Sanchuniathon was a Phoenician author. His three works, originally written in the Phoenician language, survive only in partial paraphrase and a summary of a Greek translation by Philo of Byblos recorded by the Christian bishop Eusebius. These few fragments comprise the most extended literary source concerning Phoenician religion in either Greek or Latin: Phoenician sources, along with all of Phoenician literature, were lost with the parchment on which they were written.
All knowledge of Sanchuniathon and his work comes from the Praeparatio Evangelica of Eusebius (I. chs ix-x),[3] which contains some information about him, along with the only surviving excerpts from his writing, as summarized and quoted from his purported translator, Philo of Byblos.
Eusebius quotes neo-Platonist writer Porphyry as stating that Sanchuniathon of Berytus (Beirut) wrote the truest history because he obtained records from Hierombalus priest of Ieuo (Ancient Greek: Ἰευώ), that Sanchuniathon dedicated his history to Abibalus (Abibaal) king of Berytus, and that it was approved by the king and other investigators, the date of this writing being before the Trojan War (around 1200 BC) approaching close to the time of Moses, "when Semiramis was queen of the Assyrians." Thus Sanchuniathon is placed firmly in the mythic context of the pre-Homeric Greek Heroic Age, an antiquity from which no other Greek or Phoenician writings are known to have survived to the time of Philo.
Sanchuniathon claims to have based his work on "collections of secret writings of the Ammouneis discovered in the shrines", sacred lore deciphered from mystic inscriptions on the pillars which stood in the Phoenician temples, lore which exposed the truth-later covered up by allegories and myths-that the gods were originally human beings who came to be worshipped after their deaths and that the Phoenicians had taken what were originally names of their kings and applied them to elements of the cosmos (compare euhemerism), worshipping forces of nature and the sun, moon, and stars. Eusebius cites Sanchuniathon in his attempt to discredit pagan religion based on such foundations.
This rationalizing euhemeristic slant and the emphasis on Beirut, a city of great importance in the late classical period but apparently of little importance in ancient times, suggests that the work itself is not nearly as old as it claims to be. Some have suggested it was forged by Philo himself or assembled from various traditions and presented within an authenticating pseudepigraphical format to give the material a patina of believability. Philo may have translated genuine Phoenician works ascribed to an ancient writer known as Sanchuniathon but in fact written in more recent times. This judgment is echoed by the Encyclopædia Britannica Eleventh Edition, which described Sanchuniathon as "belong more to legend than to history."
Not all readers have taken such a critical view:
The Humour which prevail'd with several learned Men to reject Sanchoniatho as a counterfeit because they knew not what to make of him, his Lordship always blam'd. Philo Byblius, Porphyry, and Eusebius, who were better able to judge than any Moderns, never call in question his being genuine.
- Squier Payne, in a preface to Richard Cumberland's Sanchoniatho's Phoenician History (1720)
However that may be, much of what has been preserved in this writing, despite the euhemeristic interpretation given it, turned out to be supported by the Ugaritic mythological texts excavated at Ras Shamra (ancient Ugarit) in Syria since 1929; Otto Eissfeldt demonstrated in 1952 that it does incorporate genuine Phoenician elements that can now be related to the Ugaritic texts, some of which, as shown in extant versions of Sanchuniathon, remained unchanged since the second millennium BC. The modern consensus is that Philo's treatment of Sanchuniathon offered a Hellenistic view of Phoenician materials written between the time of Alexander the Great and the first century BC, if it was not a literary invention of Philo.

