ANGEL: Ranking the Studio Albums from the 70's ⭐ PUNKY MEADOWS ⭐ GREGG GIUFFRIA ⭐ FRANK DiMINO
Ойын-сауық
Bringing Hard Rock goodness to your Dirty, Little Earholes! This week I'm Ranking the five original vinyl albums by ANGEL during the initial run of the band from 1975 until 1981. This Prog, Glam, Hard Rock and Power Pop band released 5 studio albums in the 1970's including the self-titled debut, Angel, Helluva Band, On Earth as it is in Heave, White Hot and Sinful! I break them down as to release date, producer and where they recorded at, as well as, who played on the albums and what songs were included on the original issued. I then select my pick for best song on the album. When I'm done I rank the albums from first to last and give you my Top 10 Songs from Angel. It's an old -fashioned fan fest for Frank DiMino, Punky Meadows, Gregg Giuffria, Mickie Jones, Felix Robinson and Barry Brandt. If you haven't played these albums in awhile it's time to break 'em out and give 'em a spin. Keep Rockin'

Thanks for posting this. Angel was a great band. I'm looking forward to seeing them (Punky and Frank) for the first time live in the next few weeks. Unfortunately, I'm not sure sticking around any longer would have helped them. After all, they did release Live Without a Net hoping to capitalize on their live presence like KISS did with alive. They were also featured in the movie Foxes. All my friends knew about them, and we were all big metal and hard rock fans. Some bands just hit it really big and others don't, for a variety of definable and undefinable reasons. For me, they will always be one of the best bands of the 70s and Tower was their best song!

Thank you for giving Angel the props they deserve. And for also recognizing the band The Baby's from the 70s. I am huge Angel and Baby's fan. I always felt that their band name "The Baby's" held them back. They fucking rocked. I just never understood why they chose that name. As far as your ranking of the Angel Albums, I would have gone 1. Helluva Band, 2. On Earth as it is in Heaven, 3. White Hot, 4. Sinful, 5. Angel. But I do agree. They are all classic albums. I saw them twice and was lucky enough to go backstage to meet them in 78 when I was 14 years old. Punky was so friggin cool. The band autographed my concert magazine. I agree. I think the record company had given up on the band at that point and didn't print that many copies. It took me a while to find a copy also.
For higher end skills and technicality, the first three albums were right there. No one can say that these guys didn't have the chops. They had some mad skills ana unique sounds that made them so original. I'm glad Punky and Frank are still carrying on with the band, even though the rest of the members are new. Greg had put out solo albums, yes, but he is an entrepreneur. So I believe the story goes, is tha he has a patent out there for some gadget that makes him filthy rich. He doesn't need to play anymore if he doesn't want to. Barry and Felix basically retired. The band still has a large and loyal fanbase. They are still good, but I miss the old lineup. Also, "Live Without A Net" was an awesome live album. I might be able to contribute some of my partial deafness upon listening to this album, at high volume through a 50 watt bass amp back in the day. I know the neighbors were probably too old to start drinking because of it, but hey! 😜🤣

In my opinion, I think the Fortune was a masterpiece ! My favorite album was the very first album because it got me hooked on this band. I read a story that said KISS was the band that pushed Angel out of the music business and they were also the Band that brought them in to the business after Gene Simmons saw them in a club and pushed Casablanca to sign them ! Apparently Gene was pissed that Angel was becoming as popular as his band and he stopped it. Angel was an extremely underrated band !
First off let me say I have NO problem with you picking Sinful. I think it's a brilliant piece of work! I've been a huge fan of ANGEL since way back in the day. I absolutely LOVE All of the original 5 studio releases along with Live Without A Net. I can only loosely rate them 1-5 so here we go: This is very difficult and can change day to day. 1. White Hot (Currently playing at my shack) The boys are absolutely hitting on all cylinders here. The songs are all great. The production is top notch. Barry's drum sound is total ear candy! This album contains "You Could Lose Me" which is one of Frank's finest moments. I think the album cover is their best too. 🎹 🎶🎸 2. Self titled debut 3. Helluva Band (Oh man...."The Fortune" and "Feelings" just to name a couple. "Feelings" is Frank's finest moment IMO. Listen to that song with a good set of headphones and your life will be forever changed. 4. On Earth As In Heaven 5. Sinful To any of you audiophiles out there, check out the Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones. The bass is the best I've ever experienced! 👍

Because of my comments and I was beyond humbled. Then Phil Collins texted me twice in the last couple weeks and gave me his private gmail number. I brought up a business venture that I would hope that he would be willing to be involved in. It's for someone who has vision. I'm working on something nobody else has done yet. If it doesn't work out with Phil. I will pass it your way we will talk. Give me a day or so to see what happens. I don't want to piss Phil off.

didn't they release a cover of Left Bank's " Walk away Renee" ?
@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock
3 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct, Kevin. 'Walk Away Renee' was recorded and released on the 1992 greatest hits set 'An Anthology' I have to say that I really like Angel's version of it also. Being a new song though left a glimmer of hope for a new album after the greatest hits package but unfortunately nothing came of it at the time.
They could sing that wasn't the problem the problem was Casablanca I almost think had they been with another record company such as Arista records they could have had that a shot of getting a song into the top 10 becoming one of the major players in heavy metal their story reminds me of the story Autograph where you have a band that should have been big but didn't because of the record company and everyone involved with the record company

I agree, Jody. Also, if they could have made it to the debut of MTV, I think the video revolution would have been big for Angel
Suspicion! Was it "White Hot"? Love that song. I always thought of them as the alternative to Kiss, cause they were label mates at Casablanca records. Might have made an interesting tour.

For me Risen is their best album, it has it all from start til finish
While White Hot might have been their top selling album. As a teenage boy in the 70’s, the cover was big miss for the band I think. Lots of guys back then would laugh at the five mostly naked guys on the cover.

My faves are in descending order. SINFUL is my favorite, with WHITE HOT being a close 2nd. Then down the line, with the debut being my least favorite. They were a band that to me, was better than KISS. They should have been Big! By the way, "Waited a Long Time" is also my favorite song by the band...and Frank DiMino is criminally underrated. A truly great Rock vocalist that more people should know about!

Cool aah! Thank You for ranking Angel's! Greatings from Finland I'm KIZZ fan since 1976 and I heard Under Suspicious on the radio back in seventies and like the band a lot. I have all albums on vinyl and cd's and a bootleg live double cd and two 2006 Russian released vinyl 45's boxets seven records each boxet. I ranked albums same as you, but songs little differendly 🙃. I think that Under Suspicious is Angel's Kashmir! 🙂 Please. Check out my Sex'n'Money band project forever "Hug'n'RoLL" demo songs. SEX N MONEY - LOVE IN ME LOVE IN YOU and more. Juha Kinnunen
