Angelina is a jazz singer at the core as is her pianist, Republic Records studio boss, Rob Christie. He is Angelina's mentor as she eases into her adult, professional career. They make a pretty good team and have provided us with some beautiful music. 😎

Nice haircut, Guy on the RIght. ;) Shivers all over me as she sings...I agree that the intimacy speaks to each individual listener---a message for those individuals to act upon.

I would like to remind once again what is special about this spectacular performance. Angelina received an invitation to this official event *"virtual visit from Crown Prince Haakon of Norway to the state of California"* , which was held in this form because of the pandemic. Angelina's live performance was part of this event via *Livestream* . Angelina's welcoming words were primarily addressed directly to the Crown Prince, those responsible and the World. 💯 *AJ* 💯 BTW, I suspect Angelina didn't choose this song for nothing. 🤗

She's just so wired for song, it's incredible. I didn't really appreciate this song when Michael sang it, but Angelina once again shifts the viewpoint and makes me see a new side of it. Great reaction.

Being audio gear heads, you've got to check out videos from O'keef Music Foundation. It's a free music academy for kids. These are extremely talented young singers and musicians. A suggestion is Tools 46 and 2 or Chain of Fools.

An intimate whispered plea for us all to love each other. A theme she continued during her recent concerts. During her introduction to her own song Million Miles at her third concert (I think) she spoke of how, even if we have lost a loved one, wherever we are we are never alone..she has such love for everyone that you can feel it in her music. She’s a special person.

You guys didn’t quite say this, but addressed it in several ways. One of Angelina’s special talents (there are so many) is her ability to connect with listeners individually. When I listen to Michael Jackson, he’s asking the world to heal. When I listen to Angelina, she’s singing to me, and her interpretation of the lyrics gives them a clarity that never gets lost behind the music. My best example is her cover of Yellow Brick Road. I heard Elton’s version hundreds of times. It was catchy pop music. The first time I heard Angelina sing it, I understood the meaning of the lyrics. Watch her incredible cover, at 12, of Adele’s “A Million Years Ago” to see how Angelina not only interprets the lyrics as if she’s lived them, but also makes you remember the missed opportunities in your own life. And like all her songs, she delivers the message with vocals that are immediately and uniquely Angelina’s alone. It’s a truly stunning performance that makes you forget the original. If I were a lyricist, I’d want Angelina to sing my song.

Nice reactions! I like to add that when it comes to covers, Angelina always likes to use voice characteristics from the original singer (which she can do extremely well), as a tribute. Michael used to break sentences down to shorter lines, even to separate words, with a lot of breathy, intimate voice effects. Just like she does here! Still she makes it her own. Very special singer!!!

no the drums are not used, the guitar is not used, there's a bass behind the camera that's not used .. just AJ and a piano .. another stripped back performance showcasing her voice.. she could be leaning across a small table in a lounge confidentially and intimately talking to you

Great reaction guys. Her pianist since joining republic records is Rob Christie two time Grammy winner and former owner robo records, currently studio director of republic records and has been featured in most of Angelina’s performances since her signing. Knowing you’re used to performing live I’m surprised you didn’t choose to do her latest performances in Norway ( Allsang pa Grenson June 30 and at Kurbadhagen July 1st , 7th and 10th 2022 ) in Kurbadhagen she’s with her old band. It’s quite clear that she’s having fun being back on stage with her band, at any rate her voice is as pure as if in a studio. At Kurbadhagen all fan made videos ( best video’s were done by Kathrine Angeltviet both in sound and visual) hope you are able to view these in the near future and give us your thoughts on her performances.

Breath control -- in a nutshell, that's what AJ has perfected. Oh, and her rasp, which brings an edge to her breathy tone. It's like you lean into her sotto voce tone, and she hits you with a raspy edge that makes you even more conscious of the content of the song. Just so superb.

To my amateur ear, Angelina just has way more (air/breath) available to her singing voice than I've ever heard before. She can do things no other singer can because of that surplus, like power with breathiness, timing of intakes to suit the poetry of lyrics, slowing songs down without losing emphasis or emotion.

This performance was very simple, that is if you consider anything AJ does as simple. There were only 2 involved, Rob Christie playing the piano, and the ethereal genius of AJ. Here she is taking us to another dimension with her STORYTELLING song, and a minute hope for world peace.

Sadly for you ‘only’ a piano but it creates a beautiful intimate setting. It was indeed a live stream within a live virtual meeting. When you look at the notes she is hitting, it is not hard. Nevertheless she makes it very interesting. But she pours in all she has and makes you feel all of it. She never goes into blast or belt here and I think the it is a great choice for the message of love and hope. Her ability to convey emotion and tell stores is maybe her musical center. She always makes me listen to the words and the story. She also remade Billie Jean in a slow cool jazz version and it was her who made me really hear the story. She has indeed a very beautiful lower register and in ‘You make me feel so young’ and in ‘How great thou art’ it really comes out. Here is a playlist of her latest concert with a nice band: both she and the band were on fire. It was a typical jazz approach with loads of room for improvisation: kzread.info/head/PLgVH9DUPH5QorN0ofzcbOYQSXXlDzyfA9

One of the notable things about this one is how she totally changes her vibrato here (especially in the very beginning) to "allude to" the way Michael would sing his ballads. ISTM that of all the things you can try to change about your singing voice, vibrato has got to be one of the most difficult aspects to alter (and keep it sounding good). But this is not a recent thing for her: she used (at least) two different "speeds" of vibrato in the "I Put a Spell on You" music video she did at 9 (noticeable in the first and second half of the word "care" when she sings "I don't ca-a-a-are if you don't want me" in the a cappella part of the song).

Very well observed Donald! You expressed my very same perception when I heard this the first time. Angelina is a 'vocal painter', she is in the whole vibe and mood of her performances but she is also in every detail using her immense toolbox of vocal techniques. Along side vibrato changes examples you provided, I would add that one from the winning unforgettable performance at NGT of Summertime by Ella. That vibrato was KILLER and she never showed it again after that, as far as I can remember. Cheers!

Check out more from Angie’s 3 concerts in Norway, 7-1-22 in Kurbadhagen, 7-7-22 at Kongsberg & 7-10-22 again at Kurbadhagen. Angie had a lot of fun & so did the fans.