Aelohim: The Interior Elohim is the ray that emanates from Aelohim. Aelohim is the Omnimerciful, the Cosmic Common Eternal Father, the Abstract Absolute Space... Aelohim is the infinitude that sustains all. Elohim - which is that divinity which is three, namely: אל "El", אלה "Elah", אלהים "Elohim" - within the absolute is אלהים אין "Ain-Elohim" or "Aelohim", which means the trinity within the Abstract Absolute Space. "Ain-Elohim" is the Unmanifested Seity. From Aelohim emerges Elohim, which is the manifested deity. Elohim is a plural name, which means "gods and goddesses." Thus, behold Aelohim is the root of Elohim. This is useful in comprehending the sexuality explained in many myths of Gods with Goddesses, and as a foundation for the creation of the different stories in Greek, Hebrew, or any other mythology. בראשית בר אאלהים את השמים ואת הארץ - Genesis 1:1 "These Hebrew words are the first words of the Bible and can be translated as "Barashith Bar AElohim at Ha-Schamayim Ve-At Ha-Aretz" that is to say: "In the beginning the Son of AElohim was in the heavens and in the Earth." The first three words of the Bible "Barashith Bera Elohim" are usually translated as 'In the beginning God created'. The word "Bera" means creation and is written with three letters: Beth, Resh and Aleph; yet the word "Bar", which means Son in Aramaic, is written only with two letters: Beth, Resh. So, when we take the Aleph out from "Bera" and move it close to Elohim, then the sentence is spelled "Bar Aelohim" or "the Son of Aelohim". Thus, we read: "In the beginning the Son of AElohim was IN the Heavens and IN the Earth". This Son of AElohim - which is the uncreated light - is Christ, as we explained here. It is equal to the Greek trinity: Uranus-Heaven, Gaia-Earth, and Eros-Love, Light. Thus, Eros, or Christ, as power, is intelligence within the Abstract Absolute Space, in the seventh dimension. That is why the book of Genesis states that Elohim- the outcome of the uncreated light - saw that "Eros", the created light, was good. That light is Christ, the Ain Soph Aur."

Yes the creation story by Sanchuniathon probably influenced Genesis, unless it was a later embellishment, however the oldest version is no doubt unrecorded. An even older Genesis is the Sumerian creation story. It is apparent that the ancients personified everything as God/s in order to explain the world's existence. They had no concept of science so they viewed god as everything and every thing it's own god as part of the whole god. The Sea is Yam, the Sun is Utu, the Andmoi are the winds, Nyx is the night, the Eye of Ra is the force of Ra, ...etc. Together they are one god. The move towards Trinitarian gods and Monotheism can be attributed to the development of science and the ancients discovering that not everything is a god, so there must be fewer or only one god, and so the religious wars to determine who the one true God commences. At a certain point however, the world leaders would have discovered there is no God and they became naturalists and opted to use Religion to keep the populace from gaining knowledge and power. We can see they already started with Genesis by condemning the pursuit of knowledge in the Garden of Eden.

So how do you prevent people from taking Jesus’s practical advice? You kick him upstairs. They made him a God to be worshipped, not a role-model to actually emulate. The Roman elite handled it perfectly, and that pro-creditor / anti-debtor system has taken over the entire world. *I said “fell” because those extremely wealthy Roman elites that crashed the empire never lost any power or wealth, they simply transformed into other centers of power.

Jesus and many other spiritual teachers taught about personal awakening, self transcendence, were critical of the wealthy and usury, promoted debt forgiveness and the lifting-up of the common man. But Rome was always extremely pro-creditor. Rome “fell” because of the wealthy rent-seeking elite devoured ever more land and resources, exploiting debtors and skyrocketing inequality until the entire empire collapsed. So how do you handle someone like that? You kick him upstairs. They made him into a god to be worshipped, not role-model to be emulated. The Roman Elite handled it perfectly and to this day have kept people entranced in the debt-trap while almost any self or social transcendence is funneled into pacifying endeavors that don’t threaten the legacy economic system. *I say “fell” because those extremely wealthy Roman elite didn’t fall, they simply moved on to dominate other centers of power - Byzantium, Holy Roman Empire, and eventually the central banking system we have today.

Interestingly enough, the cosmic egg cosmology has been prevalent in the ancient past. Many peoples, including the ancient Chinese, believed that everything came from an explosion. The idea that humans came from fish goes further back to the times of Anaximander. To hear a much more archaic form of this tale is astonishing. The ancient philosophers and scientists had made similar observations of our universe.

This past week I watched a video on secret teachings by Elaine Pagels, she was on point. Looking forward to searching her out some more. The Hebrew form of the Canaanite alphabet was conceived as 'seraphim': tongues/serpents of fire. The success of this writing system put the writing on the wall for Belshazzar, for the Cuneiform writing system, and for the Akkadian language as lingua franca/ language of commerce.

  • @harveywabbit9541

@@differous01 . Belshazzar {Fire-prince = the Sun) made a great feast - that of the Passover. The golden vessels (the Sun, Moon and summer constellations) were brought in, i.e., came to the spring equinox, and the king and his princes, his wives and concubines " drank in them," not out of, or from them (it was the time of the latter rain). They also drank wine (four cups, - see Bib. Dict., Art. Pass.), and praised the Gods of gold and of silver, of brass, etc. Of course; for, being in their cups, they were in a condition to praise or blame anything. However, while drinking and praising Gods worthy of praise, there suddenly "came fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the wall of the king's palace; and the king saw the part, of the hand that wrote ". Now let us look at this riddle a little. The name of the Hebrew letter answering to our J, is yod = hand in English. This letter J, being the initial of the Hebrew Jahveh, or Lord = spring, was used as its abbreviation. It was the hand of the Lord, then, or the beginning of spring, that wrote upon the wall of the king's palace. The ancient spring, as I have often indicated, contained four months. The hand has four lingers, the thumb being folded within it out of sight, as is often represented in Christian iconography. The hand was also often indicated by a circle containing three commas and the sacred Tau, thus, the spring, therefore, then at hand, was symbolized by the jod, or hand, which has four fingers, as the spring had four months.

