An unnecessarily ranty new(ish) player impressions of Guild Wars 2

Ойындар

Guild Wars 2 is a pretty good game, but I am a master at ranting so I managed to complain about the game anyway :))
I possess a truly inspiration set of skills, I know.
No, I don't have friends, thanks for asking.

I think the biggest gripe you are actually having with all those systems is that you are trying to minmax your way to "current content", but there is no such thing. There is just content. Average MMO players really need to take a step back and look at what they are doing to themselves. The reason why MMOs feel like Chore Simulators is because you are summoning those chores onto yourself.

I respectfully disagree. I think the biggest reason MMOs feel like Chore Simulator to a lot of people is because the different systems don't work parallel to each other but rather some gate others. For example, leveling. While I level I can do map exploration, fill hearts, do jumping puzzles, and at some point I can also do some dungeons. I can also do WvW but I will likely mostly run around because I'll be weaker than other, or I can do structured PvP which actually works parallel to other systems so that's great. So, what if I want to do fractals, or raids (not sure how the guild stuff work, never done them)? Am I in the wrong for trying to minmax my way to the content that I want to play? I'm sure when it comes to GW2 a lot of people would say that yes, I'm in the wrong, because I can have so much fun and access so much content while leveling that I should just enjoy the ride rather than try and skip to the end. But I'm not trying to skip to the end, I'm trying to skip to the beginning of what I want to play. Most of the time I don't care to do jumping puzzles, fill hearts or do map completion. Most of the time I want to log in and do some specific content, but most of the time I can't do that, unless I meet some prerequisites. Anyway, I was going to talk about how you kind of need hero points and at least some gold to get exotics to access some content, even though technically at max lvl you can already access it and some other stuff but this comment seems very long already. I'll just give you a silly example outside MMOs. Do you think it would be good game design to have to play 150 matches of a 2D fighting game against other players so you can unlock the single player campaign that plays as a third person action RPG? Would you say you're summoning a chore onto yourself because you decided to rush through the 2D fighting game PvP, which in this example you are not interested in?
