She lost for 2 reasons: 1- Oscars have a Death To Marvel mentality (which i sort of agree with - those movies are collectively garbage) 2- Too many Asians won acting awards that year, so all Angela could've filled the category all by herself & they still would've written in a white woman.

A True Queen. Her receiving this honor, instead of a win from last year's Oscars ceremony, at least allowed her the opportunity to say these profound and necessary words. The speech hits harder now because of the recent conversation around the pay disparity and lack of opportunities between Black actresses and their white female and male counterparts. And actresses of color make even less money and receive even less opportunities. Hopefully, the entertainment industry will use this moment to meaningfully and significantly progress in its practices. It's been nearly one hundred years that the industry has existed, please get it together.

Angela is a QUEEN! She will always be an Oscar winner in my mind for her Tina Turner role. Absolutely BRILLIANT!

She is absolutely amazing! Beauty intelligence and integrity. We have been waiting so long for this to happen.

This spectacular speech, made me tearful , that she stood for every Black actor from past to present with excellence 🎉 congratulations

She speaks with such power and emotion. Giving a shout out to her fellow black actresses who have won an Oscar just shows how she admires them and they admire her too. Angela Bassett is not just Queen of Wakanda she is just a queen in general.

Perhaps the most touching speech I have ever heard. You are great Angela.

Long overdue is an understatement. Throughly well deserved! One of the finest actors of her generation, she is finally getting her flowers!🏆👑

A vision and icon. This speech was full of grace, humility, and paying homage to those that have come before her, walking alone with her and for the future to come.

Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations! Even the acceptance speech gives me goosebumps and teary eyes. This is excellent class beyond one’s imagination. She is positively someone to aspire to be. Continued successes in your future career. Thank you for showing us graceful leadership in your craft. I am basking in your Pride.

She deserved this award and it's long overdue. I'm so glad she finally received what she rightfully deserve for the amazing performances she has done in roles like Tina Turner, wife of Malcom X, and countless others. Hope this moment was televised.

She’s the reason why I went to school for acting and it’s so inspiring for her to say at the end “the best is yet to come” I have faith in her future best actress win, sooner than we think!

@@taylor5973she literally took home an academy award, it’s an accomplishment. Not to mention think of all the actors who don’t get an honors Oscar to award their body of work.

This Oscar is for the stellar performances in her previous movies. Good things come to those who .... deserve it. It was well overdue and earned.❤

she was at the wrong time. last year everything everywhere all once was the darling of the Oscars, and she was competing against another well established actress, jamie lee curtie. had black panther released a year later, she probably will win the oscars over da'vine joy randolph, who is the oscar front runner for this year oscars. i don't doubt that at all.
