Watch 'Lost Humans - What Happened to our Prehistoric Forebears?' here: • Lost Humans - What Hap...
While civilization covers the entire globe today, there was a time when it rose as isolated islets in a vast sea of barbarism. That is why the few cultures that were able to accomplish this feat have been the objects of scholarly scrutiny for generations. In “Ancient Civilizations Uncovered,” we approach these civilizations from a diverse array of perspectives and look at the factors which made them so successful. Also, we examine their lingering effect on the civilizations of today.
This documentary delves into Indus Valley Civilization and the mysterious city of Harappa which was equipped with an intricate system of canals and wells. We learn of the startling modern conveniences of the ancient city and of the people who designed and built them.

The cities of the ancient Indus were noted for their urban planning, baked brick houses, elaborate drainage systems, water supply systems, clusters of large non-residential buildings, and techniques of handicraft and metallurgy. Mohenjo-daro and Harappa very likely grew to contain between 30,000 and 60,000 individuals, and the civilisation may have contained between one and five million individuals during its florescence. A gradual drying of the region during the 3rd millennium BCE may have been the initial stimulus for its urbanisation. Eventually it also reduced the water supply enough to cause the civilisation's demise and to disperse its population to the east.

Very elaborate and educative documentary film on our very ancient and developed civilization of Indus Valley of India and Pakistan of today's world! It is very interesting to know and study this civilization, that has very distinctive urban settlements of Harappa, Mohenjo-Daro and Dhola Vira townships on the river. valley of Indus and Ghaggar Hakra, which is almost extinct or dried up today! The Indus Valley Civilization make us wonder about our ancient past and also warns us about the drastic and impending environmental disaster in the past and warns us about our future too! This type of disaster happened time and again in the history of our world! But it is happening in our recent past too! But unfortunately, we the 'Human' do not want to learn!

One thing I don't understand, is how come the entire civilisation disappeared just becuase one relatively smaller river strand, called the Ghaggar Hakra, dried up in the Indus river valley, even though there were still many other tributaries of the actual Indus river that were all still flowing?! And most of the main cities of the civilisation, such as Harrappa and Mohenjo Dark, were all on the Indus tributiary banks (which is still flowing) and not the Ghaggar Hakra?! If the civilisation fell due to drought caused by the Ghaggar Hakra drying up, then how come the main cities which were not even located on the Ghaggar Hakra, but in fact located on the Indus river banks, why did these cities also fall and become abandoned despite still having a flowing river they can survive on?

Recent research shows that the Ghaggar-Hakra was monsoon-fed during Harappan times, and had already dried-up during Vedic times, therefore, no way it can be Sarasvati River. Indo-Europeans entered India around 1500 BCE when Harappan civilization was already in decline. Vedic people had no scripts but Harrapan people had. Some Vedic scholars (e.g. Kochhar 1999) also believe the Helmand river corresponds to the Sarasvati river mentioned in the Rig Veda as the homeland of the Aryan tribes before migrating into the Indian Subcontinent, ca. 1500 BCE.

First we used to say that the Indus Valley civilization is one of the oldest civilizations or should I say one of the earliest civilizations in the region until the discovery of another city in Balochistan in the town of Mehergarh by a British archaeological team back in 1973. The carbon dating revealed that the Mehergarh civilization is much older than the Indus Valley civilization. The Mehergarh was near an ancient river which does not exists anymore. Some Biblical scholars tried to prove the flood story from the ruins of Mehergarh that it was buried under mud because of a great flood.

Less climate than Limnology - aka the study of rivers. It is not unknown in antiquity for large rivers to build up sediment to a point where they spill sideways and cut new channels to avoid the build up. At this point they eventually forge completely new channels where a large part of the water volume travels leading the original path of the river to slowly dry up as ever more sediment settles at the blockage. The Nile did this several times in the history of dynastic Egypt causing the civilisation to uproot and relocate to the most ideal area. The real wonder is why the Indus Valley Civilisation did not simply do the same - albeit it is not impossible that they simply could not locate the changed path as it had diverted further upstream than was commonly known or recorded.

nope, we have no clue, not even educated guesses about what these ppl believed, because we haven't deciphered their language/script. So no, we dont know that they worshipped water, and that cool looking beard guy may just as well be a boogeyman, or sa hunter, or miner, or anything, as much as a priest/king or god.

The Indus civilisation is not lost. It's descendants are the Tamils in Tamil Nadu. The language of the Indus civilisation is the Tamil language. - archeological evidence had been unearthed and scientifically dated from the various archeological findings in Tamil Nadu; particularly from the Keezhadi excavations findings of Indus civilisation seals, pictography and it' progression to Graffitti writings, to ancient Tamil script Thamizhi. - genetical evidence had been established, from the DNA sequencing of the female and male skeletons unearthed at Rakhigarhi (an Indus Civilisation site) north west India, that the Tamils are the genetical descendants of the Indus Civilisation people (whose skeletons had been DNA-ed earlier). The research was carried out by an international team of scientists and published in the CELL research journal in 2019.

That's a work for egg heads in an office rather than expeditionary work. The problem is that unlike Linear A where we can at least infer the symbol sounds from the Linear B/Mycenaean Greek translation effort, there is no likewise later symbol system that closely resembles Indus Script. Even knowing what Linear B means we still don't understand the so called Minoan language that Linear A was written in.
