    I would never wish injury on someone, nor voice a desire for their injury to be prolonged. But man... I would feel deeply embarrassed to my very foundation to be this unreliable at my job, and for that ineptitude to be on full display to the general public - to millions of people - day in and day out. I honestly don't know how this guy doesn't resign out of a legitimate crisis of conscience.

    He missed the call because his angle was bad, he wasn't set when the tag was applied, and SS had him blocked out from seeing the tag. We get a great view with the replay. Ideally, he would be on the other side of the bag with the play coming at him, so that he can position himself between the fielder's inside hip (the hip closest to the base) and the runner, where the tag is most likely to be applied. That gives the best view of the play. From experience I can tell you that calling that play from deep B isn't always easy. I can't help you with understanding his abhorrent strike zone, though. That just blows my mind.

  • @seankiesling2054

    @seankiesling2054

    9 ай бұрын

    Well him being in the wrong or terrible position to make a call goes right back to why hes such a terrible ump, right? A good ump, who cares, would have been in the right position to have the best view...but not him...he wasn't..and if hes too slow getting there that means hes no longer fit for his job...your lowkey defense of blowing that call actually only strengthen his case for being terrible

  • @XXelpollodiabloXX

    @XXelpollodiabloXX

    9 ай бұрын

    @@seankiesling2054 It's not a terrible position. It's the correct mechanic for deep B. The way the throw came in and cause SS to move out that far, then turn to make the tag is what did it here. Usually even on a high throw the tag comes down, not with a spinning swipe where the umpire's view is completely obscured. You can't call a guy out if you don't see a tag, and you can't see a tag if a player blocks your view. My point is that it wasn't a bad call under the circumstances; it was the best he could do with the information he had. This is why replay is a thing, so they can fix something like this. Meanwhile, go read up on 4-person umpire mechanics and you'll understand what I'm talking about here.
