I applaud them on their grit and tenacity, but the talent level was noticeable, especially in attacking play. Glad they made it this far, but they didn’t deserve to win.

1:12:05 On the subject of McDavid catching up to Crosby's accolades, outside of playoff success, McDavid is already ahead. McDavid has 5 Art Ross, 3 Hart, and 4 Ted Lindsay awards. Crosby has 2 Hart, 2 Art Ross, and 3 Ted Lindsay. Crosby has 2 Rocket Richard to McDavid's 1, but that's the only place he's leading. Crosby has one more all-star team selection in total (end of season best team, not all-star game appearances), but McDavid has 5 first team selections to Crosby's 4. And this is all in 10 fewer seasons for McDavid (or 8 if you account for Crosby being out with concussions for the better part of 2 years in his prime). McDavid has also easily eclipsed Crosby's career highs in goals, assists, and points, was only the third player to 100 assists, sixth player to 150+ points, and just put up a top 5 playoff scoring season. Crosby's legacy as a player, a leader, and the face of the league is immense, but on paper just by numbers and trophies, McDavid is either right there with him or a step ahead with hopefully another solid decade or more left in his career.

View Clark's departure, and his view of the organization, from his perspective. He just watched his boss last year, publicly humiliate and fire a good friend. That friend was probably the only reason why he lent his skills to this organization to begin with. What Dubas wanted to do last year, move on from the core four, was the right move then. He watched Shanahan fire his friend, blaming it on *not having the desire* in a single car ride, for that thought of moving on. Clark is watching this organization continue to double down on the core four and lie to it's fan base (everything is on the table) without acknowledging their mistakes and correcting them. That isn't an organization I would want to work for either.

That's not what Dubas was fired for. There was a deal in place that was pretty much already agreed upon. At the 11th hour, Dubas decided to change the terms and make significant increases in his demands. Shanahan was definitely caught off guard by this action. Shanahan gave Dubas the chance and stuck his neck out for him at every turn. Every opportunity, every decision, stood by him. Then, when it's time to renew the contract, Dubas sticks a knife in him by playing games talking about "not sure if I want to do this" and drags his family into it (using the family card for sympathy). The reality is, Dubas got another offer (Pittsburgh) and decided to use that offer to increase the deal that was already prepared for him. Shanahan felt betrayed that the guy he's backed and supported for almost a decade just pulled that bullshit with him. So he fired him. Like he should have. That's why Dubas was hired by PIT less than 2 weeks later. There was already an offer on the table so he took it. It was a slimy move. Pittsburgh can have him, his poor decisions have done enough damage to the Leafs over the years. The fact the Penguins missed the playoffs his first year there is fitting. Wes will have plenty of time to get to know everything there, the Pens have no draft capital either (the Leafs don't have much either because he handed it out like candy every year).

Sure there are lots of problems with the Penguins organization. That’s the cost of winning in the cap era. Pittsburgh won its cups in their window. Y’all are speaking on the team’s inevitable shortcomings after the team’s prime has come to an end like it wasn’t the obvious outcome. That’s what happens when you trade picks and continue to remain competitive for longer than a decade. What will happen? What’s the plan? Remain competitive while trying to rebuild for the future is the plan. We will see if that comes to fruition. Nevertheless, Crosby, Malkin, and Letang will go down as the one of the greatest and longest-tenured sports cores in all of sports. They have engraved their legacy. Your team has no picks, the core is falling apart before your eyes, and will be forgotten because Toronto has nothing to show for it.

I lived 2 years in South America as a kid (speak of the devil, in Uruguay!). The rolling on the ground thing in soccer,or pretending to be in colossal pain from a slight bump, is literally just to waste time and allow the players to rest a lil. It`s still pathetic and is the exact same benefit to the other team. I tried to explain that last part, that it was like sharing time outs. No one cared, it`s very deeply ingrained. I did manage to get a few friends interested in street hockey, parents went back to Canada and even brought us back actual sticks and nets... No one would ever go down, even bleeding out of both knees. It`s quite literally ingrained in the soccer culture, only way to explain it.

I wish all teams would handle their own streaming. If it's going to be through a centralized app or service, at least give the option to subscribe to a single team's games for a lower price. It's great that I have access to "every" NHL game, but I don't need it. I just want to watch my team play 89 games

It's shitty from a technical standpoint but here in Germany NHL TV is still active. Streaming quality is stuck in the year 2006 and sometimes it doesn't work all together but it's something I guess

No offense but as a large podcast I don't think its a good look to denigrate another podcast off of 1 clip you saw. I know tangentially of lex friedman but he is not an "alpha male type" podcast, he is a long form interviewer who is regularly criticized for his "boring tone". Not to be harsh but just felt the assumption was unwarranted and unfactual

I’m at 1:08 I’m wondering on your thoughts of having a term limit on the NHL president? Just like the states, 4 years or something close. I know it’s bringing in more politics but how times have you wondered what the NHL would be like with someone other than Bettman?

From NJ, I went to the game as mostly a neutral fan but I've loved messi and Di Maria for a while now...Canada did not lose because of bad reffing, but certainly the refs were not on their side. Schaffelburg had an early chance that went just wide. The refs have been terrible this entire copa, especially to the US and Canada. That game against Venezuela was absurdity. I've never seen a goalie go to the sidelines and play patty cake with a player trying to throw the ball in LOL

Yes they should bring back NHL center ice. The reason you can't "just watch" the regional ad-supported broadcast is because the ads are not relevant to you but you take up as much bandwidth as everyone else. But VPNs gonna ruin that for everyone and they'll eventually just fold up the whole thing anyway.

The disdain Steve has for Joe Rogan and that Adam put out for Lex Fridman is... unbecoming. These people are in a league apart when it comes to personal achievements and podcasting. Really undermines the 'inclusive, hockey is fun and for everyone' mandate to have the guys stoop to "politicking" or virtue signalling.
