13:00 It's implied that Joker KNEW that Hugo was aware of his long track record of lying about his past, and that arrogant Strange would never believe him or fall for anything. So Joker told him the whole truth, and laughed silently at Hugo denying it all

  • @dannylopez5976

It's quite horrifying. The idea all of this is true and maybe a part of Joker is reaching out for help but laughs knowing he'll never get it a sick *joke* . Or that he's lying all of it is a lie, just another story or *joke* in a long line of them he tells to manipulate folk or just for his own amusement. The extra indepth details being just being the classic liar trope or him constantly remembering the day.

@@dannylopez5976 the awnser is joker doesnt actually know he may lie about his past but even if he didnt lie he still couldnt givr a straight awnser. Theres the possibility he was always like this. Which is just as likely as him being a man driven to craziness. However the truth is that there is no explanation for why he is the way that he is he just likes to think he is like batman and the difference is he admits he is crazy. When in reality he is unlike batman. They probably both went through tradgedy but it isnt one bad day that makes a person become evil its not even a week or a year its how a person responds to it. An aspect lost on Batman is kind of The idea batman has moved forward from the trauma. Trauma never goes away because its a feeling of being frozen in time and not moving forward. But batman is somebody who has learned to live with it and move forward even if he still feels frozrn. But regardless the point still stands because bruce took his anger and need for justice to make a difference. The joker wont just admit he is the problem. It doesnt matter if the monster was the man or if he was a man made monster by the point of him being the joker because he himself is unexplainable even to himself theres no way to pin why he creates chaos beyond why he enjoys it. Heath ledger was a fantastic joker but he is more of an interpretation of joker because joker wouldnt flat out explain half of the heaths joker would. Joker sees life as a joke and thats what makes him an agent of chaos he just simply sees it all as a joke to be made fun of. Where batman seee life as valuble and that all life no matter good or bad deserves to live. Joker is the unexplainable chaos to batmans explainable justice. Anyways point being jokers brillaince as a villain comes from the unexplained not the explained. Its why joker 2019 is implied to never of happened.

I think Hugo's conclusion and yours were pretty spot on. The fact that the Joker only got defensive at two points in their interview should be highlighted: 1) Hugo telling him that fearing death is common, and implying something about the Joker could actually be common 2) Catching him in a potential lie regarding his 12 different backstories. I think this proves that the Joker is nowhere near as tragic a character or actually as crazy as he tries to come off as. Jason Todd as the Red Hood in the original Under the Red Hood comic actually argued this before as well. I think Joker was just some dude who was indeed down on his luck and MAYBE some bad stuff happened to him. But I don't think it was as dramatic or unique as his backstories try to make out. He likely made up those stories to garner some form of attention for himself and to make him feel as though his suffering was not "common." He dearly wants attention and for the world/Batman to pay attention to him, and so he dresses super garishly and does horrible things not because he is actually that mentally ill, but because he wants to feel like his pain is especially important and essentially justifies his horrid actions.

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Tim Burton’s _Batman_ giving the Joker a definitive origin, depicting him as already being a sociopathic killer before his accident was a smart move. All falling into a vat of chemicals and going insane really did to Jack Napier was free him up to be much more creative in his cruelty.

it'd also explain why the Joker is kind of frustrated and amused with Batman, cus Bruce did have a horrible day when his parents were killed, because he can be a playboy millionaire and philanthrope getting all the attention in the world. Because despite how intelligent, powerful and smart Batman is, he choses to be a vigilante of few words, acting when and where nobody can see him, because he wants no attention or fame and because the Joker knows better the real Bruce is Batman, not his playboy persona.

The Joker is the perfect example, in my opinion, of how a seemingly simple character can be suprisingly multifaceted and versatile I love how The Joker's insanity and twisted nature makes it impossible to tell if he's completely full of BS, if his various backstories have any hint of truth or if even he himself can't separate fact from fiction anymore. Hell, even Batman being involved in his Killing Joke backstory could be a detail he added retroactively, reflecting how deeply he views his "soulmate". And, yeah, even though we like to meme on his and Batman's relationship being a twisted "love story" , that IS a valid interpretation. The Joker wants the world to burn while he dances in the spotlight, with the only dance partner he'd ever accept being the only person he considers his friend, his opposite, the only one he sees being as twisted as he is.

