im trying to rework my throw so this vid helps a lot. the pros just look so comfortable throwing and thats where i want to get to.

I just tried this style out this afternoon and I enjoyed it so much. I added about 3 strikes to all games. Now I just need to work on my spares.

I'm a fairly new bowler, (about 6 months). I also play ice hockey. Not sure how it happened, but I ended up messing up my wrist so bad that I couldn't even hang onto the ball anymore. I was ready to quit, but decided to try two handed after watching a show with Jason Belmonte. It felt a little strange at first, but I have gotten used to it and am quite comfortable throwing this way. On top of that, I went from bowling 80 scores to 130, 150, 160, 180, my average kept creeping up. Last weekend, I bowled 3 games over 200. 213, 233 and 201. Not great, but a huge improvement. Now that my wrist is better, I had someone at the alley one night telling me I was doing it wrong. So, on his advice, I went back to one handed. I was terrible, back to my 80 to 90 games, and my wrist started hurting again. I am a 2 handed bowler now and thats how I will stay. Hoping I can keep improving my game. :-)

BTW, I find myself being watched by people in other lanes now as I bowl, and I can see some of them starting to copy what I do. It would seem that 2 handed bowling will spread as more of us show up on the lanes and people can see there is another way of doing it.

Noah Themins You'll always have people with a conservative mindset that won't accept a two-handed style out of principal. With Jason's succes it will surely become more mainstream and techniques will be developed. What keeps me from trying is the relatively high frequency of back problems among two-handers.

Interesting. My back is good so far, but bowling isn't all I do either, Over the years of martial arts, ice hockey and strength training, I've kept myself in good shape and I think I protect my back pretty well, I have never injured it, I am 43 now.

Some advice that it sounds like you've already figured out. Don't change styles because someone says it's wrong or you are better the other way. If you love bowling two handed, stay that way.

There are quite a few keypoints in 2-handed bowling. Only very few of them are shown here. Both of these superstars started bowling at the age of 2, on opposite sides of the world, yet they came up with somewhat similar style. This technique have not been researched a lot but these guys are an evident proof that there is something in this style and I believe it is here to stay!!!

This is an awesome video as it shows the key elements of the two handed style in a way that its easy to understand.

The pace of the footwork is EXTREMELY misleading. You do want to accelerate your steps during the skip step but you NEED your footwork throughout the whole approach to be smooth. Also, the shape of the backswing should be smooth as well. You shouldn't push out, pause, then let the ball fall into the backswing. I don't know if the latter is a common problem but it's something I've done out of habit and I'm trying to fix currently.

Great video man. Seen it multiple times to help with my two handed bowling. I been wanting to switch to two hand bowling since I have weak thumbs and recently damage my thumb playing basketball. So think its about time I fully commit to it. Been doing it off in on now since I am in a league and one handed average around 185 while two handed just at 140 depending on if I got luck on my side that day lol. Overall tho still nervous to fully switch since don't want to eventually get frustrated with it. What do you recommend I should do to help improve my two hand bowling?

a bit late but two things. 1) A weak thumb should have nothing to do with keeping the ball on your thumb. It's more of a fit thing as far as not dropping the ball. 2) I'd say go for bowling two handed as long as you follow this guide. You definitely need to practice ONLY two-handed. A lot of factors are similar, but do change slightly between the styles. Getting them mixed up is extremely easy to do.

Dakota Huyghe I understand it shouldn't but the way it feels when bowling one handed its hard to explain. I never drop the ball its just when I bowl my thumb just doesn't stay firm since I injured it. I am bowling much better now two handed then I ever did one handed tho. In less then a year of me bowling two handed.

Yeah hurt it playing basketball and hasn't been the same since. Certain pressures on certain spots just cause it to hurt and just can't use it bowling anymore. Wanted to keep bowling so switch to two hand lol. But thanks for tips and so on. Much appreciate ^_^.

I prefer 2 handed over my prior 1 hand release due to the fact that, with the higher rev rate (I was still a 400-450 while 1h) I'm able to provide a slightly higher margin of error on many sports shots. And the reduced stress on my wrists and elbow are a pretty good perk as well.

Maybe Brian Valenta can be added in the future for analysis of the two handed style of bowling

I used it because its confortable and I can control it better than one hand throw (with thumb, cranker style). And yes, I switch because of Belmo. I was decent before and I'm at least two strike better now than my one hand average.

What pound ball are you using with two handed bowling?

Hmmm its a great analysis, but i dont think you are taking the hip opening up to the camera into the equation as you draw out the spine tilt. Only if the camera was facing perpendicularly from where the hips point the whole time, the red line you drew would make sense. From what Ive seen from watching him, its pretty much a steadily increasing speed of upper body bow from the start to the release, as the whole movement is a slow-fast transition, also.

I tried holding the ball like Osku does, and it just hurts the hell out of my wrist after just a few throws.

You should try throwing like Belmo. He has a lot more control over the ball without losing carry.

I took up two handed bowling because it is WAY MORE comfortable for me to hold the ball during the swing into the release.

The amount of ignorance in this post disturbs me. Maybe people switch to two handed because the enjoy the better pin carry? The greater margin for error on most patterns? Or maybe some people just find it more fun to do. I can bowl one handed just fine with plenty of power and rev rate. I'm just better two handed.

It's like two-handed forehand in men's tennis, so freakin girlie style !!! True bowler, real man with power play style will always prefer one-handed technique ( except some physiological abnormalities or serious injuries )

So people have to look manly to be the best... Yeah... Because having the best scores, huge revolution rate, huge speed, and being the best on the PBA tour means NOTHING unless you look manly. Please research the two handed style, you will see it will beat many people on many different patterns. You, on the other hand, play one handed, and probably on a house shot. House shots have about a five board room for error that can result in a strike. Professional patterns have about 2 boards that can be messed up and get a strike. I was in a different country and couldn't use my bowling balls, and the two handed style gave me about a 20 board hook on a HOUSE BALL. Tl;dr, Your comment makes no sense.

Oleg u are such a HATER!!! Why is that?? Envy, jealousy?? Is it a case of him doing something, that u in your wildest dreams will be totally incapable of?? Throw the ball whatever way u want, we all have the same objective, and that's to knock down the pins.... If Belmo wasn't so good, then most haters would be very much of the mindset of not being that fussed over the 2 handed technique..People hate change!

AndyC70 yup only the weak mined hate Because of jealousy they just make me laugh because there to ignorant to learn about the game!!!!!!

I was a 2 hander but I switched to 1 handed. Reason being you can't bowl with 2 hands in the long run, you put too much strain on your body. I bowled a high game with 2 handed and I felt so fatigue after.

I got the opposite actually, switched from one handed to two handed to relieve stress from my right arm to split it between both arms. Osku Palermaa switched to two handed due to a bicep injury, since it gives him less strain

The only people who bowl two handed are too weak to bowl one handed. Belmo has an excuse because he was like 4 years old when he started and it just came natural to him. You guys only do it so that you can have a high rev rate that you can't even control and because you think it looks cool.

silly0981 Your comment is partially true 2 handed bowlers do have a high rev rate. It's not weak if you can control the hook and score more power to you. If it's gonna make you money why not. Maybe your the weak one who can't beat a 2 handed bowler. Don't be jealous of ones success!!!!!! Oh by the way I'm a one handed bowler I support any style of bowling!!!!! Only the weak hate 2 handed bowlers!!!!!
