The song was actually written by Willi Nelson. He was initially more successful as a songwriter before he became successful as a singer in the 70s (Patsy did her famous version in 1961). Willi performed it himself as well, it was part of his 1962 debut album. The melody is said to be very complex and give the singer the opportunity to show off her skills, due to its use of several chords, instead of the standard three used for country music compositions back then. So a perfect opportunity for Angelina. She enjoyed singing it again and again (most recently at the 2022 summer tour, when she was already "old") with different accompaniment (guitar, piano, jazz band). "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was released about a week later. You know boys have no problem wearing the same shirt in public again, girls do ;-)

Willy Nelson wrote this back around the time he was a DJ in Oregon I think. His cadence is much different from most singers and Patsy even said she could not sing it like Willy. Angelina sings it like nobody else. She still sings this in even her more resent concerts.

The guitarist is Egil Klausen, a good family friend. He's performed with Angelina quite a lot. 😎

Another Angelina and Egil jam session! One take and done! Such talent is unmatched! Egil is a family friend and has been doing jam sessions with Angelina from 7-12 years old while in Norway! Sometimes he sees his mission is to distract her, however, she usually holds it together to the end and then starts laughing!

Angelina has an exquisitely beautiful tone, no doubt about it. But another of her strengths is her phrasing of songs. I rate her right up there with Frank Sinatra in her ability to put a different phrasing on every song she sings. I don't think she ever sings the same song twice the same way/

Thank for pointing out that Willie wrote it - I'm glad I was safe and didn't assume it was Patsy Cline! Although if I'm reading the wiki correctly, he wrote it but never actually recorded it, and she was the first one to release it. Very interesting story to read about Willie's origins.

Not bad for an 11-year-old Norwegian kid, huh? Just sitting in a room at home, hand-holding a mic (no studio, no effects or engineering, no post-production editing, etc.).