Judging by four actors playing him live all have had different emphasis dictated by tone of their stories. Cesar Romero was silly fool in show that was deliberately silly. Jack Nicholson was gimmicky gangster in anachronistic film noir-setting. Heath Ledger was anarchist terrorist going against Order represented by Batman and before that he already targeted organized crime of Gotham as well. Joaquin Phoenix made Joker a cult leader capable of bringing out worst impulses from people. They all are Joker viewed from different angle. In my view Joker should always be a mystery. Who he was is not important even if viewer knows it. He is also very unpredictable as he might reappear only to vandalize schoolgirl uniforms with stylized graffiti of his face or he might reappear in audience of live comedy show and gun down comedians as light form of heckling.

He is my favorite villain, and in my opinion is one of if not the greatest villain, no matter the medium! The animated series is one if the best cartoons and Hamil kills it.But it's not just that, whenever I read the comics, or think about the joker he has Hamils voice. If you haven't seen Mask of the phantasm do yourself a favor and watch it! It is surprisingly adult( let's be honest the series was too) it allowed Hamil to go darker, and he kills it. Then after the Arkham series sealed it for me! Sorry for lengrh, nerded out about the Joker, I mean Mark Hamil

The thing I remember about this version of the Joker was how he wanted to bring Batman down to his level. At the end of the first Arkham game, he tries to turn Batman into another rampaging monster, with a helicopter camera showing their fight to the entire city of Gotham. He wanted to turn Batman into a monster just like him, and then put him on display to completely destroy Batman's reputation as Gotham's beloved protector. But when Batman cures himself and ruins his plan, the Joker completely loses interest in the fight and spends most of the time posing for the cameras, while leaving his goons to deal with Batman.

Think about it, Joker committed the most vile, disgusting, and evil crimes in all of human history, terrorized the citizens of Gotham for decades, filled entire graveyards, yet none of that matters because he’ll just be a bad memory. A relic of the past. Joker’s always loved being in the limelight, loved being feared, so again the notion that he’ll end up being forgotten is terrifying to him.

When Alan Moore wrote _The Killing Joke_ it wasn't meant to be a definitive Joker origin story, hence the line about him remembering his past differently because he doesn't actually know much about his own past and therefore goes with whatever fabrication he chooses to make up on any given day. DC, however, liked the story enough to make it canon, especially given that it basically removed Barbara Gordon from the _Batman_ titles (a mistake that was later rectified by turning her into Oracle, which allowed the character to come into her own). A version of that origin story made it into the 1989 _Batman_ film by Tim Burton, which was then used as the basis for the Joker in _Batman: The Animated Series_ for the duration of its run. Other variations, such as in _Batman: Under the Red Hood_ have him tripping on his own cape and falling into the chemicals that dyed his hair permanently green and bleached his skin white. It's interesting how one story meant as a one-off taking place in a pocket continuity intended to be separate from the main Batman mythos ended up becoming such a definitive tale exploring the history of one of comics' most iconic villains.

I believe this incarnation of the Joker to be a contender for the most evil villain in all of fiction, in the top five at least. You did a fine job illustrating his evil, including a few things I wasn't aware of. There are a few things I think should be addressed though: 1. After defeating Ra's Al Ghul, Barbara tells Batman that Joker's blood could be in as many as 2000 people by morning. I don't believe for a second that Batman and Gordon managed to save all but five. How could they possibly? 2. In Arkham Knight Genesis, Joker captures Jason after causing an explosion that seperates them from Batman, so I guess it's an alternate canon the the City Stories entry in the game.