I've been coming across a lot of influence across stories. One thing that had been on my mind was the seal of God vs mark of the beast in Revelation. I'd found many verses from Revelation to be found in the Bhagavad Gita. Then I came across the story of Krishna's kingdom (God's kingdom on earth) Dwarka (I think that's what it's called) and how one had to have a "seal" to enter his kingdom. The seal is the tilaka, the long U shape that Krishna devotees wear on their foreheads. It's purpose is to remind one that they are a spark of divine light in a physical body, versus a beast that is an animal without higher conciousness.

@Mariah CB no you dont understand what you are saying. you are saying the existence of zeus and hermes and all these other greek “gods” means christianity is polytheistic but they aren’t “gods” the bible talks about them and mentions them as false gods. the nephilim. if you go into zeus’ parents they are The Titans (giant’s hundreds of feet tall) and who are their parents the primordial beings. (abstract being without full forms). but if you go to scripture God had a series of watcher angels that abandoned their post and started calling themselves gods to the humans and giving them technology and advancing their society. (i should also mention these watcher angels often appeared as human but it wasnt their full form) then they mated with human women creating the first generation of nephilim. God refers to the nephillim as “the men of old the men of reknown”. these nephilim also represent the defiling of Gods creation also how easily humans can be manipulated and humans were entirely corrupt. this is why God created the flood. because catholic churches decided what was canon and what wasnt (because they tried to destory faith theres only one reason the opposition would attack the other is if you believe its truth and their followers need to be corrupted) there are actually non biblically canon texts that refer to how the humans “gods” told humanity “the God of Abraham and isaac is about to fuck you guys up so we gotta go”.

What happened between Israel and Rome and the Creator stepping in to time makes the most sense of all these worldviews and ties them all together. Ex. Why there are so many flooding account and so many localized floods are known world wide. These things occur without notice like Jesus said regarding "the days of Noah" Something major happened since the Younger Dryas. The Jews gave us the best accounts according to their traditions and were like Darwin's Finches of God or Nature in producing the blue-ribbon Jew aka Messiah by following a code/directions or unlocks the Masiach hack in our reality. The Writing is on the Wall people just can't see it or they dismiss it like Magic Eye games. They have eyes but don't see it. Or maybe they can see it but both don't see the larger part Itself. You gotta have eyes for both God and Nature's testimony. You can bitch about Israelite and misinterpret the deeds of their actions and act appaled about it but then not shed a tear over macrophages destroying bacteria or get choked up over the struggles or preservation of favored/intended races or species. Yeah but they're humans...yeah...and Who told us he we were naked? This is all produced. Jesus and what were lucky enough to still have makes the most sense of all things and gives the most purpose. If Jesus isn't King, then nobody is worthy and all is in vain and purposeless. If we're both serving the Great No-Thing then why you holding back praise and worship and being uncool and derailing It's work. Life is precious. Light is special and y'all are busy holding out and making the worst of It.

Interesting. I had no idea the "sacrificing your only begotten son on the altar" had precedent as a Phoenician story! I've read that it's possible "Moloch" was not actually a specific individual god, but a TYPE OF SACRIFICE (blood sacrifice of a living thing, especially a human child, even better if your own firstborn son, done with fire) and it's possible that Moloch sacrifices were performed for all kinds of gods, including YHWH. Some would consider it a desecration of their god to find out someone performed a Moloch sacrifice to that god. The story of Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac could be an attempt to distinguish Abraham's version of YHWH from other people's he knew. People today read that story out of historical context and do not grasp that Abraham likely knew of other people who had performed Moloch sacrifices. It was normalized. Abraham not going through with it, and YHWH providing a ram instead, could be a way of prohibiting Moloch sacrifices among his descendants. Or, I guess it was written by Moses instead of Abraham. So Moses was attempting to prevent Moloch sacrifice to YHWH in future generations, and he would have known about Moloch and other rituals/gods due to his growing up in the house of the Pharaoh.
