Yes, as Devon said, you really need to fix the English captions. The timestamps are totally wrong through most of the video. I had to copy them to a document in a separate window and scroll through them "manually" as I listened to your reaction. It's a shame, because it's really a very good reaction video, but it's ruined for English viewers by the mistimed captions. EDIT: Oh, and if you could change all the male pronouns to female (e.g., "he" / "his" to "she" / "her" / "hers"), that would also be appreciated.

Jack, this is Angelina Jordan's (age 9) original arrangement based on the 1956 original by Jay Hawkins. Angelina heard many of the old greats in her grandparents' home on vinyl. At age 2 she was already searching U-Tube for jazz videos. When I first heard this a few years ago, it blew me away. I had to keep pushing repeat. Thank you, Jack. Grandma Ellen, out.

My thoughts on this performance. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! Angelina Jordan - A young livin legend!

I think the main inspiration for this performance was the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who's picture was on the candle she held up at the beginning. See his performance on the Arsenio Hall Show for comparison. This was quite different from her singing Billie Holiday songs 2 years earlier on Norway's got talent, where you could see the incorporation of some of Holiday's vocal mannerisms, and different from her singing after this. She learned by singing along with her grandmother's jazz record collection as a child.

As a music lover who has no education in the field, what I find most intriguing about Angelina's music, is how emotionally connected I am to it. She has covered many songs which I have listened to many times, and when I listen to her version, I understand the story better and FEEL the emotion much more than from the original.

you can flash all the way forward to do her recently released I'm a Fool" (she's now 17) to see the end product. She really is imitating the initial singer of this song, Screaming Jack Hawkins, and not Nina Simone.

@@toddstacey6385 Maybe not. Her little sister, Juliette, recently posted on Instagram a photo of the family together, including her father. Maybe he just prefers to stay in the background. Also, his job probably keeps him in Norway much of the time & requires him to travel, so he wouldn't necessarily be free to show up with the rest of the family. Let's not perpetuate any rumors without the facts. I don't know what the facts are.

A nice first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone . Definitely the 4 songs she sang at Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 and 8 years old during the Show. This studio performance happened after Norway's Got Talent when she was 9 years old. You will notice people talk of her in the same breath as Dimash and Lara Fabian. Besides being brilliant vocally and artistically the three of them have something in common. The three of them are beautiful human beings and they express love when they sing for us.. Of course Dimash and Lara have had a head start on Angelina but, maybe not. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. @@RobertDeMartin Hi Robert, as I wrote to you last time, I'm in the middle of the tourist season and having a B&B I'm always in a rush, between guests, rooms, breakfasts, arrivals and departures, swimming pool and garden to maintain... I can barely make a few comments on FB and the most interesting reactors. Jack seems to me a rare gem, for the Italian web, the other reactors barely know what they're talking about, while he is professional and I hope attracted by our magical girl. You have no idea how much I envy you, I understand you very well I felt this way last year when I was in Norway, Portsmouth's will be her first concert of the new era and I would have loved to be there, but in September I still have the B&B full and I can't leave, but I will definitely be there in spirit.🙃

No musicians or singers in her family. She incorporated bits from various artists versions. The paper we saw her hand over was changes she was making. First clip singing with a mike she is a one and a half year old baby. At 3 she asked her mother if she could go on Norways got Talent and told she was too young. First time in a recording studio she is 6 years old.. at 7 years old she auditioned with a Billie Holiday song at 7 years old on NGT. She was 8 by the winning final.

Jack, such a wonderful and insightful first reaction to Angie, she is so special as you pointed out. There is a lot of information in these comments as Angie has a huge following that love her. Not sure if someone pointed this out, but the writing at the beginning was her handing over the arrangement! There are lots of suggestions here to follow for more epic performances from her. What I would point out though is that 17 YO Angie released her new album 21 July and it's awesome. I'm asking for people to go and check it out, particularly streaming on spotify will help chart positioning and get wider recognition she deserves after a decade of YT performances❤❤

You noticed her bare feet. That is part of her story too. When she was 6, and vacationing in Iran, she saw a young girl with no shoes weighing people in the streets for money. She gave the little girl her shoes, and said that she would sing barefoot until all little girls had shoes. Before moving too far ahead, I'd probably suggest going to her earlier audition of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" on Norway's Got Talent (and it wouldn't hurt to listen to Holiday's version first). I think you understand English, and the version with the English subtitles, where you can see what the judges are saying is pretty entertaining.

Glad you asked..... - Who is Angelina Jordan - Angelina is a Norwegian born child prodigy in music. She's a singer/ songwriter who's arranged over 180 covers and 6 originals, all since the age of 7. Angelina began singing at 18 months old. At 2, she began teaching herself how to sing, focusing primarily on the jazz masters of decades gone by. These are artists such as Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James. She's also influenced by Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, and Adele, to name a few. And the rest as they say - is history. He originally was a trained opera singer. Angelina attended some extracurricular training program that all school kids in Norway can get. But she's mostly self taught, listening to CDs and KZread videos. They got her a vocal coach after Norways got Talent, but mostly to make sure she doesnt unintentionally damage her voice. They were afraid to touch anything and risk dismantelling her unique sound.

Hi Jack, Quite genuinely thanks for the reaction. I had stopped watching these “reaction” vids as most are now just a load of people with little to no musical/vocal knowledge and little talent jumping on Angelina’s coat tails and building a youtube channel around her. When I read ‘vocal coach’ I thought ok someone who may actually add some light to this little girl’s talent. And add something you did, yes in the singing style for me also she could be a girl child version of Cocker I think you are absolutely spot on and you are the only one I have come across to liken her to Cocker, so well done you. You certainly appear to have a broader range of music than a lot of these other so called vocal coaches as Cocker is a rarther 'niche' vocalist and none of them picked up on Cocker. On Cocker alone you now have a new subscriber And on the point of recommendations I would suggest two of my favourites, but I think for you to get a working baseline you need to listen to the originals first then Angelina. Nella prima inquadratura del contrabbassista lo vediamo fare un sorrisetto che sembra dire " ah ah,giochiamo con questa bimba..." nella seconda inquadratura il sorrisetto è scomparso e al suo posto è apparso un volto con labbra serrate impegnato a dare il meglio per essere all'altezza di cio che sta ascoltando.... Questo brano è stato composto e cantato da Jay Hawkins e poi ripreso da Nina Simone e tantissimi altri. Questa di Angelina è basata sulla versione originale di Jay. Vickie .. ! soo dramatic! Scr. JAY Hawkins was the original composer, writer of lyrics and yes first singer. Nina Simone was one of many, many artists that sang it as a cover. THEN Angelina saw his original video (can still see it here on KZread) .. and she loved it and right away wanted to do her own version. She is phenomenal. The photo on the candle at the beginning of the video was Screaming Jay himself .. Angelina adjourn that this performance was done as a tribute I very much enjoyed your reaction. I can tell you about Angelina's first few years and how she taught herself to sing by listening over and over and over to the singers she liked .. all the Jazz greats for sure. BILLIE Holiday was her favorite always and A recently said that without Billie, there would not be Angelina. Angelina is humble and strong and a truly special human being. She just (3 days ago!) dropped her first EP with her producers at Republic Records. Angelina and her family wanted to wait for that until she finished school, so basically these past few years were filled with covers, tiktoks in the middle of the night, a few originals and some interviews (she has about 200 videos on KZread) so I hope to see you again and see/ hear another reaction.