Yeah, they retconned how Joker's blood worked in Arkham Knight. In Arkham City, it was just a deadly poison that was caused by the TITAN chemicals mixing with the ACE chemicals in his bloodstream. It became so bad that anyone who was infected would be dead in less than 12 hours. In Arkham Knight, it became a mutated prion infection, specifically a form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and started turning people into Joker knockoffs. Keep in mind that these people should've already been dead because they still had TITAN in their system. Also, I don't know why Batman bothered trying since Mr. Freeze made it clear that manufacturing the cure wasn't the problem. It was the cure breaking down before it did its job that was the issue.

One of the best parts of Arkham Knight is when you realize the hallucinations Bruce is experiencing of the joker is a sign of Joker's blood slowly changing his psyche. Ofcourse there is also Bruce's complexion slowly becoming more pallid with the bloody red lips. And then you notice the criminals in the city and the Arkham soldiers talking about how "Batmans getting more violent" "He's not holding back like he used to" and "He has that scary fricken tank now" showing us that Batman was very slowly losing his grip on his steadfast morals of not killing people. That was almost. Almost, One of the Joker's greatest and most evil accomplishments. The corruption of Bruce Wayne, and Batman before their own eyes.

The three Jokers in this story are referred to by simple titles: The Criminal, the pragmatic, philosophical, surprisingly serious Joker from the Golden Age, who is the most methodical of the trio and is initially implied to be their leader. Claiming that laughing actually hurts him, his personality and demeanor are reminiscent of the Joker's earliest comic book appearances. His ultimate plan is to transform Joe Chill into 'a better Joker' worthy of being Batman's arch-nemesis, given that Chill's act of murdering Bruce Wayne's parents caused the most pain in Batman's life. The Clown, the campy, colorful, goofy prankster Joker from the Silver Age, who is the most anarchistic of the trio. He is implied to be the Joker responsible for bludgeoning and killing Jason Todd in Batman: A Death in the Family. He has a sidekick named Gagsworth A. Gagsworthy, and uses elaborate pranks in his crimes with the simple goal of causing chaos. The Comedian, the depraved, demented, sadistic psychopath Joker from the Bronze and Modern Age, who is the most cunning and evil of the trio. He is the Joker who shot and paralyzed Barbara Gordon in Batman: The Killing Joke. Behind his warped sense of humor and eerie smile, he is a malicious monster who feels nothing but spite for what he sees as a cruel, irredeemable world. He is implied to be the original Joker, and orchestrates a series of events that allow him to replace Joe Chill as Batman's greatest pain.

I feel both the Joker and Batman demonstrate the long term effects of a fictional form of extreme PTSD. Bruce Wayne due to seeing his parents murdered, was traumatized by directly seeing his parents dying. Thus, to cope with his PTSD he devoted himself to the point of insanity in protecting others. Conversely, the Joker is man who essentially dies and is reborn due to chemical exposure. The Joker lost his previous life and can never go back to being his original self. Yet he remembers his past, and the joys that he had in said previous life. Unfortunately, the Joker due to madness from PTSD and chemical exposure, constantly seeks joy, joy that comes at a cost to others. Excellent Villain analysis as always . This is bar none the best interpretation of the Joker for me. Hilarious, deranged, sympathetic, romantic, abusive and charismatic. The writers just really understood what made the character tick and how he compliments Batman.

Jason Todd is right about Joker. One might be able to redeem Dent or Nigma, but not him. The Joker being alive only guarantees more innocent deaths.

I would add Harley Quinn on the list too she's as equally as evil as Joker though maybe a little less also she's one of the most pure evil versions of the character

In the three jokers comic line gives more context to the killing jokes origins of the joker as batman already discover jokers true identity 2 years after the incident of his origins were it was revealed that joker always abusive even with his wife and was already snapping due to his failure as a comedian. was so bad that his wife staged her death and escaped with he help of a cop, and that is same cop is the one that told joker that his wife and child died. She and jokers child are currently in Alaska living under new identities and nobody knows about them but batman who is hiding the truth for their safety.

Excellent analysis! I never thought of Batman as being on a similar crazy level as the Joker, but there are a lot of parallels with the shaping and development of their extreme personalities.
