 years, yeah, I’d say she was channeling Billie Holliday when she did “Gloomy Sunday”. But ever since she turned 8, Angelia became her own artist. She can made her voice do whatever she wants. Can she sound like Adele? Easily! Same with Amy Winehouse. But she adds her own soul, richness and depth that is unmistakenly “Angelina”.

As others have mentioned below, the 'barefoot' performances are not content-related. They represent a promise she made to a poor, unshod, orphan girl, to whom she gifted her shoes, that she would work to provide more shoes to all the world's children should she succeed in her dream to become a 'world famous performer'. There is an interview where she details this promise, also portrayed in the book she produced about the episode, 'Mellom tu Hjerter' (Between Two Hearts) with the TV personality, 'Anne Lindmo' which is quite sweet to behold. Miss Jordan has been honoring her promise to the orphan girl for about 10 years now already.

It's best to ignore Angelina's age when you listen to her. Some people say "at this age...", but the truth is she's perhaps the best jazz vocalist on the planet at ANY age (even here, when she was 9). No adult could sing a cover better than AJ sang this. So, with Angelina, you can relax about not liking child singers -- because she's never really been one. Regarding her bare feet: I commend you to Andy Schnell's first comment below (not the one you replied to). Angelina is not just choosing to be "grounded" while she sings; it's a reflection of her character.
