It really is potent because both Vander and Silco are hoping for the same thing, and yet are going about it in the absolutely opposite way. Vander wants to preserve the undercity at all costs, and he does so by making contracts with the police of Piltover. He preserves the immediate lives sort of, but doesn't do anything about the deep-rooted issue that is actually killing his people; the mines are still toxic, the runoff is still toxic, his people are still being poisoned and dying. He's trying to preserve the present for the sake of the future. Silco, on the other hand, is sacrificing the present for for the sake of the future. His plan probably would have worked- hell, it almost DID work. By flooding the undercity and piltover with Shimmer, the undercity had the most to gain, since they would get the strength and health boost that it offers even while it becomes addictive. Piltover, which already has the finest medicine and feels powerful, would only feel the negative effects of shimmer, and would therefore be broken down and rendered susceptible to the undercity's guerrilla assaults. However, the negative effects of shimmer as well as all of the backlashes from Piltover after every attack are not to be shrugged off easily by a populace that is already starving and struggling to survive.

To start off as a full villain who would burn down the world and everyone in it only to then be humbled into being a father who’d throw his dreams away rather than give up the one thing that would get him what he’s been fighting for his entire life. Silco didn’t even feel like a villain but an antagonist proper, hero to their own narrative, and actually fighting injustice and oppression, thought not above it himself. She certainly could have joined Ekko if not for the self-hatred and guilt. However Silco took her down the path that she couldn’t return from. A child soldier who seemingly takes pleasure out of causing chaos and destruction toward others. That you can’t come back from even if it’s not fair.

Because she was led down one path. She became Jinx, a sympathetic character, yes, but also a person who revels in destruction and terror. She had so much hope, an ocean of untapped potential, and it was dashed. That’s what makes a fantastic character.

  • @DLxxx

    20 күн бұрын

@@HK-gm8pe That's obviously not what happened. Vi didn't "choose Caitlyn over her sister." Caitlyn needed medical attention, they had to get that Hexcite crystal to the council in order to prevent increasing conflict with the enforcers, and Jinx literally almost killed them both _seconds_ prior. Vi had absolutely no reason to talk to her sister at the end of episode 7, because that would've meant irresponsibly risking the lives of herself, Caitlyn, and Ekko. Even if she tried to talk to Jinx, she almost certainly wouldn't have listened to her, and Ekko would've just told Vi to shut up and leave anyway. Context matters. Had Jinx not bombed the bridge, and had Marcus not nearly killed Caitlyn, Vi would've went back to find her sister. She was ready to say goodbye to Caitlyn for good in order to find Jinx, and then the situation fundamentally changed.

They made their own show with essentially no source material outside of a few characters and the setting. It’s a weird line for me…I don’t think I’d call it an adaptation, but idk what else to call it aside from its own show.

It was two things: seeing himself in Powder, but also the fact that Silco was obviously a deeply lonely person. He had been quite predatory up until she lunged at him and hugged him. He was both literally and figuratively taken aback. Watch his face and you can see him processing the emotional shock, like he's flooding with oxytocin and utterly baffled by the feeling. And then, of course, what Powder tells him suddenly makes everything make sense. Incidentally, I think an element of Arcane that goes a little overlooked is how often they emphasize how powerful physical touch can be. Vi touching Jinx on the arm in Ep. 6 was intense and jarring. Cait touching Vi on the cheek in Ep. 7 was tender and loving. And of course, Jinx was often uncomfortably clingy with Silco. They were codependent not just because of their mutual abandonment issues, but also because neither one could imagine someone else loving and holding them (in a familial sense or otherwise).

Like that scene of Silco asking Jinx why the first job with Sevika was botched and how Jinx was getting REALLY close to Silco, gentIy caressing his face, boarder line sitting on his lap. It felt weirdly intimate and honestly, a bit sensual. That’s why I was always kinda suspicious of their relationship (Atleast on Jinx’s half of it). When you look at him a could have killed Vander earlier but a want to show him he was a monster (if he overcome his troma he have just to kill him) and he was incapable of becoming attached to anyone except the person who has the same troma as him. Without even noticing it, he teaches Jix to repress her emotions, which is the worst thing to do (it makes their relationship really interesting I think) Sorry for the spelling mistakes I'm not English 😕

The reason he loved Jinx so much was because she healed his wound caused by Vanders betrayal. He realized why Vander did what he did and Jinx gave him what no one could closure and love, he died at peace.

There's one thing to point out: Jinx is way closer to how he wants his people to be than what he himself is! She's pretty much the polar opposite of him and he's in many ways closer to his own enemies. I don't know why, but he even has some of their mannerisms. He does realise it and it may be even with self-hatred. This ties in to his infamous last words...

Good observation. And you're correct that Silco very much immatates the top siders in terms of his mannerisms and speech. Even his clothes are more fancy and symetrical than any other outfit in Zaun (he's also the only undercity character we see that cann afford to apply makeup every single day).

Every good thing Silco ever had was from people who he showed kindness towards. Jinx gave him a feeling of family after he sympathized with her and raised her as his daughter. Sevika was willing to back him to the hilt after he gave her the opportunity to fight for her freedoms. Singed was more of a work friend than anything, but the scene where Singed knocked Silco out to spare him the pain of watching Jinx undergo surgery comes across as sympathy to me.

Silco is like the perfect embodiment of the phrase "One Man's Terrorist is Another Man's Freedom Fighter", and how sometimes, you can be both. His cause truly might have led to real change, but at a cost that only hurt the people he was fighting for. In today's world, we have seen this time and time again...groups who desperate people turn to in hope of a life free from oppression, at a terrible cost. El Salvador, Iran, Zimbabwe, and the current war in Gaza are all examples of this. Wars where most of the violence is carried out by hegemonic powers, but where the actions of those who rose up led to hideous results, as we see Silco carry out with his use of Shimmer and his treatment of others.

Difference being that Silco never felt the need to take young girls as sex slaves, unlike Palestine. He was a straight fighter and killer. I can respect that. Can't respect degenerates who hurt people just to satisfy themselves.

I thought Vander giving up the fight across the bridge was what caused the fight with Silco. I imagine him going rabid at the thought of giving up that fight, and saying he'll go over Vander's decision and like you said probably use more drastic measures which probably made Vander feel he had to physically put him down. Maybe he suggested using kids in factories like he ended up doing.

Silco is a fantastic character, probably my favorite from Arcane. I really like how he is deeply flawed as both a man and a father, but is very clear how much he cares about his city and even moreso how much he loved his daughter. A really great villain.
