And Eve Was Weak (Broadway Soundboard)

Музыка

Stunning song from the ill-fated Carrie the Musical. This is video of the Stratford production featuring Barbara Cook as Margaret White dubbed with a soundboard recording from the Broadway production featuring an amazing Betty Buckley. The video has an edit where footage of Betty is available. Linzi Hateley plays Carrie in both productions.
The clip with its original soundtrack is here...

this musical feels like two completely different scores. a chilling Gothic musical with what they give Margaret, and a pop-ish musical with the high school story line (not surprised, same composers as Footloose). the Margaret material was the best part of the show.

God... just the pure... energy and fanaticism in this song is amazing. The LIFE that this actress (I'm sorry, I've forgot her name) brings to the role is stunning. This is on the level of "Hellfire" from Notre Dame (the Disney film of course) in terms of power and emotion and that was a song that quite literally sends shivers down my spine even now.

And i feel that if they had stayed within the world created by STEPHEN king, book and then the 1980's film it would have gone over much better than it did with critics.

how come this musical is getting so much praise when this became one of the worst musical productions

Because half the score of the original production was amazing - basically everything with Carrie and Margaret. I don't think anyone can possibly say that this version of Eve Was Weak is anything but thrilling. The original run had lots of problems, but the part of the score focused around Margaret was GENIUS.

@@eirikastokes9652 I'd say most of the orchestration and scores are amazing on their own, Do me a favor , wotta night, Out for blood have rather cool lyrics and music. It's just the other creative parts that destroyed a good show.

Just a matter of taste. I agree with the critics. I think the lyrics are amateurish and below Miss Buckley's talent.

Sounds a lot like Angela Lansbury.

I now understand why this show closed. Great voice, dreadful song.
