That take about child actors was WILD. Like… child actors famously are almost guaranteed to be abused usually sexually. Even if that’s not the case, the inherent trauma of being a child, sometimes literally 5 or 6 years old, and being the primary breadwinner for your family, being financially responsible for your whole family’s ability to live before you’re even allowed to drive a car, is horrifying.

The second opinion about shows nowadays is so true. I've been watching a lot of Gossip Girl lately, and it made me realize, back before the 2010s, TV shows packed so much content into one episode, with drama and suspense, and it was amazing! These days, seasons have like 6 episodes (!), the episodes always end on a cliffhanger, and almost nothing happens in each episode, everything is saved for the season finale. Like, do writers know what side stories are? Not everything needs to follow one plot and one plot only. My own little hot take lol 😅

The booktok one is real. It's so rare for genres other than romance or romance-adjacent to get any spotlight, and I do agree that I have felt almost gaslit before by the hype around certain titles (most of which are literally just cookie cutter straight romances between white people). Hard agree, I no longer watch booktok, and neither should you.

Justice for Rachel Zegler! She's young and she's using talking points Disney gave her to talk about the movie they're making! So she doesn't think 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' is a masterpiece, is that really causing all this drama? Honestly I think the republican anti-woke crowd are using this to generate hate towards a young women for not being the 'correct' skin tone and it's crazy.

I personally never really cared about her (I don't really like Snow White nor had I seen any of her movies) until the Hunger Games movie. Her performance there was immaculate and her voice is amazing. She is a very talented actress, and I hope all this backlash doesn't impact her career

abt the rachel zegler thing... literally the hate on her is so uncalled for. all the problems: the stuff she said, the fact that shes playing snow white in the first place... its not her fault, it's kinda disney's. obviously disney gave her things to say abt the movie and comments on the original movie. they r also the ones that casted her. me personally, i dont like how they casted rachel for a remake for snow white of all fairytales, where snow white originally has "lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow"... ...but ig thats just disney being disney and doing whatever theyre doing recently since theyve been pumping out these remakes. however they could be bringing so much more potential by making new films where actors/actresses like rachel can be themselves and not get hate for it; because how would anyone know that some character named amy in an original story was thought of to be casted by a white actress before they changed their mind./sar im not saying that rachel as snow white is horrible; i have faith that she as well as other potential lead characters in future remakes will do well in their respective roles. but it's just the fact that disney could've given her such a bigger opportunity that wouldn't end up in such controversy annoys me: of course you can have diversity in the film industry, yet i think disney might be putting it in the wrong places. note: if you read all of this, thank you. im not here to start a war: im voicing my opinion and i dont mean to hurt anybody especially poc. im not anti-rachel or anti-disney (although it may seem so from my whole essay above). i just wish for disney to realise that the backlash their actors are getting would kinda stop if they went about things a slightly different way.

On the explicit scenes take, I feel like Saltburn is such a good example of when it can be done right. Like I understand the need for explicit scenes in that movie, it is hugely relevant to the character and the story, and also, the power would be lost without showing the way/how of the scenes. They were sometimes super uncomfortable even, but it never felt gratuitous or exploitative the way Game of Thrones did, for example. Or other media that just clearly lingers over the actors' bodies in this pornographic, creepy way. Or, for another example, there's a lower key sex scene in Lamb that I thought also made sense for the movie. But I feel like 95% of the time we get explicit scenes in movies, it doesn't add much to the story, there is nothing in the scene that requires or justifies the time spent on it (vs a fade to black or implication or whatever). And honestly, not that many ppl want it lol. It's just annoying to sit through .

1:45 As someone who remembers the early 2000’s, TV is so sooooo much better than it used to be. Yes few of the streaming era shows rise to the absolute top and there’s a lot of mediocre crap, but that pales in comparison to the stuff that came before prestige TV was a thing. You had high water marks like the Office or Last Airbender but a lot of insanely popular stuff was not great in comparison to what gets made now (Friends, Smallville, 4kids Yugioh dubs, etc.). And that’s not even mentioning the stuff that disappeared into obscurity (ever heard of Lunatics Unleashed? Terra Nova? The Cape???). The past looks better in comparison because people only remember the good stuff.

I personally love the brothers grimm and just literally every single fairy tale that’s old so ofc I also love the tale of Snow White. I just think Disney should make new movies with diversity instead of turning snowwhite into something she’s not. However that isn’t Rachels fault, also I didn’t even like the Disney Snow White movie at all because it just was way too different from the og story for me.

I think things would be better overall if more poc were involved in the creative process as a whole, ie poc writers, producers, etc. Because I understand OP's frustration in the sense that rep can sometimes come across as pandering and disingenuous rather than thoughtful and heartfelt. But I also definitely agree that at this point (especially in the US) pretending like the world isn't diverse is in itself very unrealistic. But in mainstream media white people are super overrepresented, so their attempts at representation can sometimes feel hollow. I think if the field opens up for more poc involvement this will get way better.
